New Delhi: Claiming that as many as three girls from the minority community have been "abducted" in the last two days in Pakistan, SAD leader and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Friday called on the Ministry of External Affairs to intervene in the matter.
Sirsa led a DSGMC delegation that met MEA Joint Secretary Deepak Mittal. "Met up with Joint Sec Deepak Mittal Ji on problems & atrocities faced by minority girls in Pakistan in light of abduction cases recently reported..." Sirsa said in a tweet, adding that the Joint Secretary assured them of taking up the matter with the Pakistan High Commission today itself.
Earlier today, Sirsa claimed that three girls from the minority community were "abducted" in Pakistan in the last two days.
He said that two girls - Shanti and Sarmi Meghwad were abducted from Umar village in Pakistan's Sindh province on January 15, and another 14-year-old girl was abducted from Jacobabad on January 16.
Sirsa further claimed that the 14-year-old's father got a call from her abductor, who said that the girl was raped. The local SP then told the girl's father that she would return four days later, claimed Sirsa.
"In the past two months, at least 50 girls were abducted. And this is what I am aware of, the actual number might be much higher. I have spoken to both the MHA and MEA, and requested them to immediately summon the Pakistan High Commission and ensure that these girls return home," Sirsa said.
