Amid a shortage of plasma donors in Delhi, the Arvind Kejriwal government has come up with a new policy in which COVID-19 patients will have to first arrange for a replacement donor, in order to get plasma from plasma bank. Meanwhile, Patna will go into complete lockdown from July 10.

Hyderabad: In the words of the government, despite a population of 1.3 billion people, India has been able to manage COVID19 relatively well, and the cases per million population still remain the lowest in the world.

Delhi

Amid a shortage of plasma donors in the state, the Arvind Kejriwal government has come up with a new policy in which COVID-19 patients will have to first arrange for a replacement donor, in order to get plasma from plasma bank.

An officer of the hospital will be responsible for finding a replacement donor. The decision was taken to maintain stocks amid a spurt in cases.

Gujarat

Following the closure of several diamond units in Surat, industrial workers are making a move to their native villages even as the country continues to open up as part of unlock policy. Surat Diamond Workers Union president Jaysukh Gajera fears that 70% of the workers who are leaving the city may never come back. A total of six lakh people are currently employed in 9,000 diamond cutting and polishing units, which have started functioning since the start of June.

Meanwhile, over 600 workers and their families have been tested positive for COVID-19 so far.

Bihar

A complete lockdown has been ordered in Patna from July 10 to July 16 due to a sudden spurt in novel coronavirus cases. The order to this effect was issued by Patna District Magistrate Kumar Ravi. Except for the essential services, markets, offices and other commercial activities will be prohibited during the lockdown period.

The decision comes on a day Bihar reported a spike of 700 cases, of which Patna alone accounted for 132. The state's tally now stands at 14,000.

Meanwhile, a petition has been filed in High Court to postpone the assembly elections which are due in November this year.

Jharkhand

The total number of cases in the state has risen to 3192 including 2170 recovered/discharged cases. Around 14 officers of Jugsalai municipal council office have been infected with the virus. The recovery rate in the state stands at 69.24% and the mortality rate is 0.7%.

Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh reported 17 more deaths and over 1,200 fresh cases taking the state's infection tally to 32,362. So far, 862 deaths have been reported in the state, Additional Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said.

The number of active cases has gone up to 10,373, while 21,127 have been discharged from hospitals after recovery.

Rajasthan

A total of 20 people including the family of groom and bride have tested positive in Jodhpur district. According to reports, the wedding took place on July 3. The health department has collected samples from the entire locality. A total of 200 samples were collected as part after the contact tracing drive.

Uttarakhand

The state's pandemic tally rose to 3,305, with 47 new infections in 24 hours. The total number of recovered patients is 2,672, as per the state government's bulletin.

Odisha

Odisha reported its highest single-day spike of 577 COVID-19 cases, taking the tally in the state to 11,201, while four more deaths pushed the toll to 52, a health department official said.
