New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked Juvenile Justice Committee of J-K High Court, to file a detailed fresh report on detention of children during the shutdown in the Kashmir valley.
According to reports, the apex court was hearing the plea filed by child rights activist, Enakshi Ganguly, claiming detention of children in valley.
Senior Advocate Huzefa Ahmadi, apprearing for the petitioners cited various media reports pertaining to child detention.
Meanwhile, Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta referred to the report by the Chief Justice of JK High Court, which says that the court is functioning normally and it can deal with the matter related to law and order in the valley.
According to sources, apex court now seeks fresh report from the JK legal committee on human rights violations in state. Petitioners had earlier alleged that activists were not able to approach the high court following the abrogation of Article 370.
The plea has contended that all persons below the age of 18 years, who have been detained be identified through an age census.The plea has also sough compensation for the victims.
