1. PM Modi to address grand finale of Smart India Hackathon 2020 today
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with the finalists of Smart India Hackathon today. The PM will address the grand finale of the hackathon on Saturday via video conferencing from 4.30 pm onwards. Smart India Hackathon is a nationwide initiative to provide students with a platform to solve some of the pressing problems of daily lives, and thus inculcate a culture of product innovation and a mindset of problem-solving.
2. Eid al-Adha to be celebrated today
Eid al-Adha (Eid-ul-Adha), also known as Bakrid (Bakra Eid) in India, will be observed today. Also referred to as the festival of sacrifice, the Eid al-Adha is observed on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the twelfth and last month of the Islamic calendar. This festival is one of the two most important festivals of the Muslim community. The significance of this festival is associated with Ibrahim and his son Ismael and their devotion to Allah.
3. BMC allows religious sacrifice of buffaloes each day at Mumbai's Deonar Abattoir from Aug 1-3 on Eid
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued fresh directions permitting the religious sacrifice of 150 buffaloes each day from August 1 to 3 for Eid-ul-Adha between 6 am to 6 pm at the Deonar abattoir in Mumbai. Several restrictions were earlier imposed in view of the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown.
