Home Ministry asks states to contain spread of COVID-19 in prisons

As the coronavirus continues to creep across the country, the Union Home Ministry (MHA) directed chief secretaries of States and UTs to take effective measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 in prisons and correctional homes.

New Delhi: In a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19, the Union Home Ministry (MHA) on Sunday directed chief secretaries of States and UTs to take effective measures in prisons and correctional homes.

Aware of the fact that many policemen are getting affected by COVID-19, the MHA has also asked chief secretaries and DGs to prepare the second line of defence.

Highlighting guidelines and protocols on COVID-19 for police personnel managing public, the MHA has asked the head of police forces to consider the option of 'Work from Home' for personnel not deployed on frontline duty.

The MHA, in a message, has also asked the state authorities to collect the information of detained people about their travel history, cough, fever symptoms or recent contact with a positive case.

Meanwhile, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh on Sunday congratulated Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on its 26th foundation day.

"I extend my greetings to 14,000 strong team of DMRC. With 264 stations over a network of 360 km Delhi Metro is rightly considered to be the lifeline of Delhi and the most preferred mode of urban transport by the people," said Puri.

Dr Durga Shankar Mishra, Secretary in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs also informed that his ministry is developing metro lite and metro neo to serve lower density urban areas.
