4.5 magnitude earthquake strikes Rajkot

New Delhi: An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 on the Richter Scale hit Karimganj in Assam today at 7:57 am, according to National Center for Seismology.

Another 4.5 magnitude earthquake strikes Rajkot in Gujarat today at 7:40 am. 

Meanwhile, an earthquake of magnitude 2.3 on the Richter scale also hit Una in Himachal Pradesh at 04:47 am today. 

There were no immediate reports of any loss of life or damage to property. 

The mountainous northeastern state had recorded successive quakes during the past several days and seismologists consider the mountainous northeast region as the sixth major earthquake-prone belt in the world.

Earlier, an earthquake of magnitude 5.8 was felt in Kutch region of Gujarat on Sunday at 8:13 pm. 

According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake struck regions around 122 km north-northwest (NNW) of Rajkot. 

According to reports, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Kutch, Morbi, Jamnagar, Patan, Vadodara felt the tremor for about four to nine seconds. The epicentre of the quake is believed to be near Kutch area.

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani held an immediate telephone conversation with the Collectors of Rajkot, Kutch and Patan districts, soon after the tremors were felt in the state.
