Farmer groups call for Karnataka bandh on Monday

Farmer groups have called for Karnataka bandh tomorrow protesting Land Reform Amendment and APMC Amendment Bill passed by State government in the Legislative Assembly. Private buses and metro services in Bengaluru will remain unaffected.

Bengaluru: A total of 49 organizations, including farmers' organizations, have called for Karnataka bandh on Monday protesting Land Reform Amendment and APMC Amendment Bill passed by State government in the Legislative Assembly. Despite prolonged 24 hours protest for the last five days, the state government has not taken any action.

Aikya Horata, a coalition of farmers, Dalits labour and worker groups, has called for Bandh. More than forty organizations including the Congress, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, Vegetable and Fruit Wholesaler's Union, All India United, Trade Union Social Unity Center and Women's Cultural Organization will support the protest.

On the other hand, the government has made all necessary arrangements for the service of the people without limiting the essential services. There will be no Ola, Uber. However, private buses and metro services in Bengaluru will remain unaffected. Bus and metro drivers’ associations have not yet extended any support to the farmer's association, indicating clearly that the services will function normally.

Notably, many farmers in Karnataka are against the ordinances passed by the state government on land and agricultural issues, namely the Karnataka Land Reforms Amendment Ordinance 2020, Karnataka Agricultural Produce Marketing (Regulation and Development) Amendment Ordinance, 2020.
