Chhattisgarh registers record 916 new coronavirus cases

Chhattisgarh witnessed the biggest spike in COVID-19 cases in a single day with 916 people testing positive on Thursday, taking the state's tally to 18,501, a health official said.

The state also reported four more deaths, taking the number of fatalities to 168, he said.

Bihar COVID death toll reaches 574, cases rise to 1.15 lakh

The COVID-19 death toll in Bihar rose to 574 with six fatalities in the past 24 hours, while 2,451 fresh infections took the states coronavirus count to 1,15,209, a health department official said on Thursday.

Altogether 3,585 patients also recovered from the disease since Wednesday, Health department Secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh said.

Jammu and Kashmir reported 683 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday, taking the tally to 30,717, while six more fatalities took the death toll to 578, officials said.

Among the new cases, 114 were from the Jammu region, while 569 were from Kashmir, they said.

West Bengal's COVID-19 tally jumps to 1,29,119 with 3,197 fresh cases

West Bengal's COVID-19 caseload mounted to 1,29,119 on Thursday with the highest single-day spike of 3,197 infections, the state's health department said.

The death toll in the state rose to 2,634 after 53 people succumbed to the virus since Wednesday, it said.

A total of 3,126 patients recovered from the disease during the period, bettering the discharge rate to 76.51 per cent, the department said in a bulletin.

Tamil Nadu COVID-19 recoveries cross 3 lakh mark; nearly 6k fresh cases recorded

COVID-19 recoveries crossed the three lakh mark in Tamil Nadu on Thursday with 5,742 people getting discharged from various hospitals in the state, the health department said. With 5,986 more testings positive for the virus, the aggregate rose to 3.61 lakh so far while 116 more deaths pushed the toll to 6,239.

Tamil Nadu has been consistently recording a robust recovery rate and with today's discharges of 5,742 the cumulative number of those cured rose to 3,01,913.

The active cases, including those in isolation, stood at 53,283, the department said in a bulletin.

Nine more COVID-19 patients died in Uttarakhand on Thursday taking the toll to 187 while the state's pandemic tally rose to 13,636 with411 new coronavirus cases.

Four COVID-19 patients each died at AIIMS, Rishikesh and Sushila Tiwari Government Hospital, Haldwani while one died at the Doon Medical College in Dehradun, a state health department bulletin said.

Rajasthan reported 690 fresh COVID-19 infections and five deaths due to the disease on Thursday, taking the caseload to 65,979 and the number of fatalities to 915, according to an official report. Three deaths were reported from Jaipur and one each from Ajmer and Bikaner. Ajmer recorded the maximum number of fresh coronavirus infections at 138.
Bhilwara district reported 106 fresh cases, followed by Alwar 100, Jaipur 99, Udaipur 82, Nagaur 50, Bundi 38, Jodhpur 36, Chittorgarh 22, and Pratapgarh 19 cases.

The total number of corona cases has reached 2,395, with 104 deaths so far. The number of active cases from 155 containment zones is 293, health officials said on Thursday.

The number of cured is 1,998, indicating a healthy 83.43 per cent recovery rate. Each day the number of samples being tested is going up. So far 86,409 samples have been collected.

With spike of 69,652 cases, India's COVID-19 tally crosses 28 lakh mark

India's coronavirus tally breached the 28 lakh cases mark with 69,652 COVID-19 cases reported in the country in the last 24 hours, informed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

With the latest spike, the total cases stand at 28,36,926 which is inclusive of 6,86,395 active cases while 977 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported in the last 24 hours in India taking the number of deaths to 53,866, it added.

The number of cured/discharged/migrated patients in the country stands at 20,96,665.

As per the Ministry, Maharashtra -- the worst affected state from the infection -- has a total of 1,56,920 active cases, 4,37,870 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated while the state's death toll stands at 20,687.

India scaled a new peak in daily testing as more than 9 lakh COVID-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, informed Union Ministry of Health on Thursday.

The Ministry further stated that the positivity rate has come down to below 8 per cent.

In pursuance of the "Test, Track and Treat" strategy, India is geared up to reach the testing capacity of 10 lakh tests per day.

Bengaluru: Karnataka has registered its highest single day number of coronavirus infections, at 8,642, taking the state's tally to 2.49 lakh, even as 7,201 more patients recovered, a state health official said on Wednesday.

"Today, 8,642 new positive cases were reported and 7,201 people have been discharged," said Health Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey.

Bengaluru Urban continued to account for the highest number of cases (2,804), resulting in the city tally rising to 96,910, out of which 33,280 cases are active.

Shivamogga accounted for 915 infections, followed by Mysuru (562), Ballari (537), Belagavi (379), Udupi (375), Dharwad (253), Dakshina Kannada (234) and Davangere (228).

Meanwhile, 126 more patients succumbed to the virus, taking the state's toll to 4,327. Of the state's 2.49 lakh cases, 81,097 are active including 704 in ICU, while with the new recoveries, the number of people cured has risen to 1.64 lakh.

On Wednesday, Pandey inaugurated a state-level orientation programme aimed at negating stigma and discrimination against coronavirus patients.

He also unveiled some booklets in English and Kannada on COVID appropriate behaviour.
