New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi slammed Narendra Modi-led Central Government by terming the COVID-19 induced nationwide lockdown as an 'anti-people disaster plan' which attacked the unorganized sector and "destroyed" informal economy of the country.

The remarks were made in the last part of Rahul Gandhi's video series in which he talked about the effect of nationwide lockdown on the Indian economy.

"The sudden lockdown proved to be a death sentence for the unorganized sector. Their promise was to end Corona in 21 days, but they finished crores of jobs and small industries," Gandhi tweeted along with his video.

He alleged that the Central Government made an attack on the unorganized sector in the name of Corona. He said, "The poor, those working in small and medium businesses, are daily wage earners. They eat with what they earn each day. When you announced a lockdown without prior notice, you attacked them."

"Prime Minister said that the fight will be for 21 days, but the backbone of unorganized sector broke in 21 days," Gandhi further added.

The video also stated that due to nationwide lockdown 383 people lost their lives and 2.7 crore youth, between the age group of 20 to 30, got unemployed.

The Congress leader asserted that despite their repetitive appeal to the Center to implement NYAY scheme by providing direct cash transfers to the vulnerable sections, the Modi Government ignored it.

"We suggested that for small and medium businesses, you should prepare a package. They need to be saved. Without this money, they will not be able to survive. But the government did nothing, instead, the government waived off taxes worth lacks of crores of the richest 15 to 20 people," Rahul Gandhi said.

"The lockdown was not an attack on Corona. It was an attack on poor, farmers, labourers, small shopkeepers and the future of our youth. We have to understand this and we all have to stand against this attack," he further added.

Gandhi, in his video series "Arthvyavastha ki Baat", accused the Central Government of destroying the informal economy of the country by its three decisions, including Demonetization, GST implementation and Nationwide lockdown.
