Srinagar: Family of shopkeeper Ghulam Mohammad Mir, who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Srinagar's Parimpora on Thursday, claimed that the deceased was innocent.

"My husband was a very humble and pious person. He used to pray five times a day. How can anyone even think of killing him," Mir's wife told ETV Bharat adding that the family is shell-shocked after the incident.

"I was there only. When they tried to shoot my husband, we both bowed down and begged before them. I have no idea who they were," she said.

When asked if her husband had any links with the Army or militants, she said, "Absolutely not, my husband was not an informer. He had nothing to do with anything of this sort.'

Meanwhile, security has been strengthened further in the area and police is on a lookout for the killers.

Further investigation in the case is underway.
