New Delhi: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Wednesday has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking for central cadre system for doctors.
In a letter written to PM Modi, IMA said that there is a sense of helplessness with divergent directions in different states.
"One Nation One Guideline has been our voice. IMA looks upto the government to accept our demand for Indian Medical Service," the IMA said in its letter.
It also stated that All India Medical Service is living for the safety and health of the people.
"If federalism was chosen to give vent to the legitimate aspirations of our people, a strong Union was also put in place. The need for a central cadre is felt acutely especially by the doctors," the IMA said.
It said that the medical profession deserves to handle medical institutions and the streams considering the uniqueness and complexities involved.
"It is with this great anticipation IMA looks upto the government to accept the legitimate demand for the Indian Medical Service (IMS). Apart from giving doctors their well deserved role and responsibility in action building, it will be the appropriate answer to the current situation and a huge leap into the future," said the IMA.
The IMA has also submitted a report in support of their demand for Indian Medical Service to health secretary Preeti Sudan.
The report was prepared by a national working group of IMA.
