IMD issues yellow alert in Hyderabad

Calling the next twelve hours 'critical', the Indian Meteorological Department issued yellow alert in Hyderabad. The State government also declared holidays on October 14 and 15 and cautioned the public against travelling.

Hyderabad: Calling the next 12 hours critical for Hyderabad, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) informed the depression over western parts of Telangana will move west northwestwards and gradually weaken into a well-marked, low-pressure area in the next 12 hours.

The (IMD) has issued a yellow alert in Hyderabad as a response to the observations.

As per the directions of the Chief Minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao, the flood situation in the state was reviewed by Chief Secretary, Somesh Kumar.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and district collectors were advised to arrange relief camps and shift the people residing in low-lying and inundated areas. The district administrations cautioned people against going out.

Fourteen people were killed in Telangana, especially in Hyderabad. Highest rainfall, over 20 cm, was recorded in parts of Hyderabad over the past 24 hours. Floodgates of the Himayat Sagar dam were opened by the GHMC authorities. The previous record of the highest rainfall in Hyderabad was 98.3 mm on October 10, 2013.
