High alert in Delhi, UP and J&K after terror threat inputs on I-Day

A day before the 74th Independence Day, security alert has been sounded by intelligence agencies in New Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh following inputs of possible terror attacks. Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh-Nepal border has been sealed and vigil has been stepped in districts bordering Nepal.

New Delhi: A day before the 74th Independence Day, security alert has been sounded by intelligence agencies in New Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh following inputs of possible terror attacks.

According to an input sent by Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), Pakistan-sponsored terror module in Afghanistan infiltrated in small batches in India and they will try and target Independence Day celebrations in the country on Saturday.

The R&AW advisory said that around 20-25 Taliban members were being trained to undertake an attack in India and they might have infiltrated through LoC and India-Nepal border.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh-Nepal border has been sealed and vigil has been stepped in districts bordering Nepal.

In Delhi, security in and around Red Fort has been intensified and Delhi police have made multilayered security arrangements in coordination with NSG, SPG and ITBP.

Another alert by the Intelligence Bureau said that Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) have planned vehicle-borne terror attacks at various locations in Jammu and Kashmir.

Notably, the Bureau of Civil Aviation (BCAS) had already sounded a security alert for all civil aviation installations like airports, airstrips, airfields and helipads.

The entry of visitors to the airports and sale of visitors entry tickets has been banned till August 25.

The Delhi International Airport Ltd on Friday issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) and said that unscheduled transit flights will not be allowed to land at the Delhi airport for four hours in the morning and three hours in the evening on Independence Day.

According to a NOTAM, transit flights cannot land at Delhi airport between 6 AM and 10 AM as well as between 4 PM and 7 PM on August 15.
