Purnea: At least four people of a family were severely injured in an LPG cylinder blast in Purnea district on Saturday morning. The incident took place in Dagruha block of Dubba village, triggering panic in the area.
"Four people are severely injured which includes two women, one man and a child," a police official said.
"The blast happened when the injured man, Md. Aleem, entered the kitchen and lit the stove to prepare tea. As gas was leaking from the connecting pipe, fire engulfed the kitchen causing severe burn injuries to him," the cops said.
Hearing shouts for help, his family members rushed in and their clothes also caught fire. Aleem's seven-year-old Sadik, his sister Parveen and his wife Sazia tried to douse the flames but their clothes caught fire and they sustained severe injuries.
"All the people were taken to Sadar Hospital in Purnea for immediate medical attention and condition of two people is critical," said cops.
Panic has gripped the village and the incident has raised eyebrows over the handling of the LPG cylinder gas by the administration. Primary investigation suggests that the gas was already leaking in the kitchen which led to a massive mishap.
On July 20, six people, including five children and a woman were killed in a LPG cylinder blast in Purnea district. The victims were rushed to the Sadar hospital by local residents for treatment but they died of severe injuries.
