4 UP private hospitals served notices after 48 COVID deaths

Lucknow: The Lucknow administration has served notices to four private hospitals for laxity in treating COVID patients after reports of 48 patients who were referred to these hospitals died.

Chandan Hospital, Mayo hospital, Charak hospital and Apollo hospital have been found guilty of delay in starting treatment in holding/isolation area, conducting COVID tests and shifting patients to COVID wards. The notices have been issued under the Epidemic Diseases Act and they have been asked to respond within 24 hours.

Agra reports 104 fresh Covid cases

Agra: The Agra region continues to battle Covid-19 spread in the past 24 hours, 104 fresh cases of the coronavirus were reported and one death.
The total number of cases now, according to the District Magistrate P.N. Singh is 5,229. So far 4,153 have been discharged after recovery and the number of active cases stands at 956. Officials said 579 were in home isolation.

DMDK leader Vijayakant tests positive for coronavirus

Chennai:  Actor-turned-politician and DMDK founder A.Vijayakant has tested positive for coronavirus and his condition is stable, said a private hospital where he has been admitted. In a statement issued the hospital, MIOT International said Vijayakant tested positive for Covid-19 on 22.9.2020.

"He is completely stable and admitted in MIOT Hospitals, Chennai. He is expected to make full recovery and should be ready for discharge soon," the hospital Managing Director Prithvi Mohandas said. DMDK is part of the ruling AIADMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu.

Puducherry adds 668 fresh COVID-19 cases, overall tally rises to 24,895

Puducherry:  Puducherry on Thursday logged 668 new COVID-19 cases taking the overall tally to 24,895, a top Health department official said. As many six patients including four women succumbed to the infection during the last 24 hours ending 10 am today taking the toll to 487, Director of Health and Family Welfare, S Mohan Kumar said.

The 668 new cases were identified at the end of the examination of 5,945 samples, he added. Of the 24,895 coronavirus cases in the union territory, there were 5,097 active cases while 19,311 patients had recovered and were discharged apart from 487 fatalities. The Health Department Director said so far 1,55,025 samples were tested and of the 1,25,215 samples tested negative.

COVID-19 tally reaches 8K-mark in Arunachal with highest one-day spike of 289 cases

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday reported its highest single-day spike of 289 COVID-19 cases, which took the tally in the northeastern state to 8,133, a senior health department official said.

Barring 21, all new patients are asymptomatic and have been shifted to COVID-19 care centres, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr L Jampa said."Ten security personnel -- six from the Assam Rifles, two from the Indo Tibetan Border Police, one each from the Army and the Indian Reserve Battalion -- are among the new patients," the SSO said.

India's COVID19 case tally crosses 57-lakh mark

India's COVID19 case tally crosses 57-lakh mark with a spike of 86,508 new cases & 1,129 deaths in last 24 hours. Out of the total cases, 9,66,382 are currently active, 46,74,987 have been discharged, while 91,149 lost the battle against the viral disease. Continuing with its record, India posted 81.55 per cent of recoveries while the fatality rate stood at 1.59 per cent, the data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.

Maharashtra continued to be the worst-hit with a total of 12,63,799 cases, including 33,886 deaths; followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh.According to the data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), India conducted 11,56,569 sample tests in a single day on Wednesday, taking the total number of samples tested so far to 6,74,36,031.

COVID-19: International travellers to be tested by RAT on arrival for home isolation, says Punjab Minister

Chandigarh: International travellers, who do not submit a negative COVID-19 test report on arrival at Airport in India, will be tested by Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) kits for the infection, said Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu. If Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) comes negative for COVID-19, Sidhu said that the person may opt for home quarantine.

After tested by RAT, these people will get tested for COVID-19 on the fifth day of arrival by RT-PCR as per protocol in their respective districts. When reports come and if they test negative, their home quarantine will end. "They will self monitor their health for the next 7 days and report if any symptoms develop. If RT-PCR for COVID -19 is found to be positive, they shall be assessed clinically and follow the Punjab COVID-19 management protocol," the statement quoted Sidhu as saying.

Sidhu further said that if RAT comes positive for COVID-19, the person may opt for home isolation/government isolation facility or private facility on payment basis and will be treated as per COVID-19 management protocol. He said that person opting for home isolation will submit a consent form stating that he has a facility for home isolation at his residence and he is asymptomatic/mild-symptomatic and not have any morbidity or the comorbid condition is under control.

As per guidelines, Sidhu said that all international travellers arriving in Punjab through Air/Road travel will submit self-declaration with personal and health details at www.newdelhiairport.in and hand over a copy of the same to State officers. He said that travellers would also be screened as per the health protocol at the port of entry. The Minister clarified that travellers will follow all precautionary measures issued by the Government of Punjab for prevention of COVID-19 spread such as hand hygiene, wearing a mask, and maintain social distancing etc.

Karnataka's COVID tally crosses 5.4-lakh with 6,997 new cases

Bengaluru:  With 6,997 new cases across the state, Karnataka's Covid-19 tally touched 5,40,847 on Wednesday while active cases rose to 94,652. "With 5,460 discharged during the last 24 hours, the number of recoveries rose to 4,37,910 so far across the state, while 8,266 succumbed to the virus, including 38 in the last 24 hours," said the state health bulletin here.

Bengaluru registered 3,547 fresh cases, taking its tally to 2,04,275 till date, including 39,971 active cases, while 3,536 were discharged in the last 24 hours and 4,37,910 since March 8 when the pandemic broke in the state. With 23 deaths due to the infection during the day, the toll rose to 2,738 so far.

"Of the 816 patients in the intensive care unit (ICU), 259 are in Bengaluru Urban district, followed by Dharwad 93, Ballari 74, Hassan 62 and Kalaburagi 39," said the bulletin. Among the districts, Mysuru reported 341 new cases, Hassan 315, Chikkamagaluru 252, Mandya 203, Shivamogga 187 and Dakshina Kannada 186. Of the discharges in districts, 480 were from Hassan, followed by Shivamogga 274, Bengaluru Rural 221, Yadgir 189, Chitradurga 181 and Chikkamagaluru 162.

Gujarat sees 1,372 new coronavirus cases, 15 deaths

Gandhinagar: Gujarat on Wednesday saw 1,372 new coronavirus cases, taking its tally to 1,27,541, while the death toll rose to 3,370 as 15 more patients succumbed. In September so far, Gujarat has seen 31,106 new cases with an average of 1,352 daily. 

Meanwhile, 1,289 patients were discharged, taking the total to 1,07,701, while the state has 16,470 active cases, out of which 86 critical patients are on ventilator. Of Wednesday's cases, Surat led with 294, followed by Ahmedabad with 185, Rajkot with 141, Vadodara with 134 and Jamnagar with 94.

Banaskantha saw 51 new cases, Mehsana 45, Gandhinagar and Junagadh 38 each, Bhavnagar 37, Amreli, Kutch, and Panchmahals 27 each, Morbi 26, Bharuch, Patan, and Surendranagar 22 each, Sabarkantha 18, Kheda 14, Gir-Somnath and Mahisagar 13 each, Dahod 12, Narmada 11, Botad nine, Devbhumi Dwarka and Aravalli eight each, Anand, Tapi, Valsad, and Porbandar seven each, Chotta Udepur five and Navsari three.

Four deaths were reported from Surat, three each from Ahmedabad and Vadodara, two each from Rajkot and Bhavnagar and one from Morbi. This takes the total coronavirus deaths in Ahmedabad to 1,791, while 740 have died in Surat, 169 in Vadodara, 129 in Rajkot, 74 in Gandhinagar, and 63 in Bhavnagar. Health authorities have so far conducted 39,86,370 RT-PCR tests, while there are 6,20,385 people under quarantine - 6,19,966 at home and 419 in government facilities.

2,061 inmates, 421 jail staff test COVID-19 positive in Maharashtra prisons  

Mumbai : As many as 2,061 inmates and 421 jail staff have been tested positive for COVID-19 in Maharashtra prisons so far, according to the state Prison Department on Wednesday.

Six inmates and five jail staff have succumbed to the disease till Wednesday. The highest number of positive cases has been reported at Pune's Yerawada Central Prison, where 261 inmates and 43 staff tested positive for the disease. Meanwhile, 1,767 inmates and 372 jail staff recovered from the infection and have been discharged as well.

The department has conducted COVID-19 tests of 14,597 inmates and 2,543 jails staff.  A total of 21,029 new COVID-19 cases and 479 deaths were reported in Maharashtra on Wednesday, taking the total number of cases to 12,63,799 in the state.

According to the data, as many as 19,476 recovered cases were also reported in the state on Wednesday. The state health department informed that the total number of cases in Maharashtra includes 2,73,477 active cases, 9,56,030 discharges, and 33,886 deaths.

Puducherry adds 668 fresh COVID-19 cases, overall tally rises to 24,895

Puducherry:  Puducherry on Thursday logged 668 new COVID-19 cases taking the overall tally to 24,895, a top Health department official said. 2,061 inmates, 421 jail staff test COVID-19 positive in Maharashtra prisons  

Mumbai : As many as 2,061 inmates and 421 jail staff have been tested positive for COVID-19 in Maharashtra prisons so far, according to the state Prison Department on Wednesday.

Six inmates and five jail staff have succumbed to the disease till Wednesday. The highest number of positive cases has been reported at Pune's Yerawada Central Prison, where 261 inmates and 43 staff tested positive for the disease. Meanwhile, 1,767 inmates and 372 jail staff recovered from the infection and have been discharged as well.
