New Delhi: In a unique initiative to encourage fitness, Indian Railways has installed a new squat machine at Anand Vihar Railway Station, as a part of their re-development plan. Under this new motivation scheme, the commuters can avail free platform tickets by exercising just for a few minutes.
Railway ministry has allocated the projects regarding the revamping and redevelopment projects of railway stations to Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Limited (IRSDC) along with other Government agencies, for bringing them at par to the global standards.
IRSDC inaugurated new amenities at Anand Vihar Metro station to increase passenger satisfaction and experience at the railway station.
While speaking about the Squat Machine, IRSDC MD, SK Lohia said, "The Fit India Squat Machine has been installed to promote the initiative of GoI, Fit India Campaign. This is the first of its kind facility in India and we'll definitely take it to other railway stations as well."

A camera has been installed in the Squat Machine which will detect the number of squats done by the person. If he/she completes 30 squats within the time frame of 180 seconds and he/she will get a free platform ticket.
While tweeting about the Railway initiative, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said, "A unique experiment at Delhi's Anand Vihar Railway station to encourage fitness. Platform tickets can be availed free of charge by exercising in front of a machine here."
Apart from this initiative, IRSDC is also revamping other railway stations to provide the railway station with high standards of safety, comfort, user-friendly passenger amenities, value-added services and by adopting best technical practices.
The railway stations that are being given to IRSDC include Gandhinagar, Habibganj, Gomtinagar, Anand Vihar, Bijwasan and Chandigarh.

"We want to provide a complete range of passenger amenities at railway stations. We have a crucial role to play in 'Station Development' across the country and also we are equally inclined towards maximizing passenger satisfaction. Anand Vihar Terminal railway station is particular is a case study in itself," said Lohia.
While promoting startups in India, IRSDC also inaugurated 'Dava Dost' and 'The New Shop'. Lohia explained that the New Shop is a recognise innovative of Retail-Technology startup in India. On the other side, Dava Dost is a generic medicine shop which offers up to 80% discount to the medicines.
