Many hospitalised again with 'elusive' disease in AP

Twenty-seven people were hospitalised in Bhumadolu Mandal with symptoms similar to the mysterious illness reported in Eluru. Officials have carried out tests on drinking water and food in the area.

West Godavari: People in West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh were reportedly hit again by an elusive disease. Following giddiness, about 27 people were hospitalised in Bhumadolu Mandal.

The sigh of relief is that after treatment, people showed signs of recovery and have returned back home.

The district medical department was issued an alert as similar symptoms of mysterious illness reported in Eluru was examined in the patients. Officials have conducted tests on drinking water and food.

From December 4 to 12, 622 people became victims reportedly to a mysterious disease that created a sensation in Eluru of West Godavari district. Regarding the mysterious illness reported in Eluru, a high-level committee formed to unravel the facts had earlier opined that people were victims of consuming contaminated vegetables.

They were treated in district and Vijayawada hospitals after becoming unconscious by developing a variety of symptoms like fainting, vomiting, froth and foam from mouths, motions, fever, headache and others.

Symptoms of dizziness and epilepsy were seen in all victims, said Superintendent of Mangalagiri AIIMS Dr Rakesh Kakkar.

Chlorine can cause similar diseases as well as lead. Insecticides used by farmers can also be a cause. However, these cannot be determined without a report, he added.
