Hyderabad: At a time when many businesses have been capitalising on the pandemic to increase their profits, a pharmaceutical company has taken a humanitarian approach and is selling sanitisers at prices lesser than usual.
In a brief chat with Eenadu Vasundhara, Vaishali Aggarwal, the technical director of Scott Edil Pharmacia, said that the company has been selling sanitisers for less than the manufacturing cost.
The Chandigarh-headquartered company, which has an isopropyl alcohol-based sanitiser making unit in Himachal Pradesh’s Baddi, has 200 staff members and manufactures 10,000 units monthly.
Vaishali, who heads the technical functions and is primarily responsible for regulatory affairs and international business of the company, had been getting frantic calls, asking her unit to increase its production citing the critical shortage of sanitisers.

With the rise in demand, Vaishali and her unit accelerated the production to meet public needs. The employees worked in three shifts. As the orders for sanitisers shot up, they kept the production of several drugs on hold. About 15 lakh sanitisers were sold in March alone.
However, what makes Vaishali's work truly great is the fact that her company sold sanitisers at prices lesser than the manufacturing cost. Despite the loss, Vaishali said she was happy that the company contributed towards the well-being of the society.
However, the unit had to be closed down on April 12 after the Himachal Pradesh government declared the area adjacent to Baddi unit as a containment zone. But that did not deter Vaishali, as the company continued manufacturing from another unit in Chandigarh.
For her exceptional work during the pandemic, Vaishali received appreciation from all quarters.
