New Delhi: Slamming the BJP for targeting Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on his decision to contest from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, senior spokesperson of Congress, Manish Tewari, on Monday said that if Narendra Modi loves South India he can also contest from there.
The BJP has alleged that the Congress chief was looking for a safe seat, therefore, he chose to contest from Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency besides Amethi.
Addressing the media in Delhi former Union Minister Manish Tewari said, "If Narendra Modi loves South India, he is free to contest from there...No one is stopping him."
The ruling party has also ridiculed Rahul Gandhi by saying that the Congress chief is planning to win in Wayanad with the help of Muslim votes.
Hitting back at the BJP, Tewari said, "This is a dirty politics. Congress has never divided the country on the basis of castes or religion."
"Congress never talked about Hindu terror. It's BJP, who has divided the country on the basis of religion," he added.
Congress claimed that Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka want Rahul Gandhi to contest from South India. Therefore, keeping their emotions in mind the party chief decided to contest from Wayanad.
Congress had won eight Lok Sabha seats in Kerala in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, besides two by its ally Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and one by Kerala Congress (Mani) and one by Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP).
The party is hoping to further consolidate its position this time in the state.
