COVID-19 tests in Delhi to cost Rs 450, says AAP leader Sanjay Singh

After the Home Minister Amit Shah called an all-party meeting to discuss the Covid-19 situation in New Delhi, AAP leader Sanjay Singh said that new COVID-19 test in the national capital will cost Rs 450. Singh also said that state government will start conducting 18,000 COVID-19 tests per day by June 20.

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh on Monday said that new COVID-19 test in Delhi will soon cost Rs 450.

"A new test which will cost Rs 450 will be soon available in the national capital. The test will be conducted in 15 minutes," Sanjay Singh told ETV Bharat.

On the same note, he added that "We are making efforts to increase COVID-19 tests in the city and we have kept a target to conduct 18,000 tests by June 20."

The statement of the AAP leader comes after the Union Home Minister chaired a meeting of all the political parties to discuss the coronavirus crisis in New Delhi.

Talking about the meeting with HM, Singh said, "After Tamil Nadu, Delhi is the only state to conduct the highest number of COVID-19 tests and we are also leading in the availability of hospital beds. Around 46 per cent of the hospital beds in New Delhi is vacant and we will start conducting 18,000 tests by June 20."

A proposal regarding increasing the number of beds in Delhi and Central government hospitals was discussed in the all-party meeting.

He went on to add, "A proposal to increase 1,900 beds in state government and 2,000 beds in Central government hospitals was received. 1,178 beds will be increased in private hospitals and 8,000 thousand beds will be increased through 500 (train) coaches and then further 8,000 in the coming days, bringing the total number to 16,000,"

Asked about how the Delhi govt is handling the pandemic, he said, "All parties will fight coronavirus pandemic. We will seek help from NCC, Scouts & Guides, volunteers to tackle this hour of crisis. Instead of politicising the issue, we should join hands to fight against corona."

Representatives from BJP, Congress, AAP, among other parties and senior officials took part in the meeting held at the MHA today.
