Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan has tested positive for COVID19. He has requested those who came in his contact to undergo COVID-19 tests.  

"I have tested positive for Covid-19. But, there is no cause for concern. However, I request all those who had contact with me in NewDelhi last week to test for Covid, or be under observation to be on the safe side," Kerala Raj Bhavan PRO quoted Arif Mohammed Khan as saying.

Assam's tally reaches 2,08,389 with 335 new cases 

Assam reported 335 new COVID-19 cases and 926 discharges on Friday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 2,08,389, said State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.  

The total number of cases include 2,00,381 discharges and 938 deaths. The number of active cases stands at 7,067.

Meanwhile, the coronavirus cases in India crossed the 84-lakh, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare's data on Friday.

With 356 new cases, Jharkhand's tally reaches 1,03,899

Jharkhand reported 356 new COVID-19 cases and 401 recoveries on Friday, taking the total number of cases to 1,03,899, said State Health Department.

The total number of cases in the state include 98,365 recoveries, 895 deaths, and 4,639 active cases.

Meanwhile, the coronavirus cases in India crossed the 84-lakh, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare's data on Friday.

Odisha schools to remain closed till December 31

The Odisha government has decided not to reopen schools in the state for the rest of the remaining year.

All schools in Odisha would remain closed till December 31, 2020, due to COVID-19 pandemic, according to the official notice.

Apprehensive about a possible second wave of Covid-19 pandemic may hit the country mid- December, the School and Mass Education (S&ME) department in a notification said: "The state government does hereby direct that all schools in the state shall remain closed till 31 December 2020."

Although, the exams, evaluation and administrative activities will be permitted in the school and online and distance learning will continue in the schools. Teaching or non-teaching staff may be called to schools for online teaching and Tele counselling outside the containment zones.

Telangana reports 1,607 new cases

As many as 1,607 new cases of COVID-19 and 6 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours in Telangana, as per the State Health Department on Saturday.  

With these cases, the COVID-19 tally of the state has reached 2,48,891 including 1,372 deaths, and 19,936 active cases.

Meanwhile, 937 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery tally to 2,27,583 in Telangana.

A total of 17,134 people are in-home or institutional isolation in the state.

With 50,357 new COVID1-9 infections, India's total cases surged to 84,62,081. With 577 new deaths, the toll has mounted to 1,25,562.

COVID-19 LIVE: With over 50,000 new cases, India's tally over 84.62 lakh

New Delhi: With a fresh spike of 50,356 coronavirus infections and 577 deaths in 24 hours, India's tally on Saturday rose to 84,62,080, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Out of the total Covid-19 cases in the country, 5,16,632 are currently active, 78,19,886 have been discharged, and 1,25,562 lost the battle against the pandemic.

While the recovery rate stands at 92.41 per cent, the fatality rate is 1.48 per cent, the data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare showed.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) conducted 11,13,209 sample tests in a single day on Friday, taking the total number of samples tested so far to 11,65,42,304.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit with a total of 17,10,314 cases, including 44,965 deaths; followed by Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

The national capital logged the highest-ever cases of Covid-19 on Friday since the pandemic struck the city. It reported 7,178 new infections, taking Delhi's overall coronavirus tally to 4,28,831, even as the positivity rate stood at 12.19 per cent amid the festive season and rising pollution levels in the city.

Delhi has been recording more than 6,000 Covid-19 cases daily for the last four days. It had earlier witnessed its highest-spike two days ago on Wednesday where it reported 6,842 cases, following which Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal admitted that a 'third wave' of infections had hit the national capital.

The overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped the 49 million mark, while the deaths have surged to more than 12,41,360, according to Johns Hopkins University.

As of Saturday morning, the total caseload and death toll stood at 4,92,28,536 and 12,41,366, respectively, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.

The US is the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 97,27,345 and 2,36,025, respectively, according to the CSSE. India comes in second place in terms of the total cases.
