1.Yogi Adityanath to visit Ayodhya today

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will visit Ayodhya today to review security arrangements ahead of Bhumi Pujan of Ram Mandir. This will be his second visit to Ayodhya to take stock of the grand preparations.

2. MoS V Muraleedharan to fast today seeking Kerala CM's resignation

Minister of state for external affairs V Muraleedharan to observe a day-long fast today seeking the resignation of Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The fast is part of the agitation launched by the party in the wake of the alleged involvement of the CM's office in the gold smuggling case. Muraleedharan will observe the fast at his residence in New Delhi.

3. Friendship Day to be observed today across the nation

Friendship day will be celebrated today across the country to cherish the bond of friendship. It was first proposed to be marked on July 30, 1958, in Paraguay. Then, almost five decades later, the United Nations General Assembly on April 27, 2011, declared July 30 as International Friendship Day. Friendship Day is marked on varied dates in different countries. In India, the day is observed on the first Sunday of August.

4. On Raksha Bandhan eve, no Sunday lockdown for sweet shops in Punjab

Agreeing to demand of Punjab Halwai Association, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has allowed sweet shops across the state to open today, a day before Raksha Bandhan which falls on August 3. The association had earlier given this demand to respective DCs and the question was raised during CM’s #AskCaptain initiative. Singh in the statement said that the shops are not permitted to open on account of a lockdown on Sundays in the state. But the government received several requests that sweet shops be allowed to open on the eve of Raksha Bandhan. He said that the social distancing and other norms should be followed by the shop owners as well as people on August 2 and 3.

5. IPL Governing Council meeting today to finalise fixtures, SOPs

The all-important Governing Council meeting of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to take place today to finalise fixtures and SOPs. All the eight franchises are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the meeting as they look to move into the final stages of preparations for the league to be played in the UAE this time around due to COVID-19 pandemic. The meeting will be chaired by chairman Brijesh Patel and also feature BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.
