Home Secretary tells states to enforce Covid-19 protocol

With the country witnessing a spike in Covid-19 cases, Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Thursday asked all states and UTs to ensure strict implementation of Covid19 protocol in a bid to contain the pandemic. The latest data shows Kerala, Maharastra, Delhi, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh account for 61 percent of the new Covid19 cases.

New Delhi: Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Thursday asked all states and UTs to ensure strict implementation of Covid19 protocol in a bid to contain the spike of this pandemic.

Secretary Bhalla had a video conference with the Chief Secretaries of all states and UTs, a day after Home Ministry issued fresh guidelines empowering states and UTs to impose local restrictions including night curfew.

It may be mentioned here that the guidelines which were drafted after wide consultation with the health experts and law enforcing agencies will come into force from December 1 to 31.

Sources said that Bhalla during his meeting with the state representatives has asked them to take strict actions against anybody violating the guidelines.

States like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab have already imposed night curfew.

"It's time to restrict ourselves so that we can get success over Corona. We have seen that the recent festive season has already marked a huge spike in Covid19 cases. It's time to contain them," sources said quoting Bhalla.

Meanwhile, the latest health ministry data shows that six states including Kerala, Maharastra, Delhi, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh account for 61 percent of the new Covid19 cases.

India registered 44,489 new confirmed Covid cases in last-24 hours.

Data shows that Kerala leads the tally with 6491 new Covid cases. Maharastra has reported 6159 new cases, while Delhi registered another 5246 new cases in the last 24 hours.

As per the statistics, 60.50 percent of the 524 case fatalities reported in the past 24 hours from across India are concentrated in six states including Delhi, Maharastra, West Bengal, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.

Delhi reported 99 deaths followed by Maharastra (65), West Bengal (51), Haryana (42), Punjab (31) and Uttar Pradesh (29).
