New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry on Wednesday said that the COVID-19 situation in India is being monitored at the highest level. Meanwhile, with 773 fresh positive cases reported on Tuesday, the total tally of COVID 19 cases in India stood at 5194.
According to official sources, India's overall initiative to fight against COVID 19 pandemic is being constantly monitored by the Prime Minister Office (PMO).
"As on today 149 death also took place (32 on Tuesday) whereas 492 people have also been recovered," said Lav Aggrawal, Joint secretary in the Union Health Ministry.
Emphasising that people should abide by the norms of social distancing and lockdown, Aggrawal said, "even single negligence can spoil the overall effort in fighting this infectious disease."
He informed that the Central government, at present, is emphasising on setting up COVID 19 care facilities. The Union Home Ministry, on the other hand, has also intensified its lockdown measures.
"Lockdown in and adjacent to the Covid19 hotspot have been intensified. State governments have also been doing area mapping and barricading in several places to ensure strict lockdown," said Puniya Salila Srivastava, joint secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said that 1,21,271 Covid19 tests were conducted in 204 laboratories across India that includes 139 labs connected to ICMR and 65 private labs. As many as 13345 tests have been done on Tuesday.
