Mulayam Singh Yadav tests positive for coronavirus

Samajwadi Party patriarch and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, 80, has tested positive for coronavirus.  

"Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav is under the supervision of doctors after he tested positive for coronavirus. He has shown no corona symptom for now," the Samajwadi Party tweeted.

Highest single-day spike of 64 deaths pushes West Bengal's COVID-19 toll to 5,808

Kolkata:  West Bengal reported the highest single-day COVID-19 fatality count of 64 on Wednesday, pushing the death toll to 5,808, the health department said in a bulletin.

The state's coronavirus tally climbed to 3,05,697 with 3,677 fresh cases -- the biggest one-day spike so far -- itsaid.

Goa reports 356 new COVID-19 cases; one-year-old among 4 dead

Panaji: The number of coronavirus positive cases in Goa increased by 356 to 39,438 on Wednesday, while the death of four patients, including a one-year-old child, took the fatality count to 519, a health official said.

This one-year-old child is the youngest one to have succumbed to the infection in the state so far, he said.

Himachal Pradesh speaker tests positive for coronavirus

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Vipin Singh Parmar tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday.  

In a Facebook post, Parmar said he had developed coronavirus symptoms two days ago.  

"I have isolated myself at my official residence on doctors' advice," he added.           

So far, 13 legislators, including the speaker and CM Jai Ram Thakur, have contracted the virus.

Rajasthan sees 2,021 fresh COVID-19 cases, 15 more deaths

Jaipur:  Rajasthan recorded 15 more fatalities due to novel coronavirus on Wednesday, taking the death toll in the state to 1,694, a health department bulletin said.

The state also reported 2,021 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. The total number of people infected stands at 1,65,240, out of which, 21,711 are under treatment.

6,244 fresh COVID-19 cases; 20 more deaths takes toll to 1,066

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala on Wednesday reported 6,244 fresh COVID-19 cases,-- 5,745 infected through local transmission, taking the caseload to 3,08,140, the toll mounted to 1,066 with 20 more fatalities.

The deceased included a five-month-old baby and a 90-year-old man, health minister KK Shailaja said.

In the last 24 hours, 50,056 samples have been examined and so far 37,26,738 samples sent for testing.

Malappuram reported 1,013 cases, followed by Ernakulam 793, Kozhikode 661, Thrissur 581, Thiruvananthapuram 581 and Kollam 551, the minister said in a press release.

Army's Northern Command has conducted over 34,000 COVID-19 tests in J-K so far

Jammu: To strengthen the efforts of the civil administration in Jammu and Kashmir, the Army's Northern Command has conducted 34,396 tests for the civilian population till date, with a positivity rate of 2.55 per cent, a defence spokesperson said on Wednesday.

A total of 4,636 patients were successfully treated, while 22 deaths were reported in Army hospitals since the outbreak of the disease, the spokesman said, adding that the case fatality rate stood at of 0.28 per cent.

TN records 5,083 recoveries, 4,462 fresh COVID-19 cases

Chennai: Recoveries continued to outnumber the number of fresh COVID-19 cases in Tamil Nadu as 5,083 people got cured after treatment taking the tally to 6,17,403, while the state saw 4,462 new infections aggregating to 6,70,392, the health department said on Wednesday.

As many as 52 people succumbed to the virus,pushing the death toll to 10,423, a department bulletin said. 

Active cases in Tamil Nadu, including those in isolation, was at 42,566.

1,175 new coronavirus cases in Gujarat, 11 deaths

Ahmedabad: The number of coronavirus cases in Gujarat increased to 1,55,098 with an addition of 1,175 cases on Wednesday, the state health department said.

With 11 COVID-19 patients dying, the death toll rose to 3,598, it said.

Daily recoveries continued to outnumber new cases in the state, with 1,414 patients getting discharged on Wednesday, taking the number of recovered cases to 1,36,541.

1,205 fresh COVID-19 cases, 13 more fatalities in Haryana

Chandigarh: Haryana reported 1,205 fresh novel coronavirus cases taking the infection tally to 1,45,507 on Wednesday, while thirteen more COVID-19 fatalities pushed the state's death toll to 1,614, the Health department said.

Of the latest coronavirus fatalities reported from the state, four deaths were in Hisar, three in Panchkula, two each in Faridabad and Rohtak and one death each in Gurugram and Bhiwani, according to the state Health department's daily bulletin.

J&K records 701 new COVID-19 cases; 12 more die

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir recorded 701 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the infection tally to 85,409 on Wednesday, while 12 more coronavirus fatalities pushed the union territory's death toll to 1,352, officials said.

Out of the new virus cases, 264 were reported in Jammu division and 437 in Kashmir valley, they said.

Srinagar district reported the highest number of 163 new COVID-19 cases, followed by 128 in the Jammu district, the officials said.

Amaravati: Showing a further decline, 3,892 fresh coronavirus cases were reported in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday as the aggregate went up to 7,67,465. The latest bulletin said 5,050 patients had recovered in 24 hours ending 9 AM on Wednesday, taking the overall count to 7,19,477.

Maha: Amravati records 54 new COVID-19 cases, 133 recoveries  

Amravati: At least 54 persons tested positive for coronavirus, while four died of the infection in Maharashtra's Amravati district on Wednesday, an official said.

With the latest addition in cases and casualties, the tally in the district reached 15,118 and the toll rose to 339, the official said.

Noida records 139 new coronavirus cases, one more succumbs to disease

Noida: Uttar Pradesh''s Gautam Buddh Nagar recorded one more fatality due to COVID-19 on Wednesday, pushing the death toll to 61, official data showed.

The district also recorded 139 new COVID-19 cases as its overall infection tally reached 15,327, according to the data released by the UP Health Department for a 24-hour period.

The number of active cases came down to 1,528 from 1,557 on Tuesday and 1,579 on Monday, the data showed.

As many as 167 patients got discharged during the period and the overall number of recoveries in the district reached 13,738, seventh highest in the state, it showed.

With the death toll reaching 61, the mortality rate among positive patients in the district reached 0.39 per cent, according to official statistics.

Mumbai metro rail services allowed to restart from tomorrow

Maharashtra government today announced that metro rail services can operate in Mumbai from tomorrow, 15 October, in a graded manner with precautions.

The announcement came amid several other relaxations under the state government's fresh 'Begin Again' guidelines for the month of October amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Among other relaxations, the state government also announced re-opening of government and private libraries.

Over 10 lakh COVID-19 suspects tested in Thane so far

Thane: Over 10.15 lakh persons have been tested for coronavirus so far in Maharashtra''s Thane district, of which more than 8 lakh tested negative for the infection, an official said on Wednesday.

With the addition of 959 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, the count of infections in the district reached 1.94 lakh, the official said.

Apart from this, 39 patients died of the infection, raising the toll to 4,913, he said.

The district has recorded a recovery rate of 89.96 per cent, while mortality rate stood at 2.53 per cent, he said, adding that the district currently has 14,548 active cases.

COVID-19 toll in Pondy climbs to 568 with one more death

Puducherry: A 36-year-old man succumbed to coronavirus in Puducherry on Wednesday, raising the toll to 568 in the union territory. 

Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release that 246 new cases were identified at the end of examination of 4,521 samples, pushing the caseload to 32,245. Of the new cases, 189 were from Puducherry, 41 in Karaikal, 6 in Yanam and 10 in Mahe region. 

The Director said that 2.46 lakh samples have been tested so far and it was found that 2.10 lakh samples out of them were negative. The fatality and recovery rates were 1.76 percent and 84.21 percent respectively. 

While 4,525 patients were active cases, 27,152 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The patient who succumbed to the viral infection had acute kidney disease. He was a Covid pneumonia patient.

Jharkhand reports 701 new COVID-19 cases, seven fresh fatalities

Ranchi: Jharkhand's COVID-19 tally mounted to 93,736 as 701 more people tested positive for the infection, a health department official said on Wednesday.

Seven more patients succumbed to the disease, taking the state''s coronavirus death toll to 805, he said.

Of the fresh fatalities, four were recorded in Ranchi, two in Dhanbad and one in Chatra.

Ranchi district reported the highest number of new cases at 364, followed by East Singhbhum at 48 and Bokaro at 38.

Jharkhand now has 7,617 active coronavirus cases, while 85,314 people have been cured of the disease so far, the official said.

The state has conducted 32,186 sample tests for COVID-19 on Tuesday, he added.

Arunachal Pradesh reports 193 new COVID-19 cases, 4 fatalities

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh's COVID-19 tally mounted to 12,561 with 193 people testing positive for the virus, while four more fatalities pushed the death toll 28, a senior health department official said here on Wednesday.

A 56-year-old man died at the Dedicated Covid Hospital (DCH) at Chimpu near here on Tuesday. He was suffering from diabetes and hypertension, the official said.

An 88-year-old woman from Sille village in East Siang district, also died on Tuesday at a hospital at Ruksin due to acute respiratory distress syndrome, while a 50-year-old man in West Siang district died of the infection and a 42-year-old diabetic man from Kharsang in Changlang district died on Monday, State Surveillance officer Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

With the fresh fatalities, the state has registered 11 deaths since October 1.

Himachal Technical Education Minister Tests COVID-19 Positive

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Technical Education Minister Ram Lal Markanda has tested positive for coronavirus. He is the fifth minister, including Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, and the 12th MLA in the 68-member state Assembly to have contracted the virus.

In a post on social media on Tuesday, Markanda said he has tested positive as he had developed some symptoms after coming in contact with a COVID-19 patient. “I have isolated myself at my official residence on doctors’ advice,” he added.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur had tested positive for COVID-19 earlier on Monday. Similarly, Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj tested positive for the novel coronavirus on October 7.

Eight deaths, 1,446 new COVID-19 cases in Telangana

Hyderabad: Telangana registered 1,446 fresh coronavirus cases and eight related fatalities, taking the tally of infections in the state to 2.16 lakh. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for 252 of the fresh cases, followed by Rangareddy 135, Medchal Malkajgiri 131 and other districts, a state government bulletin said on Wednesday, providing data as of 8 PM on October 13. 

The toll rose to 1,241 with eight deaths. The state has witnessed a declining trend in COVID-19 cases as the fresh infections reported were at sub-2,000 levels during the past several days. The number of people who recovered from infectious disease has also been more than the new cases. 

The bulletin said 40,056 samples were tested on October 13. Cumulatively, the number of samples tested was 36.64 lakh. The samples tested per million population was 98,445, it said. The cumulative recovered cases stood at 1.91 lakh, while 23,728 were under treatment. 

The recovery rate in the state rose further to 88.45 per cent, while it was 87 per cent in the country, it added. The case fatality rate in the state was 0.57 per cent and 1.5 per cent at the national level.

13 new cases push COVID-19 tally of Andamans to 4,036

Port Blair: The COVID-19 tally in Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 4,036 as 13 more people have tested positive for the infection in the Union Territory, a health department official said on Wednesday.

Of the fresh cases, 10 were detected during contact tracing, while three have travel history, he said.

Twelve more people were cured of the disease on Tuesday, taking the total number of recoveries in the archipelago to 3,782, the official said.

The Union territory now has 199 active COVID-19 cases, and 55 patients have succumbed to the infection, he said.

The Andaman and Nicobar administration has so far sent 70,780 samples for COVID-19 tests, of which 70,688 reports have been received, the official added.

New Delhi: India's COVID-19 caseload rose to 72,39,389 with 63,509 infections being reported in a day, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease crossed 63 lakh pushing the recovery rate to 87.05 per cent, according to the Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.

The coronavirus death toll climbed to 1,10,586 with the virus claiming 730 lives in a span of 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed.  

For six days in a row the active cases of COVID-19 remained below 9 lakh.

There are 8,26,876 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which comprises 11.42 per cent of the total caseload, while the recoveries have surged to 63,01,927, the data stated.

The COVID-19 case fatality rate was recorded at 1.53 per cent.

India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23 and 40 lakh on September 5. It went past  50 lakh on September 16, 60 lakh on September 28 and crossed 70 lakh on October 11.

According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 9,00,90,122 samples have been tested up to October 13 with 11,45,015 samples being tested on Tuesday.

Noida records 139 new coronavirus cases, one more succumbs to disease

Noida: Uttar Pradesh''s Gautam Buddh Nagar recorded one more fatality due to COVID-19 on Wednesday, pushing the death toll to 61, official data showed.

The district also recorded 139 new COVID-19 cases as its overall infection tally reached 15,327, according to the data released by the UP Health Department for a 24-hour period.

The number of active cases came down to 1,528 from 1,557 on Tuesday and 1,579 on Monday, the data showed.

As many as 167 patients got discharged during the period and the overall number of recoveries in the district reached 13,738, seventh highest in the state, it showed.

With the death toll reaching 61, the mortality rate among positive patients in the district reached 0.39 per cent, according to official statistics.

Mumbai metro rail services allowed to restart from tomorrow

Maharashtra government today announced that metro rail services can operate in Mumbai from tomorrow, 15 October, in a graded manner with precautions.

The announcement came amid several other relaxations under the state government's fresh 'Begin Again' guidelines for the month of October amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Among other relaxations, the state government also announced re-opening of government and private libraries.

Over 10 lakh COVID-19 suspects tested in Thane so far

Thane: Over 10.15 lakh persons have been tested for coronavirus so far in Maharashtra''s Thane district, of which more than 8 lakh tested negative for the infection, an official said on Wednesday.

With the addition of 959 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, the count of infections in the district reached 1.94 lakh, the official said.

Apart from this, 39 patients died of the infection, raising the toll to 4,913, he said.

The district has recorded a recovery rate of 89.96 per cent, while mortality rate stood at 2.53 per cent, he said, adding that the district currently has 14,548 active cases.

COVID-19 toll in Pondy climbs to 568 with one more death

Puducherry: A 36-year-old man succumbed to coronavirus in Puducherry on Wednesday, raising the toll to 568 in the union territory. 

Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release that 246 new cases were identified at the end of examination of 4,521 samples, pushing the caseload to 32,245. Of the new cases, 189 were from Puducherry, 41 in Karaikal, 6 in Yanam and 10 in Mahe region. 

The Director said that 2.46 lakh samples have been tested so far and it was found that 2.10 lakh samples out of them were negative. The fatality and recovery rates were 1.76 percent and 84.21 percent respectively. 

While 4,525 patients were active cases, 27,152 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The patient who succumbed to the viral infection had acute kidney disease. He was a Covid pneumonia patient.

Jharkhand reports 701 new COVID-19 cases, seven fresh fatalities

Ranchi: Jharkhand's COVID-19 tally mounted to 93,736 as 701 more people tested positive for the infection, a health department official said on Wednesday.

Seven more patients succumbed to the disease, taking the state''s coronavirus death toll to 805, he said.

Of the fresh fatalities, four were recorded in Ranchi, two in Dhanbad and one in Chatra.

Ranchi district reported the highest number of new cases at 364, followed by East Singhbhum at 48 and Bokaro at 38.

Jharkhand now has 7,617 active coronavirus cases, while 85,314 people have been cured of the disease so far, the official said.

The state has conducted 32,186 sample tests for COVID-19 on Tuesday, he added.

Arunachal Pradesh reports 193 new COVID-19 cases, 4 fatalities

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh's COVID-19 tally mounted to 12,561 with 193 people testing positive for the virus, while four more fatalities pushed the death toll 28, a senior health department official said here on Wednesday.

A 56-year-old man died at the Dedicated Covid Hospital (DCH) at Chimpu near here on Tuesday. He was suffering from diabetes and hypertension, the official said.

An 88-year-old woman from Sille village in East Siang district, also died on Tuesday at a hospital at Ruksin due to acute respiratory distress syndrome, while a 50-year-old man in West Siang district died of the infection and a 42-year-old diabetic man from Kharsang in Changlang district died on Monday, State Surveillance officer Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

With the fresh fatalities, the state has registered 11 deaths since October 1.

Himachal Technical Education Minister Tests COVID-19 Positive

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Technical Education Minister Ram Lal Markanda has tested positive for coronavirus. He is the fifth minister, including Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, and the 12th MLA in the 68-member state Assembly to have contracted the virus.

In a post on social media on Tuesday, Markanda said he has tested positive as he had developed some symptoms after coming in contact with a COVID-19 patient. “I have isolated myself at my official residence on doctors’ advice,” he added.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur had tested positive for COVID-19 earlier on Monday. Similarly, Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj tested positive for the novel coronavirus on October 7.

Eight deaths, 1,446 new COVID-19 cases in Telangana

Hyderabad: Telangana registered 1,446 fresh coronavirus cases and eight related fatalities, taking the tally of infections in the state to 2.16 lakh. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for 252 of the fresh cases, followed by Rangareddy 135, Medchal Malkajgiri 131 and other districts, a state government bulletin said on Wednesday, providing data as of 8 PM on October 13. 

The toll rose to 1,241 with eight deaths. The state has witnessed a declining trend in COVID-19 cases as the fresh infections reported were at sub-2,000 levels during the past several days. The number of people who recovered from infectious disease has also been more than the new cases. 

The bulletin said 40,056 samples were tested on October 13. Cumulatively, the number of samples tested was 36.64 lakh. The samples tested per million population was 98,445, it said. The cumulative recovered cases stood at 1.91 lakh, while 23,728 were under treatment. 

The recovery rate in the state rose further to 88.45 per cent, while it was 87 per cent in the country, it added. The case fatality rate in the state was 0.57 per cent and 1.5 per cent at the national level.

13 new cases push COVID-19 tally of Andamans to 4,036

Port Blair: The COVID-19 tally in Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 4,036 as 13 more people have tested positive for the infection in the Union Territory, a health department official said on Wednesday.

Of the fresh cases, 10 were detected during contact tracing, while three have travel history, he said.

Twelve more people were cured of the disease on Tuesday, taking the total number of recoveries in the archipelago to 3,782, the official said.

The Union territory now has 199 active COVID-19 cases, and 55 patients have succumbed to the infection, he said.

The Andaman and Nicobar administration has so far sent 70,780 samples for COVID-19 tests, of which 70,688 reports have been received, the official added.

New Delhi: India's COVID-19 caseload rose to 72,39,389 with 63,509 infections being reported in a day, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease crossed 63 lakh pushing the recovery rate to 87.05 per cent, according to the Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.

The coronavirus death toll climbed to 1,10,586 with the virus claiming 730 lives in a span of 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed.  

For six days in a row the active cases of COVID-19 remained below 9 lakh.

There are 8,26,876 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which comprises 11.42 per cent of the total caseload, while the recoveries have surged to 63,01,927, the data stated.

The COVID-19 case fatality rate was recorded at 1.53 per cent.

India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23 and 40 lakh on September 5. It went past  50 lakh on September 16, 60 lakh on September 28 and crossed 70 lakh on October 11.

According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 9,00,90,122 samples have been tested up to October 13 with 11,45,015 samples being tested on Tuesday.
