New Delhi: About 48 per cent of total COVID-19 deaths in the country are concentrated in 25 districts of 8 states, out of which 15 districts are in Maharastra alone, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press briefing, Union Health Ministry Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said India has recorded the highest number of recoveries from COVID-19 at over 56 lakh and India has also conducted the second-highest number of tests in the world at 8.10 crore.

270 new COVID-19 cases take tally to 7,037 in Meghalaya

Shillong: Meghalaya's COVID-19 death toll reached 60 with one more person succumbing to the disease on Tuesday, while 270 new infections took the tally to 7,037, a senior official said.

Health Services Director Aman War said that 115 patients were also cured of the disease, pushing the number of recoveries to 4,606.

The Northeastern state now has 2,371 active cases, he said.

New Delhi: Veteran Congress leader Motilal Vora has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the national capital, sources close to him said. Vora (91) is recovering well and his condition is stated to be stable, they said.

Tripura reports 275 fresh COVID-19 cases, tally 27,308

Agartala: At least 275 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Tripura on Tuesday, pushing the tally in the state to 27,308, a health department official said.

The death toll rose to 298 with two more people succumbing to the infection, he said.

West Tripura district, of which state capital Agartala is a part, has accounted for 161 of the 298 COVID-19 deaths, the official said.

Tripura currently has 4,879 active coronavirus cases, while 22,108 people have recovered from the disease.

Twenty-three patients have migrated to other states, he said.

UP reports 61 more COVID-19 deaths, 3,500 new cases

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh reported 61 more COVID-19 deaths on Tuesday, taking their number to 6,153, while 3,500 new cases pushed the infection tally in the state to 4,20,937.

The number of active cases in the state stands at 44,031, of which 20,647 are in home-isolation, Additional Chief Secretary, Health, Amit Mohan Prasad said.

As many as 3,70,753 patients have fully recovered from the disease and were discharged from hospitals, he said, adding that the recovery rate of the state is at 88.07 per cent.

A day after CBI search, D K Shivakumar's brother Suresh tests COVID positive

Bengaluru: A day after the CBI conducted searches at his premises and that of his brother and state Congress chief D K Shivakumar, Bengaluru Rural MP D K Suresh on Tuesday said he has tested positive for COVID-19.

He has also appealed to all those who had come in contact with him, including CBI officials, to get themselves tested.

"I would like to let you know that I have tested positive for COVID-19. I am asymptomatic and in isolation. I request friends and family who have been in contact with me to test themselves. I also request the CBI officials and media friends who were with me to do the same," Suresh tweeted.

NCLAT suspends court works after some staff members test COVID-19 positive

New Delhi: The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has suspended all its court works, including virtual hearing and filing after some of its staff tested COVID-19 positive.

Earlier, one staff member posted in its record section had tested positive on September 30, which necessitated the suspension of work on October 1 in order to carry out the sanitisation of the NCLAT premises and required judges and other staff to undergo testing.

After that test, four more staff members, out of which three are from the record section, tested positive for COVID-19 on October 4, 2020.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Parents Federation requests state govt not to open the schools before December and restructure the academic calendar for 2020-21, keeping the COVID19 situation in view. Federation wants that decision should be taken after a discussion with all parties involved.

"Odisha govt should assure the parents that students won't get COVID19 infection while attending classes in schools. Then only parents will consider sending their children to school. Why we're being asked to give this assurance," said, Basudev Bhatta, Chairman, Odisha Parents Federation.

Agra records 88.37% recovery rate

Even though Agra has been reporting new cases every day, the recovery rate is above 88 per cent, the state health data has revealed.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in a meeting on Monday evening expressed relief with the state achieving an 87 per cent recovery rate in its battle to combat Covid-19. Speaking at the meeting in Lucknow, Yogi said the state's recovery rate was three per cent more than the national recovery rate of 84 per cent.

Agra recorded 88.37 per cent recovery rate on Monday.

The total number of active cases was 570 now. The city reported 59 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. The number of samples collected now exceeds two lakh (2,01,945). Of the total 6,002 cases, the number of discharged patients is 5,304, while the death toll stands at 128, the health department data has revealed.

The health department has now decided to decentralise the sample collection process. Right now there are only two centres collecting samples. This results in crowding and violation of norms.

Fewer daily tests as cases in Kerala dip to 5,042

On expected lines, Monday saw Kerala's daily COVID positive cases dip to 5,042 and the immediate reason was only 38,696 samples were sent for testing.

The highest single-day tally came on Friday when 9,258 cases turned positive and 63,175 samples were tested.

Over the past months, Mondays generally record lower cases as fewer samples are sent for testing on Sundays.

A statement issued here by state Health Minister K.K. Shailaja said that at present 84,873 active cases were reported on Monday while 1,49,111 people have been cured of the disease.

"Monday saw 4,640 people turned negative and 23 deaths were also reported, taking the death toll to 859. Across the state 2,58,446 people are under observation at various places and includes 30,504 people in hospitals," said Shailaja.

Andhra's toll breaches 6K-mark with 38 more deaths

Thirty-eight new deaths on Monday took Andhra Pradesh's COVID death toll past the 6,000-mark to 6,019.

In the past 24 hours, Andhra Pradesh reported 4,256 new COVID cases, significantly lower than the usual numbers, taking the state's tally to 7.23 lakh.

East Godavari district logged the highest number of cases at 853, followed by Prakasam (666), West Godavari (513), Guntur (444), Nellore (365), Anantapur (271) and Kadapa (231).

Karnataka Education Minister tests positive

Karnataka's Education Minister S. Suresh Kumar on Monday said he has tested positive for coronavirus and had quarantined himself at his home here.

"As I have tested positive for Covid-19, I will be home quarantined for a few days on the advice of doctors. No need to panic as there are no symptoms," he said in a tweet in Kannada.

The 64-year-old Suresh Kumar, who had supervised the secondary school leaving certificate (Class 10) board exams in June-July and in one subject for pre-university course students on June 18, is the latest state minister to be infected by the virus.

Gujarat's toll crosses 3,500, tally reaches 1,44,027

Gujarat's coronavirus death toll on Monday crossed the 3,500 mark to reach 3,512 with 13 new deaths, while the state saw 1,327 more cases, taking its tally to 1,44,027.

In October so far, the state has added 6,633 cases at a daily average of 1,326.

A total of 1,405 patients were discharged on Monday, taking the total to 1,23,770, while the state has 16,745 active cases, out of which 94 critical patients are on ventilator.

Hotspot Surat saw 276 new cases, followed by Ahmedabad with 187, Rajkot with 155, Vadodara with 124 and Jamnagar with 90.

Patan saw 48 cases, Mehsana 43, Gandhinagar 39, Banaskantha 34, Bhavnagar 32, Junagadh 31, Amreli 30, Kutch 27, Morbi 22, Panchmahals 20, Surendranagar 19, Bharuch and Mahisagar 16 each, Gir-Somnath 15, Porbandar, Narmada, Dahod, Sabarkantha, and Anand 11 each, Kheda nine, Navsari, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Botad seven each, Chotta Udepur six, Aravalli five, Tapi four and Valsad three.

COVID-19 LIVE: 48 pc of total COVID-19 deaths concentrated in 25 districts of 8 states: Health Ministry

New Delhi:  With a spike of 61,267 new cases and 884 deaths in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 count on Tuesday reached 66,85,083, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

As per the MoHFW, the count includes 9,19,023 active cases, and 56,62,491 cured and discharged or migrated cases.

With 884 deaths, the toll due to the disease in the country now stands at 1,03,569.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected by the pandemic with 2,52,721 active cases, 11,62,585 cured and discharged cases and 38,347 deaths.

Karnataka with 1,15,496 active cases is the next on the list. While 5,22,846 patients have been cured in the State, the disease has claimed 9,370 lives so far.

Kerala, with 84,958 active cases, is also severely affected, however, 1,49,111 patients have been cured in the State and 859 people have died due to COVID-19.

In Andhra Pradesh, there are 51,060 active cases while 6,66,433 patients have been cured of the disease. Moreover, 6,019 people have succumbed to the virus in the State.

As many as 2,63,938 COVID-19 patients have been cured and discharged in the national capital, which has reported 5,542 deaths so far. Delhi currently has 23,080 active cases.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 8,10,71,797 samples have been tested up to October 5 for COVID-19 in the country. Out of these 10,89,403 samples were tested on Monday.

Agra records 88.37% recovery rate

Even though Agra has been reporting new cases every day, the recovery rate is above 88 per cent, the state health data has revealed.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in a meeting on Monday evening expressed relief with the state achieving an 87 per cent recovery rate in its battle to combat Covid-19. Speaking at the meeting in Lucknow, Yogi said the state's recovery rate was three per cent more than the national recovery rate of 84 per cent.

Agra recorded 88.37 per cent recovery rate on Monday.

The total number of active cases was 570 now. The city reported 59 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. The number of samples collected now exceeds two lakh (2,01,945). Of the total 6,002 cases, the number of discharged patients is 5,304, while the death toll stands at 128, the health department data has revealed.

COVID-19 LIVE: 48 pc of total COVID-19 deaths concentrated in 25 districts of 8 states: Health Ministry

New Delhi:  With a spike of 61,267 new cases and 884 deaths in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 count on Tuesday reached 66,85,083, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

As per the MoHFW, the count includes 9,19,023 active cases, and 56,62,491 cured and discharged or migrated cases.

With 884 deaths, the toll due to the disease in the country now stands at 1,03,569.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected by the pandemic with 2,52,721 active cases, 11,62,585 cured and discharged cases and 38,347 deaths.

Karnataka with 1,15,496 active cases is the next on the list. While 5,22,846 patients have been cured in the State, the disease has claimed 9,370 lives so far.

Kerala, with 84,958 active cases, is also severely affected, however, 1,49,111 patients have been cured in the State and 859 people have died due to COVID-19.

In Andhra Pradesh, there are 51,060 active cases while 6,66,433 patients have been cured of the disease. Moreover, 6,019 people have succumbed to the virus in the State.

As many as 2,63,938 COVID-19 patients have been cured and discharged in the national capital, which has reported 5,542 deaths so far. Delhi currently has 23,080 active cases.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 8,10,71,797 samples have been tested up to October 5 for COVID-19 in the country. Out of these 10,89,403 samples were tested on Monday.
