Body of man found as police search for missing family

The remains of Ram Avatar was found in a pit covered with straw in Kesarpur village, police said. The search is on to find his wife and three children.

Pilibhit: The body of a man has been found in his house and four members of his family are missing, according to police in Uttar Pradesh.

The remains of Ram Avatar was found in a pit covered with straw in Kesarpur village, police said. The search is on to find his wife and three children.

The brother-in-law of Avatar and his wife have been detained on suspicion of involvement in the case.

A missing person complaint was filed by Avtar's brother Malkhan Singh at Madhotanda police station on Tuesday.

In his complaint, he said that his brother, his wife Rekha Devi and their three sons, aged sixteen, thirteen and six years, had gone missing from their home.Additional Superintendent of Police, Pavitra Mohan Tripathi and Circle officer Puranpur, Uttam Singh, have deployed police teams to track the family.

Superintendent of Police, Jai Prakash Yadav said the circumstances in which the family had gone missing hinted towards a conspiracy. He said that the police were carrying out a search for the family in nearby agricultural fields, villages and dense shrubs along the banks of a canal of the Sharda river.

Police said a mobile phone used by one of the missing persons was traced to Delhi but its user has not been found yet, according to police.
