Food, water, medicine provided free of cost to migrants: Centre to SC

The Centre told the Supreme Court that it supplied water, food, transports and medicine to the migrant workers who were found on roads while travelling back to their home. The bench observed that it would give 15 day time to the Centre and the state governments for sending to native places the all desirous migrant workers.

New Delhi: The centre informed the Supreme Court through its affidavit on migrants issue that the migrants have been provided with free food, water, medicines, clothes, slippers etc for free of cost.

It added on saying that National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) helped in transporting the migrants who were found walking on roads, by providing them with transport to travel to the nearest railway stations.

Further it informed that 1.63 crore meals and more than 2.10 crores of packaged drinking water bottles apart from the services provided by the state governments, have been served to the migrants.

The affidavit is in response to suo moto congnizance matter of miseries and problems of migrants during the lockdown.

The top court had heard the centre, states and other parties of the case for more than two hours on Friday and reserved its order for pronouncement on 9th June.
