New Delhi: Films actors have been gaining a foothold into the field of politics and in upcominggeneral elections, it has been witnessing the same trend. A good number of film actors have joined politics and their entry is a win-win situation for the individuals and political parties too, says senior journalist and political expert Shashidhar Pathak.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Pathak said that people like glamour and this is what attracts them towards the film actors who enter politics from the glamour world. Also, political parties benefit from the entry of cinestars into their parties.

Citing a example, Pathak mentioned about the 1984 incident, wherein Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna was contesting against Amitabh Bachhan for the Allahabad constituency and was badly defeated.

Off late, several cine stars have started their political innings, to name a few are Urmila Matondkar (Congress), Jaya Prada joined BJP, Nusrat Jahan (TMC), Mimi Chakraborty (TMC), Shilpa Shinde (Congress), Arshi Khan (Congress) and Sumalatha Ambareesh (Independent).

Pathak further added that people are much more attracted to female actors in politics. Having mentioned this, he said in a way, many female actors entering politics is a sign of women empowerment. This also sets a good example in politics.

In the last couple of days, several renowned female actors from Bollywood as well as Tollywood have entered the political fraternity, who will be directly contesting the upcoming elections.

Intro:New Delhi: Entry of actresses from silver screen into politics is a win-win situation for individual and political parties too.

Politics in India, especially ahead of the coming general election has been witnessing an increasing trend of film actress entering into the poll fray.


Body:In last couple of days several renowned actress from silver screen and small screen from bollywood and tollywood have entered into the politics and directly contesting elections. Interestingly, they are not getting any issues like others in getting Lok Sabha tickets. They neither need to stand in queue nor peruse for tickets.

Political expert feel that this trend is a win win situation for both the individual and political parties.

"It's already a trend in Indian politics. People want glamour and common masses gets attracted towards the glamour world...in other way the political parties also get benefit with the entry of cine stars," said senior journalist and political expert Shashidhar Pathak.

It's, however, a fact that cine stars can even create history in politics. In 1984 Superstar Amitabh Bachhan contested from Allahabad (present Prayagraj) against Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna and ruined his career. Bachhan won the seat from Allahabad by defeating Bahuguna by a margin of approximately 1,87,000 votes.

Of late, several cine stars have started their political innings that including Urmila Matondkar (Congress), Jaya Prada (joined BJP), Nusrat Jahan (TMC), Mimi Chakraborty (TMC), Shilpa Shinde (Congress), Arshi Khan (Congress), Sumalatha Ambareesh (Independent).


Conclusion:In spite of the fact that there are still presence of male actors into politics, "People get much more attractions towards female actress."

"In other way entery of so many actress into the politics also promote women empowerment. In fact, they can also set examples in politics," said Parhak.
