So far 4,674 positive cases of corona have been registered in the books of the Municipal Corporation of Rajkot. As of this afternoon, 42 more corona positive cases were reported. Exponential increase in COVID-19 cases in Rajkot

An estimated 13 private hospitals in Rajkot have been approved for the treatment of coronavirus patients.

Rajkot is the hometown of state Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and it was here that the state government came under attack for its failure to control the pandemic. Principal health secretary Jayanti Ravi was sent to Rajkot to bring the situation under control. Jayanti Ravi stayed in Rajkot for 11 days and formulated a new strategy to combat coronavirus. However, looking at the situation this strategy too has failed to achieve desired results.

As many as 1,43,247 tests done

According to the official data of Rajkot Municipal Corporation, so far 1,43,247 tests were done in the city. Of these 4,674 cases were reported positive. At present 1,332 patients are under treatment in the civil and private hospitals. As many as 3,127 patients were discharged from the hospitals. As many as 3.23 of the people tested were found coronavirus positive while the recovery rate was 67.50 per cent. Among the prominent persons infected by coronavirus are Rajkot district collector Remya Mohan, mayor Binaben Acharya, Rajya Sabha member Abhay Bharadwaj and MLA Govind Patel. The state administration has failed to control the situation.

As many as 95 micro containment zones

Rajkot is considered the hub of the Saurashtra region. So, coronavirus patients from all over Saurashtra come to Rajkot for treatment. This is believed to be the reason for the high number of coronavirus cases in Rajkot. The Rajkot Municipal Corporation has increased the number of antigen test to identify coronavirus cases. The test is being carried out more widely in the vegetable market and all major localities.

Markets remain closed voluntarily

Various trade organizations of Rajkot have voluntarily closed the markets in view of the increasing spread of the pandemic. The jewellers association has called for a week-long closure while the traders of Danapith have decided to close shops after 3 pm for a week. The association of stationery shops too have decided to close shops after 5 pm for a week. Thus there is a general scare among the people about the pandemic and they are remaining indoors voluntarily. However, this seems to have no impact on the civic officials who are avoiding meeting journalists.

Administration has no explanation

When ETV Bharat tried to interview the chairman of the health committee of municipal corporation Jay Thakar he avoided meeting the journalists. Municipal commissioner Udit Agrawal too is avoiding the media. When journalists wanted to know the availability of ventilators, additional collector Parimal Pandya said he had no information about this but said the state government had decided to allocate 100 ventilators for the city.

However, one thing is obvious that coronavirus has become uncontrollable in Rajkot even though the administration has been trying hard to bring the situation under control.
