Himachal Pradesh recorded 317 fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday, taking the infection tally in the state to 13,997.

The COVID-19 death toll in the state rose to 160 with seven more fatalities, officials said.

Madhya Pradesh on Saturday saw 2,311 new coronavirus cases, pushing its case count to 1,19,899, the state health department said.

The death toll in the state due to the pandemic went up to 2,181 with 29 fatalities in the past 24 hours, it said in a statement in the evening.

Sikkim speaker tests positive for COVID-19

Sikkim Assembly Speaker L B Das tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday along with 16 members of his staff and family, officials said.

A total 48 new case, 31 of them from the capital city of Gangtok, were reported during the day increasing the number of active cases in the mountain state to 705.

There was report of one death due to the pandemic, the officials said.

They said eight corona positive cases were reported from among employees of the Samman Bhavan here, which is an office of the chief minister.

Also affected is a doctor on COVID-19 duty, health department sources said.

The sources said 2016 coronavirus affected people have been discharged 2016. The case load stands at 2752 in Sikkim, the sources said.

In the last two days nine health workers have tested positive for COVID19, the health department sources added.

Karnataka reports 8,811 new COVID-19 cases, 86 deaths

Karnataka on Saturday reported 8,811 new COVID-19 cases and 86 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 5,66,023 and the death toll to 8,503, the Health department said.

The day also saw 5,417 patients getting discharged after recovery.

Out of the 8,811 fresh cases reported on Saturday, 4,083 cases were from Bengaluru Urban alone.

As of September 26 evening, cumulatively 5,66,023 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 8,503 deaths and 4,55,719 discharges, the health department said in its bulletin.

TN COVID-19 tally mounts to 5.75 lakh with 5,647 new cases

Tamil Nadu on Saturday reported 5,647 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 5,75,017, while the death toll mounted to 9,233 with 85 fatalities.

Recoveries from COVID-19 were at 5,612, aggregating to 5,19,448 people getting cured so far.

Active cases stood at 46,336, a health department bulletin said.

Eighteen more fatalities were reported in Haryana on Saturday taking the COVID-19 death toll to 1,291, while 1,689 fresh cases pushed the coronavirus tally to 1,22,267 in the state, according to a health department bulletin.

Meghalaya reports highest one-day recovery of 311 COVID patients

Meghalaya recorded the highest single-day recovery of 311 COVID-19 patients on Saturday, taking the number of cured people to 3,654, a senior health department official said.

Fifty-four more people also tested positive for coronavirus, pushing the tally to 5,212, Health Services director Aman War said.

The northeastern state now has 1,515 active cases, he said.

Recovery rate of COVID-19 patients reaches 91.98 per cent in Bihar

The recovery rate of COVID patients in Bihar climbed to 91.98 per cent on Saturday, while 1457 fresh infections took the tally of positive cases to 1,77,354 lakh in the state, health department bulletin said.

Bihar reported five fresh casualties from coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll from COVID to 886.

Keeping up the momentum of higher number of tests for the virus, the state examined a total of 1,50,673 samples in the last 24 hours, the bulletin said.

Over 67.30 lakh samples have been tested across Bihar so far, the bulletin said.

COVID: 54 more deaths, 1,588 new cases in Punjab

Fifty-four more fatalities due to COVID-19 pushed the toll to 3,188 in Punjab while 1,588 new cases took the infection tally to 1,08,684 on Saturday. 

Ten deaths were reported from Mohali, eight from Jalandhar, six each from Ludhiana and Amritsar, five from Patiala, four from Sangrur and three from Pathankot, according to the medical bulletin. 

Two deaths each were reported from Barnala and Gurdaspur and one each from Faridkot, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Kapurthala, Mansa, Moga, Muktsar and Rupnagar.

There are 19,483 active COVID-19 cases in the state, as of now, according to the bulletin. 

A total of 1,988 coronavirus patients were discharged after recovering from infection, taking the number of cured people to 86,013.

AP conducts over 75,000 tests in 24 hours, reports 7,293 new COVID-19 cases

Andhra Pradesh conducted a staggering 75,990 sample tests in 24 hours that returned 7,293 fresh cases of COVID-19, pushing the state's aggregate to 6,68,751.

The latest bulletin said 9,125 patients got cured and discharged from hospitals while 57 more succumbed in 24 hours ending 9 am on Saturday.

The total number of recoveries has touched 5,97,294 and the gross toll 5,663, according to the bulletin.

The number of active coronavirus cases in AP dropped further to 65,794 on Saturday.

Bengal reports 56 more COVID deaths, 3,181 fresh cases

The COVID-19 death toll in West Bengal on Saturday went up to 4,721 with 56 more people succumbing to the disease, the state health department said in a bulletin.

The tally increased to 2,44,240 after 3,181 people tested positive for the infection.

In the last 24 hours, 2,955 patients recovered from coronavirus taking the states discharge rate to 87.61 per cent, the bulletin said.

The number of active patients is now 25,544.

Goa records 503 new COVID-19 cases; tally rises to 31,574

With the addition of 503 fresh infections, the count of COVID-19 cases in Goa rose to 31,574 on Saturday, an official from the health department said.

At least 688 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the number of recoveries in the coastal state to 25,759, the official said.

A total of 1,983 swab samples were tested, of which reports of 503 suspects came out positive for the infection, he said.

Maha adds 20,419 new COVID-19 cases; 23,644 recover, 430 die

Maharashtra's COVID-19 tally rose to 13,21,176 on Saturday with the single-day addition of 20,419 fresh cases, state health department said.

With 430 more patients succumbing to the infection, the cumulative toll in the state went up to 35,191, it said.

A total of 23,644 patients were discharged after treatment in the state in the day, taking the count of recoveries to 10,16,450, the department said.

The state is now left with 2,69,119 active cases.

949 more test COVID-19 positive in U'khand, taking tally to 46,281; death toll 566

The COVID-19 death toll in Uttarakhand rose to 566 on Saturday with 11 more fatalities, while 949 fresh cases pushed the infection tally in the state to 46,281.

A state health department bulletin said, of the fresh cases, Dehradun reported the highest 295 cases, followed by Haridwar 178, Almora 92, Nainital 65, Pauri 80, Udham Singh Nagar 63, Uttarkashi 59, Pithoragarh 48, Champawat 37, Chamoli 15, Tehri 12, Rudraprayag three and Bageshwar two.

Meanwhile, 11 more COVID-19 patients died in the state, taking the death toll to 566, it said.

Gujarat adds 1,417 new COVID-19 cases, 1,419 recover; 13 die

Gujarat on Saturday reported 1,417 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the total count of infections to 1,31,808, state health department said.

With 13 more people succumbing to the infection, the fatality count went up to 3,409, it said.

A total of 1,419 patients were discharged in the state in the day, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,11,909, the department said.

With this, the case recovery rate in the state now stands at 84.90 per cent, it said in a release.

1,217 new COVID-19 cases & 20 deaths recorded in J&K

Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday recorded 1,217 fresh coronavirus cases, while 20 deaths took place in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 71,049 and the death toll to 1,125, officials said.

It was for the 24th consecutive day that the number of fresh cases crossed 1,000 in a 24-hour period.

"The UT recorded 1,217 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, with 720 cases in Jammu and 497 in the Kashmir valley," the officials said.

The cumulative figure of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir has now risen to 71,049.

Jammu district reported the highest number of 301 new cases, followed by 180 in Srinagar district, the officials said.

There are 18,430 active cases in the UT, while 51,494 patients have recovered so far, they said.

Meanwhile, 20 deaths took place in the past 24 hours in Jammu and Kashmir - 12 in Jammu and eight in the valley - taking the death toll to 1,125, the officials said.

COVID-19: Rajasthan records 2,045 fresh cases, 14 deaths

Rajasthan reported 2,045 fresh coronavirus cases on Saturday while the state's death toll due to the infection rose to 1,426 with 14 more fatalities, according to a health department bulletin.

The state's infection tally now stood at 1,26,775.

Kerala adds over 7,000 new COVID-19 cases, 50,000 people under treatment

Kerala's daily COVID-19 graph continues to surge with 7,006 new cases being reported on Saturday, taking the infection count to 1,66,939 and over 50,000 people are presently under treatment, state Health Minister KK Shailaja said.

In the last 24 hours, 58,799 samples have been tested.

The southern state has been witnessing a massive spike in daily cases since the past few days. While 6,477 cases were detected on Friday, it was 6,324 on Thursday and 5,376 on Wednesday.

The toll has climbed to656 with 21more fatalities, the minister said in a press release here.

As many as 3,199 people have recovered from the infection while 1,14,530 have been discharged so far after treatment.

UP reports 4,412 fresh COVID-19 cases, 67 more deaths

As many as 4,412 fresh COVID-19 cases took Uttar Pradesh's infection tally to 3,82,835 on Saturday, while 67 more deaths pushed the toll to 5,517.

There are 57,086 active cases in the state, according to officials.

A total of 4,412 fresh coronavirus cases were reported. The death toll due to the virus has mounted to 5,517, Additional Chief Secretary, Health, Amit Mohan Prasad said.

The number of active patients in the state stands at 57,086. Currently, 29,266 patients are under home isolation, he said.

As many as 3,20,232 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, Prasad said, adding that the state's recovery rate has gone up to 83.64 per cent.

Pondy MLA tests positive for COVID-19

Ruling Congress legislator and chairman of Puducherry Planning Authority T Jayamoorthy tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday.

An official of the Department of Health and Family Welfare told reporters that the legislator tested positive at a government hospital here.

Jayamoorthy would be shifted to a private hospital in Chennai, sources said.

Two of the Ministers of Puducherry and three legislators, including two members of the opposition parties - AINRC and AIADMK - had tested positive a few weeks ago and recovered after treatment in Chennai.

Himachal Pradesh: Rohru MLA tests positive for coronavirus

Himachal Pradesh's Rohru MLA Lal Brakta has become the eighth legislators in the state to have contracted coronavirus.

Congress MLA took to Facebook to share his health status on Saturday.

Brakta said he got himself tested on Friday morning and his report came positive in the night.

So far, six BJP and two Congress MLAs have tested positive for coronavirus in the state.

Brakta in his Facebook post said he had not participated in any public programme in Rohru for the past 12 days so there was no need for people of his constituency to panic.

However, he requested all those who came in his contact in Shimla in the past some days to get themselves tested.

Besides Brakta, the MLAs who tested positive for coronavirus till now are Power Minister Sukhram Chaudhary; Jal Shakti Minister Mahender Singh Thakur; Vinod Kumar Chauhan (Nachan); Rakesh Jamwal (Sundernagar); Reeta Devi (Indora); Lakhwinder Rana (Nalagarh) and Paramjeet Singh (Doon).

10 states, UTs account for 75 pc of new COVID-19 cases, total tests cross 7 cr: Centre

Of the 85,362 new coronavirus cases reported in India in a day, 75 per cent are found concentrated in 10 states and Union Territories, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday.

It also said India has conducted a total of seven crore tests for the detection of coronavirus infection till now with the country's testing capacity having crossed 14 lakh tests daily.

The 10 states and Union Territories from where 75 per cent of the new cases have been reported are Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Delhi, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh.

Maharashtra continues to top this list by accounting for more than 17,000 cases. Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh reported more than 8,000 and 7,000 cases respectively, the ministry said.

Also, Maharashtra, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Chhattisgarh account for 83 per cent of the 1,089 deaths due to COVID-19 registered in a day.

Maharashtra reported 416 deaths in a 24-hour period, followed by Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh with 86 and 84 fatalities, respectively.

At least 278 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Tripura on Saturday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the state to 24,408, a health department official said.

The death toll rose to 265 with three more people succumbing to the infection, he said.

Odisha logs record 4,356 COVID-19 cases, 16 fresh fatalities

Odisha on Saturday registered its highest single-day spike of 4,356 COVID-19 cases, which took the tally to 2,05,452, while 16 fresh fatalities pushed the death toll in the coastal state to 783, a senior health department official said.

Of the 4,356 cases, 2,529 were reported from various quarantine centres, and the rest were detected during contact tracing, the official said.

Khurda district, of which Bhubaneswar is a part, recorded an all-time high of 902 new cases, followed by Cuttack at 409, and Angul at 197.

53 new COVID-19 cases in Arunachal Pradesh; tally rises to 8,671

Arunachal Pradesh's COVID-19 tally rose to 8,671 as 253 more people, including 45 security personnel and five health care workers have tested positive for the virus, a senior health department official said on Saturday.

Of the 153 fresh cases, 116 were reported from the Capital Complex region, West Kameng (37), Changlang (22), Papumpare (13), Lower Subansiri (11) and six cases each from East Siang, Upper Subansiri, Kurung Kumey and Namsai districts, the official said.

Six more die of coronavirus in Pondy, toll touches 500

Six more people, including an 89-year old woman, succumbed to COVID-19 in Puducherry on Saturday taking the toll to 500.

Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release that 555 fresh cases were reported after examination of 5,032 samples during last 24 hours.
He said 424 patients recovered and were discharged during the last 24 hours from hospitals.

The fatality rate was 1.92 per cent while the recovery rate was 77.62 per cent here.

COVID-19: Ladakh records 56 new cases, two more deaths

Ladakh has registered 56 new coronavirus cases and two more fatalities, taking the infection tally to 4,025 and death toll to 56 in the Union Territory, officials said on Saturday.

Seventy-eight more patients were discharged after successful treatment, bringing down the number of active cases in the region to 998, the officials said, quoting a media bulletin released by the directorate of health services, Ladakh.

The two new COVID-related fatalities were reported from Kargil, raising the death toll in the district to 33.

The rest of 23 patients died in Leh district since the outbreak of the disease in March.

Andaman & Nicobar Islands COVID-19 tally rises to 3,759

The COVID-19 caseload of Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 3,759 on Saturday as 15 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said.

Fourteen new COVID-19 patients were detected during contact tracing in the union territory, while one has travel history, he said.

Twenty-five more people have been cured of the disease, the official said.

At least 49 people, including 42 security personnel, have tested positive for coronavirus in Mizoram, taking the state's COVID-19 caseload to 1,835, an official said on Saturday.

Of the 42 security personnel, 27 are Assam Rifles personnel posted in Aizawl and 15 Border Security Force (BSF) jawans stationed in Aizawl and Serchhip districts, the official said.

India's COVID-19 case tally crossed 59-lakh mark with a spike of 85,362 new cases, said Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday.

As many as 1,089 deaths were reported during the same period, taking the toll to 93,379.

As per the Ministry, the total case tally in the country stands at 59,03,932 including 9,60,969 active cases, 48,49,584 cured/discharged/migrated and 93,379 deaths.

Telangana continues to see surge in Covid cases

Telangana recorded 2,239 new COVID-19 cases and 11 related deaths, taking the tally of infections in the state to 1.83 lakh.

The toll rose to 1,091 with 11 more people succumbing to the virus. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 316, followed by Rangareddy 192 and Medchal Malkajgiri 164 districts, a government bulletin said on Saturday, providing data as of 8 PM on September 25.

Maha cases cross 13L-mark, 92K added in just 5 days

Mumbai: Maharashtra added staggering 92,000-plus cases in just five days this week, taking the state's tally above the 13 lakh-mark, though new cases and deaths declined on Friday, health officials said here.

The state recorded 17,794 new cases, lower than the peak single-day tally of 24,886 recorded on September 11, pushing the state's overall tally to 13,00,757 cases till date.

Adding 416 more fatalities, down by 99 from the peak of 515 recorded on September 1, the state's death toll increased to 34,761.

After six days, the state's recovery rate dropped, from 75.86 per cent to 76.33 per cent, while the current mortality rate stood at 2.67 per cent on Friday.

Against this, 19,592 fully recovered patients returned home, taking up the total number of discharges to 992,806 till date, much higher than the 272,775 active cases currently present in the state.

As per Friday's figures, there was one death roughly every 3.46 minutes and 741 new cases added every hour to the state tally.

Of the 416 deaths, Pune led the chart with 56 deaths, followed by Nagpur (53), Mumbai (48), Nashik (42), Kolhapur (31), Sangli (20), Satara (19), Thane and Raigad (18 each), Ahmednagar (16), Jalgaon (15), Palghar (13), Aurangabad and Gondia (8 each), Latur and Amravati (6 each), Solapur and Chandrapur (5 each), Wardha (4), Parbhani, Osmanabad and Bhandara (3 each), Ratnagiri (2 each), Beed, Akola and Washim (2 each) and Nandurbar, Sindhudurg, Jalna and Yavatmal (2 each).

A day after recording 54 deaths, Mumbai again slid to the sub-50 range with 48 fatalities, which took up the city's death toll to 8,706, while the number of Covid-19 cases shot up by 1,876 to 194,303.

Of the total 8 Circles, the situation in Mumbai Circle (MMR, comprising Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad) remains on the edge as deaths spiral and cases pile up.

Fatalities in MMR shot up by 97 on Friday to 15,275, while 4,462 new cases took up its COVID tally to 457,919.

With another 80 fatalities, Pune Circle's (comprising Pune, Solapur and Satara districts) death toll increased to 7,477 while the daily case tally zoomed up by another 4,727 to 345,432.

The number of people sent to home quarantine increased sharply on Friday, from 18,83,912 to 19,29,572 now, while the number of those in institutional quarantine went down from 33,412 to 32,747 on Friday.

COVID: 54 more deaths, 1,588 new cases in Punjab

Fifty-four more fatalities due to COVID-19 pushed the toll to 3,188 in Punjab while 1,588 new cases took the infection tally to 1,08,684 on Saturday. 

Ten deaths were reported from Mohali, eight from Jalandhar, six each from Ludhiana and Amritsar, five from Patiala, four from Sangrur and three from Pathankot, according to the medical bulletin. 

Two deaths each were reported from Barnala and Gurdaspur and one each from Faridkot, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Kapurthala, Mansa, Moga, Muktsar and Rupnagar.

There are 19,483 active COVID-19 cases in the state, as of now, according to the bulletin. 

A total of 1,988 coronavirus patients were discharged after recovering from infection, taking the number of cured people to 86,013.

AP conducts over 75,000 tests in 24 hours, reports 7,293 new COVID-19 cases

Andhra Pradesh conducted a staggering 75,990 sample tests in 24 hours that returned 7,293 fresh cases of COVID-19, pushing the state's aggregate to 6,68,751.

The latest bulletin said 9,125 patients got cured and discharged from hospitals while 57 more succumbed in 24 hours ending 9 am on Saturday.

The total number of recoveries has touched 5,97,294 and the gross toll 5,663, according to the bulletin.

The number of active coronavirus cases in AP dropped further to 65,794 on Saturday.

Bengal reports 56 more COVID deaths, 3,181 fresh cases

The COVID-19 death toll in West Bengal on Saturday went up to 4,721 with 56 more people succumbing to the disease, the state health department said in a bulletin.

The tally increased to 2,44,240 after 3,181 people tested positive for the infection.

In the last 24 hours, 2,955 patients recovered from coronavirus taking the states discharge rate to 87.61 per cent, the bulletin said.

The number of active patients is now 25,544.

Goa records 503 new COVID-19 cases; tally rises to 31,574

With the addition of 503 fresh infections, the count of COVID-19 cases in Goa rose to 31,574 on Saturday, an official from the health department said.

At least 688 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the number of recoveries in the coastal state to 25,759, the official said.

A total of 1,983 swab samples were tested, of which reports of 503 suspects came out positive for the infection, he said.

Maha adds 20,419 new COVID-19 cases; 23,644 recover, 430 die

Maharashtra's COVID-19 tally rose to 13,21,176 on Saturday with the single-day addition of 20,419 fresh cases, state health department said.

With 430 more patients succumbing to the infection, the cumulative toll in the state went up to 35,191, it said.

A total of 23,644 patients were discharged after treatment in the state in the day, taking the count of recoveries to 10,16,450, the department said.

The state is now left with 2,69,119 active cases.

949 more test COVID-19 positive in U'khand, taking tally to 46,281; death toll 566

The COVID-19 death toll in Uttarakhand rose to 566 on Saturday with 11 more fatalities, while 949 fresh cases pushed the infection tally in the state to 46,281.

A state health department bulletin said, of the fresh cases, Dehradun reported the highest 295 cases, followed by Haridwar 178, Almora 92, Nainital 65, Pauri 80, Udham Singh Nagar 63, Uttarkashi 59, Pithoragarh 48, Champawat 37, Chamoli 15, Tehri 12, Rudraprayag three and Bageshwar two.

Meanwhile, 11 more COVID-19 patients died in the state, taking the death toll to 566, it said.

Gujarat adds 1,417 new COVID-19 cases, 1,419 recover; 13 die

Gujarat on Saturday reported 1,417 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the total count of infections to 1,31,808, state health department said.

With 13 more people succumbing to the infection, the fatality count went up to 3,409, it said.

A total of 1,419 patients were discharged in the state in the day, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,11,909, the department said.

With this, the case recovery rate in the state now stands at 84.90 per cent, it said in a release.

1,217 new COVID-19 cases & 20 deaths recorded in J&K

Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday recorded 1,217 fresh coronavirus cases, while 20 deaths took place in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 71,049 and the death toll to 1,125, officials said.

It was for the 24th consecutive day that the number of fresh cases crossed 1,000 in a 24-hour period.

"The UT recorded 1,217 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, with 720 cases in Jammu and 497 in the Kashmir valley," the officials said.

The cumulative figure of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir has now risen to 71,049.

Jammu district reported the highest number of 301 new cases, followed by 180 in Srinagar district, the officials said.

There are 18,430 active cases in the UT, while 51,494 patients have recovered so far, they said.

Meanwhile, 20 deaths took place in the past 24 hours in Jammu and Kashmir - 12 in Jammu and eight in the valley - taking the death toll to 1,125, the officials said.

COVID-19: Rajasthan records 2,045 fresh cases, 14 deaths

Rajasthan reported 2,045 fresh coronavirus cases on Saturday while the state's death toll due to the infection rose to 1,426 with 14 more fatalities, according to a health department bulletin.

The state's infection tally now stood at 1,26,775.

Kerala adds over 7,000 new COVID-19 cases, 50,000 people under treatment

Kerala's daily COVID-19 graph continues to surge with 7,006 new cases being reported on Saturday, taking the infection count to 1,66,939 and over 50,000 people are presently under treatment, state Health Minister KK Shailaja said.

In the last 24 hours, 58,799 samples have been tested.

The southern state has been witnessing a massive spike in daily cases since the past few days. While 6,477 cases were detected on Friday, it was 6,324 on Thursday and 5,376 on Wednesday.

The toll has climbed to656 with 21more fatalities, the minister said in a press release here.

As many as 3,199 people have recovered from the infection while 1,14,530 have been discharged so far after treatment.

UP reports 4,412 fresh COVID-19 cases, 67 more deaths

As many as 4,412 fresh COVID-19 cases took Uttar Pradesh's infection tally to 3,82,835 on Saturday, while 67 more deaths pushed the toll to 5,517.

There are 57,086 active cases in the state, according to officials.

A total of 4,412 fresh coronavirus cases were reported. The death toll due to the virus has mounted to 5,517, Additional Chief Secretary, Health, Amit Mohan Prasad said.

The number of active patients in the state stands at 57,086. Currently, 29,266 patients are under home isolation, he said.

As many as 3,20,232 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, Prasad said, adding that the state's recovery rate has gone up to 83.64 per cent.

Pondy MLA tests positive for COVID-19

Ruling Congress legislator and chairman of Puducherry Planning Authority T Jayamoorthy tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday.

An official of the Department of Health and Family Welfare told reporters that the legislator tested positive at a government hospital here.

Jayamoorthy would be shifted to a private hospital in Chennai, sources said.

Two of the Ministers of Puducherry and three legislators, including two members of the opposition parties - AINRC and AIADMK - had tested positive a few weeks ago and recovered after treatment in Chennai.

Himachal Pradesh: Rohru MLA tests positive for coronavirus

Himachal Pradesh's Rohru MLA Lal Brakta has become the eighth legislators in the state to have contracted coronavirus.

Congress MLA took to Facebook to share his health status on Saturday.

Brakta said he got himself tested on Friday morning and his report came positive in the night.

So far, six BJP and two Congress MLAs have tested positive for coronavirus in the state.

Brakta in his Facebook post said he had not participated in any public programme in Rohru for the past 12 days so there was no need for people of his constituency to panic.

However, he requested all those who came in his contact in Shimla in the past some days to get themselves tested.

Besides Brakta, the MLAs who tested positive for coronavirus till now are Power Minister Sukhram Chaudhary; Jal Shakti Minister Mahender Singh Thakur; Vinod Kumar Chauhan (Nachan); Rakesh Jamwal (Sundernagar); Reeta Devi (Indora); Lakhwinder Rana (Nalagarh) and Paramjeet Singh (Doon).

10 states, UTs account for 75 pc of new COVID-19 cases, total tests cross 7 cr: Centre

Of the 85,362 new coronavirus cases reported in India in a day, 75 per cent are found concentrated in 10 states and Union Territories, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday.

It also said India has conducted a total of seven crore tests for the detection of coronavirus infection till now with the country's testing capacity having crossed 14 lakh tests daily.

The 10 states and Union Territories from where 75 per cent of the new cases have been reported are Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Delhi, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh.

Maharashtra continues to top this list by accounting for more than 17,000 cases. Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh reported more than 8,000 and 7,000 cases respectively, the ministry said.

Also, Maharashtra, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Chhattisgarh account for 83 per cent of the 1,089 deaths due to COVID-19 registered in a day.

Maharashtra reported 416 deaths in a 24-hour period, followed by Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh with 86 and 84 fatalities, respectively.

At least 278 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Tripura on Saturday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the state to 24,408, a health department official said.

Odisha logs record 4,356 COVID-19 cases, 16 fresh fatalities

Odisha on Saturday registered its highest single-day spike of 4,356 COVID-19 cases, which took the tally to 2,05,452, while 16 fresh fatalities pushed the death toll in the coastal state to 783, a senior health department official said.

Of the 4,356 cases, 2,529 were reported from various quarantine centres, and the rest were detected during contact tracing, the official said.

Khurda district, of which Bhubaneswar is a part, recorded an all-time high of 902 new cases, followed by Cuttack at 409, and Angul at 197.

53 new COVID-19 cases in Arunachal Pradesh; tally rises to 8,671

Arunachal Pradesh's COVID-19 tally rose to 8,671 as 253 more people, including 45 security personnel and five health care workers have tested positive for the virus, a senior health department official said on Saturday.

Of the 153 fresh cases, 116 were reported from the Capital Complex region, West Kameng (37), Changlang (22), Papumpare (13), Lower Subansiri (11) and six cases each from East Siang, Upper Subansiri, Kurung Kumey and Namsai districts, the official said.

Six more die of coronavirus in Pondy, toll touches 500

Six more people, including an 89-year old woman, succumbed to COVID-19 in Puducherry on Saturday taking the toll to 500.

Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release that 555 fresh cases were reported after examination of 5,032 samples during last 24 hours.
He said 424 patients recovered and were discharged during the last 24 hours from hospitals.

The fatality rate was 1.92 per cent while the recovery rate was 77.62 per cent here.

COVID-19: Ladakh records 56 new cases, two more deaths

Ladakh has registered 56 new coronavirus cases and two more fatalities, taking the infection tally to 4,025 and death toll to 56 in the Union Territory, officials said on Saturday.

Seventy-eight more patients were discharged after successful treatment, bringing down the number of active cases in the region to 998, the officials said, quoting a media bulletin released by the directorate of health services, Ladakh.

The two new COVID-related fatalities were reported from Kargil, raising the death toll in the district to 33.

The rest of 23 patients died in Leh district since the outbreak of the disease in March.

Andaman & Nicobar Islands COVID-19 tally rises to 3,759

The COVID-19 caseload of Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 3,759 on Saturday as 15 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said.

Fourteen new COVID-19 patients were detected during contact tracing in the union territory, while one has travel history, he said.

Twenty-five more people have been cured of the disease, the official said.

At least 49 people, including 42 security personnel, have tested positive for coronavirus in Mizoram, taking the state's COVID-19 caseload to 1,835, an official said on Saturday.

With spike of 85,362 new cases, India's COVID-19 tally crosses 59-lakh mark

India's COVID-19 case tally crossed 59-lakh mark with a spike of 85,362 new cases, said Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday.

As many as 1,089 deaths were reported during the same period, taking the toll to 93,379.

As per the Ministry, the total case tally in the country stands at 59,03,932 including 9,60,969 active cases, 48,49,584 cured/discharged/migrated and 93,379 deaths.

Telangana continues to see surge in Covid cases

Telangana recorded 2,239 new COVID-19 cases and 11 related deaths, taking the tally of infections in the state to 1.83 lakh.

The toll rose to 1,091 with 11 more people succumbing to the virus. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 316, followed by Rangareddy 192 and Medchal Malkajgiri 164 districts, a government bulletin said on Saturday, providing data as of 8 PM on September 25.

Maha cases cross 13L-mark, 92K added in just 5 days

Mumbai: Maharashtra added staggering 92,000-plus cases in just five days this week, taking the state's tally above the 13 lakh-mark, though new cases and deaths declined on Friday, health officials said here.

The state recorded 17,794 new cases, lower than the peak single-day tally of 24,886 recorded on September 11, pushing the state's overall tally to 13,00,757 cases till date.

Adding 416 more fatalities, down by 99 from the peak of 515 recorded on September 1, the state's death toll increased to 34,761.

After six days, the state's recovery rate dropped, from 75.86 per cent to 76.33 per cent, while the current mortality rate stood at 2.67 per cent on Friday.

Against this, 19,592 fully recovered patients returned home, taking up the total number of discharges to 992,806 till date, much higher than the 272,775 active cases currently present in the state.

As per Friday's figures, there was one death roughly every 3.46 minutes and 741 new cases added every hour to the state tally.

Of the 416 deaths, Pune led the chart with 56 deaths, followed by Nagpur (53), Mumbai (48), Nashik (42), Kolhapur (31), Sangli (20), Satara (19), Thane and Raigad (18 each), Ahmednagar (16), Jalgaon (15), Palghar (13), Aurangabad and Gondia (8 each), Latur and Amravati (6 each), Solapur and Chandrapur (5 each), Wardha (4), Parbhani, Osmanabad and Bhandara (3 each), Ratnagiri (2 each), Beed, Akola and Washim (2 each) and Nandurbar, Sindhudurg, Jalna and Yavatmal (2 each).

A day after recording 54 deaths, Mumbai again slid to the sub-50 range with 48 fatalities, which took up the city's death toll to 8,706, while the number of Covid-19 cases shot up by 1,876 to 194,303.

Of the total 8 Circles, the situation in Mumbai Circle (MMR, comprising Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad) remains on the edge as deaths spiral and cases pile up.

Fatalities in MMR shot up by 97 on Friday to 15,275, while 4,462 new cases took up its COVID tally to 457,919.

With another 80 fatalities, Pune Circle's (comprising Pune, Solapur and Satara districts) death toll increased to 7,477 while the daily case tally zoomed up by another 4,727 to 345,432.

The number of people sent to home quarantine increased sharply on Friday, from 18,83,912 to 19,29,572 now, while the number of those in institutional quarantine went down from 33,412 to 32,747 on Friday.

Two days after the Centre took note of Maharashtra's unique 'My Family, My Responsibility' COVID campaign, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced that this will be taken to the next level of creating a 'Health Map' of Maharashtra for a healthier and happier population.
