DRDO designs India's first Mobile Virology lab

India's first mobile virology laboratory designed by Defence Research & Development Organisation was launched online by the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The lab can do corona testings and can test at least 100 samples in a day's time.

Hyderabad (Telangana): In a first of its kind, a mobile virology laboratory designed by the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) in collaboration with Eye Clean and Eye Safe Hospital, was inaugurated in Hyderabad to speed up the Covid-19 testings.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the lab in the online presence of Union Minister Kishan Reddy and Santosh Kumar Gangwar with the state IT Minister KT Rama Rao.

Along with corona testings, the lab can also be used for various research purposes like the study on virus and development of a vaccine. This lab was developed in 15 days and can test at least 100 samples in a day.

Congratulating the DRDO team for their innovation, Rajnath Singh said, "I thank everyone who is working hard to fight against Covid-19. The central government is happy that defence forces are also contributing along with health staff in the Covid-19 war."

"More Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needs to be produced. However, India is not as affected as other countries",he added.

Earlier, the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) had come up with a COVID-19 sample Collection kiosk named COVSAC to combat Covid-19.
