Govt ropes in NE agency to monitor development projects using satellite

The government has roped in an agency of the Department of Space to monitor development projects in the north-east through satellite. Union minister Jitendra Singh also revealed that India's first bamboo industrial park will be set up at Manderdisa in Dima Hasao district of Assam.

New Delhi: Constant satellite monitoring on different developmental projects has helped the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) to complete 66 projects worth Rs 820.77 crore in last 100 days in the northeastern states, Union minister Jitendra Singh said on Thursday.

"We have achieved our milestone as far as completing different developmental projects are concerned in the northeast region. We are using North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC) to get the satellite images of different developmental projects," said DoNER Minister Dr Jitendra Singh.

The NESAC is a regional space centre established under a joint initiative of the Department of Space and the North Eastern Council.

Talking to media, Dr Singh said that 110 projects costing Rs 1699.69 crore were sanctioned in the last 100 days.
"6 projects costing Rs 39.95 crore were operationalised in the northeast region," told Dr Singh.

He said that NESAC located in Meghalaya's Shillong has been helping in providing the satellite images.

"Because of these satellite images we know which project is at what stage and we take action accordingly," the minister said.

He said that earlier no projects were completed on time.

Talking about the 100 days achievement of his ministry, Dr Singh said that India's first bamboo industrial park will be set up at Manderdisa in Dima Hasao district of Assam. The project costs Rs 50 crore and it will be established in an area of 75 hectares.

The minister also complimented the governments in the north-eastern states for their cooperation in implementing the projects.

He said that NESAC located in Shillong in Meghalaya has been helping is by providing satellite images.

"Because of these satellite images we know which projects are at what stage...we can taken the action accordingly," the minister said.
