New Delhi: In crimes against women, government statistics show that despite all the safety measures taken, there is no decrease in a number of rape cases across India.
Annie Raja, General Secretary of the National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) in an exclusive interview with ETV Bharat said that the government has no political will and social commitment to see that the existing law is being strongly implemented.
She further added that the country has enough number of laws to prevent the crime but when it comes to implementation of those laws, the government simply fails there.
According to the sources, 994 cases of rape were registered in Andhra Pradesh in 2016, 988 cases in 2017 and 971 cases were registered in 2018. Similarly, Assam has registered 1779 rape cases in 2016, 1772 in 2017 and 1648 in 2018.

On the other hand, West Bengal registered 1110 rape cases in 2016, 1084 cases in 2017 whereas the national capital Delhi registered 2155 rape cases in 2016, 1229 cases in 2017 and as many as 1215 rape cases were registered in 2018.
Madhya Pradesh registered 4882 rape cases in 2016, 5562 cases in 2017 and 5433 cases in 2028.
However, in Maharastra sexual crimes against women have shown a little decline in comparison to the previous years. In 2016 4189 cases were registered in Maharastra whereas 1933 in 2017 and 2142 in 2018.
Annie Raja allegedly accused that politicians across the country are using"rape incidents" for their vote bank politics, it appears as if they are not just concerned about it.
"The Home Ministry has taken several steps to spread awareness amongst the citizens, sensitization of police officers at various levels, issuance of advisories for compulsory registrations of FIRs," a government report said.

The government so far has set up a total of 1023 Fast Track Special Courts (FTSCs) inclusive of 389 POCSO courts across India for expeditious trial and disposal of pending cases pertaining to rape and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, in a time-bound manner.
Emergency Response Support System has also been set up which provides a single internationally recognised number (112) based system for all, with the computer-aided dispatch of field resources to the location of distress. Moreover, a cybercrime reporting portal for citizens to report obscene content has also been launched.

"The latest incidents of Gargi College in Delhi is a glaring example of how in the presence of police officials, miscreants can do whatever they want to. Women will not stay back at home, the govt needs to take some serious actions now" she added.
