Important national events to look for today

Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan takes shape with the auction process of 41 coal mines, for commercial mining, slated to begin today. Meanwhile, major-general ranked officers of India and China are expected to continue meeting at Patrol Point 14 to resolve issues. 1. Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan: Govt to begin auction process of 41 coal mines today

In line with the Prime Minister's self-reliance call, the coal ministry will launch the auction process of 41 blocks for commercial mining with an aim to achieve self-sufficiency in meeting energy needs and boost industrial development. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the launch event through video conferencing and outline his vision to achieve self-reliance in the mining sector.

2. India-China border meeting likely to continue at Patrol Point 14

In the aftermath of Galwan valley clash, major-general ranked officers of both nations are expected to continue meeting at Patrol Point 14 (PP 14) to resolve issues which led to the standoff. Dismissing a report that the military level talks have been called off, a military source told ETV Bharat, “Nothing could be resolved but the positive part is that they have agreed that more talks are needed and they have agreed to meet again. So more meetings at various military levels will continue.”

4. Babri Masjid Trial: BJP veteran leaders on list of accused appearing in Court today

BJP leader Uma Bharti is among the accused asked to appear in person today before a special court hearing the Babri Masjid demolition case. The lawyers for BJP veterans L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Kalyan Singh indicated to the CBI court on Wednesday that they prefer to appear in court through video conferencing.

5. SC to hear a plea seeking direction to the Central government to drag China to ICJ for spreading COVID-19

The Supreme Court is likely to hear a plea today seeking direction to the Centre to approach the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and file a case for compensation of USD 600 billion from China alleging that the coronavirus pandemic was 'deliberately created' by it. The petition was filed by Madurai resident K K Ramesh through Advocate Jaya Sukin.

6. SC to hear Centre's plea on payment of AGR dues by telecos

The Supreme Court will hear a plea by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for staggered payment of adjusted gross revenues (AGR) dues by telecom companies. Earlier this week, the government had approached the apex court seeking approval for a formula allowing telecom service providers to make annual installments of unpaid or remaining AGR dues in next 20 years or more.

7. SC to hear PIL on job loss, wage cuts in media

The Supreme Court is likely to hear a plea by journalist's bodies alleging that employees including journalists have been meted out "inhuman and illegal treatment” by some media organizations which have been issuing termination notices, effecting wage cuts and asking them to proceed on unpaid leaves during the coronavirus lockdown.
