Highway curbs is hampering Kashmiri tourism: Farooq Abdullah

The government has restricted civilian traffic on Amarnath route in Jammu and Kashmir. The restrictions included shutting a 97-km-stretch of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway and halting a train on the Banihal-Srinagar stretch for five hours.

New Delhi: In a recent move, the government has restricted civilian traffic on Amarnath route in Jammu and Kashmir.

The restrictions done by the government included shutting a 97-km-stretch of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway for civilian traffic for a few hours every day, and halting a train on the Banihal-Srinagar stretch for five hours.

Farooq Abdullah, Jammu & Kashmir National Conference president, spoke on government's restriction on the use of Jammu-Srinagar highway by civilians during Amarnath Yatra.

He said, "There was no need to shut down the national highway. It will affect locals and tourism. Now they have closed it for 2 hours. It should have been done for even 2 years. It's a matter of religion; no one can attack religion."

Isse kya hota hai ki friction paida hota hai." He added, "Now they have closed it for 2 hours. It should have been done for even 2 years. It's the matter of religion; no one can attack on religion."
