Farm bills are "anti-farmer" and "anti-worker": Yogendra Yadav

New Delhi: Many rallies are being organised across the country against the three controversial farm bills passed recently - amid chaos and uproar - in the Rajya Sabha.

The bills, which the government says will help small and marginal farmers get competitive prices for their produce - have been attacked by farmers and opposition leaders as "anti-farmer" and "anti-worker".

Swaraj Abhiyan chief Yogendra Yadav who attended the Bengaluru rally - described by organisers as a united struggle by farmers, Dalits and workers said that the farmers across the country are angry. The Prime Minister says only the opposition, including the Congress, is sponsoring the protests. The bills are not for farmers benefit but it is "anti-farmer" and "anti-worker."

He said that even the RSS-led farmer group is also protesting and every farmer in the country is standing up to be counted.

Yogendra Yadav said that farmers have declared Bharat Bandh on September 25. Farmers from all over the country will unite and raise their voice against it.

"We will see a protest against the attempt to turn Indian agriculture into company raj," he said.

Yogendra Yadav also questioned the process of passing the bills in Rajya Sabha. He directly targeted the Deputy Chairman saying that Harivansh ji has also become a third-grade "dramebaaz" in their company.

Leaders in the BJP state government have praised the new bills - which Prime Minister Narendra Modi called "historic" as he attempts to convince protesting farmers of the bills' benefits.
