1. Funeral of former President Pranab Mukherjee to be held today
The last rites of former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee is set to be conducted on Tuesday and his body will be laid in state at his official residence here in the national capital to enable people to pay their last homage. According to a note issued by the Ministry of Defence, the wreath-laying schedule for official dignitaries will be from 9:15 am to 10:15 am for official dignitaries and 45 minutes for other dignitaries.
2. Ex-Prez Pranab Mukherjee's demise: All West Bengal govt offices closed today
The government of West Bengal will keep all the government and government-aided offices and institutions closed on Tuesday as a mark of respect to former President Pranab Mukherjee, who passed away earlier today. Former President Pranab Mukherjee passed away on Monday at the Army Hospital (Research and Referral) Hospital where he was admitted earlier this month and had undergone surgery for removal of a clot in his brain.
3. Bombay HC to hear plea regarding postponement of JEE half an hour before exam
As the examination of JEE Mains is scheduled to start at 9 am on Tuesday, the Bombay High Court has posted to hear the plea regarding the postponement of the exam at 8:30 am. The HC, on its own motion, took up the matter for hearing on Monday evening when it was brought to its notice a letter sent by Nitesh Bawankar, a resident of Bhandara.
4. JEE (Main) exams to be held today
Despite widespread opposition from students, activists and the governments of several non-BJP ruled states, JEE (Main) and NEET (UG) exams for admission to IITs and medical courses will be held starting today. The exams - JEE is from September 1 to 6 and NEET on September 13 - were cleared by the Supreme Court last month, after it rejected a petition from 11 students to defer them - and will be conducted with strict restrictions on social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic.
