Centre asking questions over foreign donations: Farmer union

Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ekta-Ugrahan), one of Punjab’s largest farmer organisations protesting against the recent farm laws, said it has been asked by a central agency to submit its registration details which allow it to receive foreign funds.

The BKU (Ekta-Ugrahan) president Joginder Ugrahan and its general secretary Sukhdev Singh revealed about the Union government’s demand alleging that the “Centre is using all tactics as their sole purpose is to defeat the ongoing agitation”.

The Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) stipulates mandatory registration of any outfit receiving foreign fund.

“A department under the Centre has sent an email which we received through our bank’s branch in Punjab. In the e-mail, it was stated that we should give registration details in respect of these donations from abroad otherwise they will be sent back,” Sukhdev Singh said.

The Samajwadi Party will conduct a special drive on December 25 when its leaders will go to villages in Uttar Pradesh and aware people about the "anti-farmer policies" of the BJP-led governments. 

In a press statement issued here on Sunday, the party's chief spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said SP leaders will go to villages and hold 'chaupal' (meeting) with farmers. The party's MPs and MLAs will lead the 'Samajwadi Kisan Ghera' campaign, he said. Punjab farmer commits suicide after returning from Delhi protests

A 22-year-old farmer, who returned from the protest near the Delhi border, today allegedly committed suicide after consuming some poisonous substance in his village in Punjab's Bathinda district.

Gurlabh Singh, a resident of Dayalpura Mirza village, had returned to his village late Saturday from the protest site, the police said.

He was taken to the nearby hospital where he was declared dead, the added.

Nashik farmers to march for Delhi tomorrow

Thousands of farmers from Maharashtra under the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) banner will leave from Nashik for Delhi tomorrow.

Thousands of farmers protesting at Delhi borders against the Centre's new agri laws remained firm in their demands of repealing the legislation, even as the city recorded its coldest morning this season, with the mercury dipping to 3.4 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

According to the India Meteorological Department, a cold wave swept Delhi on Sunday.

The Safdarjung Observatory, which provides representative data for the city, recorded a minimum of 3.4 degrees Celsius, five notches below the normal, on Sunday morning, an IMD official said.

The maximum temperature is likely to settled around 22 degrees Celsius, the official said.

The farmers' agitation, which has entered its fourth week, has also led to traffic diversions at various border points causing inconvenience to commuters.

According to the traffic police, Tikri and Dhansa borders are closed for any traffic movement. The Jhatikara Border is open only for two-wheelers and pedestrians.

However, for those travelling to Haryana, the Delhi Traffic Police said some borders are opened -- the Jharoda border (only for single carriageway), Daurala, Kapashera, Badusarai, Rajokri NH 8, Bijwasan/Bajghera, Palam Vihar and Dundahera.

The Ghazipur border is closed for traffic coming from Noida and Ghaziabad due to the ongoing protest.

Those travelling to Delhi can take alternative routes via Anad Vihar, DND, Apsara and Bhopra borders, it said.

The Chilla border between Noida and Delhi is open for traffic but for just one carriageway. The other carriageway from Noida to Delhi is closed, according to the traffic police.

Punjab-based artists inking tattoos for free at Singhu border to support agitating farmers

A group of tattoo artists from Punjab have set up a stall at the Singhu border, where farmers are agitating for over 24 days against the new agriculture laws. The group is inking tattoos for free at the protest site.

Ravindra Singh, one of the tattoo artists said that the idea behind this initiative is to motivate farmers and give them a memory of the protest.

"I have come from Ludhiana. We are inking tattoos for farmers. The idea behind this is to motivate them for the protest. We have lions, tractors, crops, farmers, Punjab's map, and motivational quotes. These tattoos will remind them about this protest. We have made 30 tattoos so far," Singh said.

"Something is only possible when youth will join this protest. Through this, youth can join the agitation. We are getting messages on our social media platforms as well," he said.

Among the patterns of these tattoos were a map of Punjab, the head of a lion, pictures of farmers harvesting crops, holding farm equipment, tractor, among others. There are tattoos with slogans and motivational quotes too, such as 'kar har maidan Fateh' (win every battle), and 'nishchay kar apni jeet karo' (emerge victorious with firm resolve).

Singh said that the cost of tattoos is around Rs 3,500-Rs 5,000.

The group reached the Delhi-Haryana border on Friday morning carrying ink, tattoo machines, needles, and stencils. However, they are going back as they have exhausted their materials need for inking tattoos.

New Delhi: Farmers who are protesting against the new farm laws on various state borders will observe December 20 as Shradhanjali Diwas to pay homage to those farmers who had lost their lives during the ongoing agitation.

The All India Kisan Sabha, a key member of the “Samyukta Kisan Morcha” that is spearheading the “Dilli Chalo” agitation against the three farm laws, on Saturday, announced that December 20 will be marked as Shradhanjali Diwas in the memory of farmers who have died during the protest since November 26. 

The farmer organisation has claimed that 33 farmers participating in the ongoing protests have died since November 26 due to accidents, illness and cold weather conditions. 

On December 20, farmers and all sections of the people will pay homage to them from 11 am to 1 pm by organising condolence meetings, human chain and garlanding the photos of the departed fighters in more than one lakh villages across the country,” said AIKS in a press statement, adding that that the “supreme sacrifices of these farmer fighters will not go in vain”.  
Thousands of farmers have been staying put at several border points of Delhi for more than three weeks, demanding a repeal of the new agriculture laws.

The farmers' agitation, which has entered its fourth week, has also led to traffic diversions at various border points causing inconvenience to commuters.

According to the traffic police, Tikri and Dhansa borders are closed for any traffic movement. The Jhatikara Border is open only for two-wheelers and pedestrians.

However, for those travelling to Haryana, the Delhi Traffic Police said some borders are opened -- the Jharoda border (only for single carriageway), Daurala, Kapashera, Badusarai, Rajokri NH 8, Bijwasan/Bajghera, Palam Vihar and Dundahera.

The Ghazipur border is closed for traffic coming from Noida and Ghaziabad due to the ongoing protest.

Those travelling to Delhi can take alternative routes via Anad Vihar, DND, Apsara and Bhopra borders, it said.

The Chilla border between Noida and Delhi is open for traffic but for just one carriageway. The other carriageway from Noida to Delhi is closed, according to the traffic police.

Punjab-based artists inking tattoos for free at Singhu border to support agitating farmers

A group of tattoo artists from Punjab have set up a stall at the Singhu border, where farmers are agitating for over 24 days against the new agriculture laws. The group is inking tattoos for free at the protest site.

Ravindra Singh, one of the tattoo artists said that the idea behind this initiative is to motivate farmers and give them a memory of the protest.

"I have come from Ludhiana. We are inking tattoos for farmers. The idea behind this is to motivate them for the protest. We have lions, tractors, crops, farmers, Punjab's map, and motivational quotes. These tattoos will remind them about this protest. We have made 30 tattoos so far," Singh said.

"Something is only possible when youth will join this protest. Through this, youth can join the agitation. We are getting messages on our social media platforms as well," he said.

Among the patterns of these tattoos were a map of Punjab, the head of a lion, pictures of farmers harvesting crops, holding farm equipment, tractor, among others. There are tattoos with slogans and motivational quotes too, such as 'kar har maidan Fateh' (win every battle), and 'nishchay kar apni jeet karo' (emerge victorious with firm resolve).

Singh said that the cost of tattoos is around Rs 3,500-Rs 5,000.

The group reached the Delhi-Haryana border on Friday morning carrying ink, tattoo machines, needles, and stencils. However, they are going back as they have exhausted their materials need for inking tattoos.

New Delhi: Farmers who are protesting against the new farm laws on various state borders will observe December 20 as Shradhanjali Diwas to pay homage to those farmers who had lost their lives during the ongoing agitation.

The All India Kisan Sabha, a key member of the “Samyukta Kisan Morcha” that is spearheading the “Dilli Chalo” agitation against the three farm laws, on Saturday, announced that December 20 will be marked as Shradhanjali Diwas in the memory of farmers who have died during the protest since November 26. 

The farmer organisation has claimed that 33 farmers participating in the ongoing protests have died since November 26 due to accidents, illness and cold weather conditions. 

On December 20, farmers and all sections of the people will pay homage to them from 11 am to 1 pm by organising condolence meetings, human chain and garlanding the photos of the departed fighters in more than one lakh villages across the country,” said AIKS in a press statement, adding that that the “supreme sacrifices of these farmer fighters will not go in vain”.  
Thousands of farmers have been staying put at several border points of Delhi for more than three weeks, demanding a repeal of the new agriculture laws.
