Group of 12 children care for trees planted by forest dept

Not so long ago, the State forest department planted trees on the sidewalks at Basaveshwara Nagar in Haveri. But soon the saplings started to wilt in the absence of care. Thankfully, the group of children stepped forward to water the plants regularly.

Haveri(Karnataka): People across the world observes world environment day on June 5 every year. Seeds are sown and trees are planted on the day, but most people tend to forget about the day soon. But here is a group of 12 children from Haveri in Karnataka for whom planting trees and nurturing them have become a part of their lives.

Not so long ago, the State forest department planted trees on the sidewalks at Basaveshwara Nagar in Haveri. But soon the saplings started to wilt in the absence of care. Thankfully, the group of kids stepped forward to water the plants regularly.

Popular environmental activist Mahantesh guided the children to nourish the trees. As per his directions, they have been taking care of the trees. They have assigned trees among themselves and each of them is responsible for caring for their trees.

The trees which are cared for by the children include fruit-earing trees like Java Plum and River tamarind, Pongamia oil tree, and others.
