Low temperatures forecast for northwest India

The Indian Meteorological Department has said the cold wave will lead to a fall in the minimum temperature by 3 to 5 degrees during the next three days in the states of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan.

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department, on Thursday, informed that a western disturbance is impacting the Western Himalayas due to which it has been expected that light rain or snow will occur in the western plains. Also, the cold wave will lead to a fall in the minimum temperature by 3 to 5 degrees during the next three days.

In its bulletin, IMD stated, "Due to the prevalence of dry north/northwesterly winds, the minimum temperature below normal is very likely to remain over most part of northwest India during next 3 days. Hence, dense to very dense fog at a few pockets and cold day/severe cold day conditions in isolated places is very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar during next three days."

It informed that severe cold wave and ground frost conditions are also likely to occur over isolated places in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and north Madhya Pradesh during next 3 days. IMD had also issued an orange alert in the northern parts of the country predicting severe to very severe cold conditions in the states of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan.
