Farmers should wisely use fertilizers:Union Agriculture Minister

New Delhi: The Ministry of Agriculture and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) organized an awareness program in Delhi to make farmers aware about the right use of fertilizers and chemicals in farming.

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of State for Agriculture Purshottam Rupala and Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Sadanand Gowda were also present at the event.

Citing the Modi government's goal of doubling farmers' income by 2022, the Union Agriculture Minister said that the government will definitely achieve this goal.

The ministers interacted directly with the farmers and advised them to be sensitive to the land.

"Due to lack of awareness among farmers, they often do not know what amount of fertilizer and chemicals they should use in agriculture and what are their disadvantages. Due to this, not only their cost price increase but also the use of excessive amounts of manure and other chemicals affects the fertilizer potential of the farm. So when the government is providing facilities like checking the soil and giving its full report, then the farmers must take advantage of it. Farmers should nurture their fields just like their children," they added.

Minister of State for Agriculture Purshottam Rupala asked the well-informed farmers to work to make other farmers aware too and tell them that by examining the soil they can find out how much fertilizer will be suitable for the crop and what are the essential elements in their fields.

Through a video short film, farmers were also told about the proper maintenance of the land and the use of manure.

Efforts are being made to reduce the cost price to increase the income of the farmers. Earlier there was the talk of advancing zero budget farming, but now the government seems to be working on minimizing the cost price without much emphasis on that.

So when the government is providing the facility to use soil and other chemicals according to its report, after examining the soil for free, there is no harm in it for the farmers, but instead of taking advantage of it, they must reduce their cost price.

Also, the fertilizer capacity of the land can be maintained for a long time.

Prime Minister Modi in his address on the occasion of Independence Day had said about the minimum use of fertilizers and chemicals for farmers and such awareness program is an attempt to fulfil the same call of Prime Minister Modi.
