Goa: Farmers hit by floods get compensation cheques

The recent floods and rains in Goa have caused a lot of damage to crops and property in Goa. Compensation cheques to farmers to tide over the crisis has been given before Ganesh Chaturthi festival.

Panaji (Goa): Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant distributed compensation to the farmers who had lost their crops in the recent floods that hit the state today.

The compensation was distributed to the farmers whose crop got destroyed in recent floods and rains.


The chief minister distributed cheques to agriculturists hailing from Pernem, Bicholim and Bardez talukas in North Goa, which were worst-hit.

"Recent floods and rains have caused a lot of damage to crops as well as property in the state. Therefore, as promised, we have handed out compensation to farmers before Ganesh Chaturthi festival (beginning September 2), "the chief minister said.

As per the Agriculture department's estimates, more than 500 farmers were affected by floods.

Earlier this month, heavy rains, accompanied by winds have caused a flood-like situation in some low-lying parts of Goa.
The Mandovi river was flowing above the danger mark in many areas, flooding villages on its bank.

got destroyed in recent floods and rains.
         The chief minister distributed cheques to
agriculturists hailing from Pernem, Bicholim and Bardez
talukas in North Goa, which were worst-hit.
         "Recent floods and rains have caused a lot of damage
to crops as well as property in the state. Therefore, as
promised, we have handed out compensation to farmers before
Ganesh Chaturthi festival (beginning September 2)," said the
chief minister.
         As per Agriculture department's estimates, more than
