Did PM violate Model Code of Conduct; EC to decide today

New Delhi: The Election Commission will decide whether Prime Minister's 'Mission Shakti' announcement violated the Model Code of Conduct. The EC also denied reports that the Prime Minister took permission to address the nation on Wednesday , where he announced India's successful demonstration of the anti-satellite missile system.

The committee examining the allegations has held two meetings and is set to finalise its report on whether the content of his address violated the Model Code of Conduct.

Election Commission will take the final decision based on the committee's report.

Deputy Election Commissioner Sandeep Saxena in a statement had said that PMO had neither informed nor sought permission to broadcast the address.

India shot down one of its satellites in space on Wednesday with an anti-satellite missile to demonstrate this complex capability, making it only the fourth country to have used such a weapon.

Declaring India has established itself as a global space power after the success of the operation 'Mission Shakti', PM Modi said the missile hit a live satellite flying in a Low Earth Orbit after it traversed a distance of almost 300 km from the Earth within three minutes of its launch.
