New Delhi: India Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued fresh weather updates for for the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli in the light of extremely severe cyclonic storm, Maha.
Cyclone Maha had seemingly moved away from the west coast of India till last Tuesday but it has since turned around and is heading towards the Gujarat coast.
According to the updates, winds reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to commence over the northeast Arabian Sea along and off the Gujarat coast. Sea conditions over the Gujarat and Maharashtra coast is likely to remain rough till November 6.
The weather forcasting agency has also alerted fishermen to observe total suspension of fishing operations till November 6. IMD had earlier informed that severe cyclonic storm Maha over East Central Arabian Sea moved westwards and intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm at 2:30 pm on Sunday over East Central Arabian Sea about 590 km WSW of Veraval, Gujarat.
Besides, Coastal and North Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal were also battered by rains on Friday.
