Bengaluru: 160-bedded COVID Care Centre ready at HAL

The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited Friday handed over a 160-bedded COVID Care Centre facility set up at their Old Airport Road campus to the BBMP. 

The facility set up at Ghatage Convention Centre within the HAL campus is also equipped with supporting infrastructures like toilets, bathrooms and other essential rooms. 

According to HAL Chairman and Managing Director R Madhavan, the facility was created in 16 days. 

"Initially, the facility would be utilized for the treatment of asymptomatic COVID-19 positive patients," Alok Verma, Director (Human Resources) said. 
Further, HAL stated that it produced 300 aerosol boxes that have been handed over to various state governments like Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Gujarat to be used in hospitals during the ongoing pandemic situation.

140 Tirupati temple staff members test positive

As many as 140 staff members of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) that governs Lord Venkateswara’s shrine at Tirumala in Andhra Pradesh have tested positive since June 11.

The temple was re-opened on that date due to the coronavirus lockdown, a top functionary of TTD said.

Of the 140 affected, 70 were discharged and the rest being provided treatment, he said.

However, the TTD would continue to allow entry of devotees less than 12,000 in number into the temple daily, he added.

Karnataka reports 3,693 fresh cases 

A total of 3,693 fresh cases and 115 deaths were reported in Karnataka. 

Of the total number of new cases, 2,208 cases and 75 deaths were in Bengaluru alone.

Delhi reports 1,462 new cases 

A total of 1,462 new cases pushed Delhi's infection tally to over 1,20,107 in the last 24 hours. 

As many as 26 deaths, took the toll to 3,541. The tally includes 99,301 recovered/cured and 17,235 active cases.

Central team to visit Bihar to monitor situation

A central health team headed by Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will be visiting Bihar to monitor the coronavirus situation in view of rising cases in the state. 

The team will extend all necessary help to the state government.

10 new coronavirus cases in Dharavi 

A total of 10 new cases in Dharavi took the total number of cases in the Mumbai region to 2,438 including 102 active cases.

Mumbai IPS officer tests positive

A senior IPS officer has tested positive and his office in the Mumbai police commissionerate compound will be sanitised, an official said.

The officer was actively involved in efforts to combat the outbreak and his driver, as well as a couple of staff members, had earlier been detected with the infection, he added.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner on home quarantine after driver tests positive

Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao confirmed that he is under home quarantine after his driver tested positive for Covid-19.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote, "My driver is tested Corona positive, I have home quarantined myself for 4 days and will get myself tested again on Monday for the fifth time since 3 months."

BBMP issues separate protocol for burial of COVID-19 positive, suspected patients

In a bid to facilitate the early release of dead bodies for cremation or burial, Bengaluru's local civic body the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) issued a separate protocol for suspected and confirmed COVID-19 deaths.

According to the order issued by BBMP Commissioner BH Anil Kumar, all crematoriums, burial grounds in Bengaluru city should accept dead bodies irrespective of the zone in which the patient resided.

Further, the BBMP directed crematoriums and burial grounds in the city to function from 9 am to 8 pm every day till further notice.

Bharat Biotech starts human trial of its anti-COVID vaccine at PGI Rohtak

The human trial of Bharat Biotech's anti-COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin began at Rohtak's Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij tweeted.

"Human trial with Corona vaccine (COVAXIN) of Bharat Biotech started at PGI Rohtak today,"  said Vij.

Tamil Nadu Minister Nilofer Kafeel tests positive for coronavirus

Tamil Nadu Labour Minister Nilofer Kafeel has tested positive for coronavirus, becoming the fourth minister in the state to get affected. Chief Minister K Palaniswami on Friday wished her a speedy recovery.

Kafeel holds the portfolios, including labour, urban and rural employment and the Wakf Board.

After learning that Kafeel tested positive for the virus, Palaniswami said he spoke to her over the phone and enquired about her health.

Coronavirus cases cross the 10 lakh mark in India with the highest single-day spike of 34,956 cases and 687 deaths. 

Total positive cases stand at 10,03,832 including 3,42,473 active cases, 6,35,757 cured/discharged/migrated and 25,602 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Over 20K COVID cases in Assam now, death toll 50

Assam crossed the 20,000 mark with 892 new COVID-19 cases and the death toll due to the infection reached 50 with two deaths on Thursday, Minister for Health and Family Welfare Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The total positive cases in the state reached 20,646 and out of the new cases, 598 patients are from Kamrup Metropolitan district which include 184 from Guwahati Central Jail, the minister said.

Two male COVID-19 patients, aged 63 and 50 years and hailing from Kamrup Metropolitan district and Baksa respectively, died due to the infection, taking the total death toll in the state due to the disease to 50.

Record one-day jump of 1,690 COVID-19 cases takes Bengal tally to 36,117

West Bengal recorded 1,690 fresh COVID-19 cases, the state's biggest single-day spike in infections, pushing the coronavirus count to 36,117 on Thursday, the health department said.

At least 23 people have succumbed to the infection since Wednesday evening, raising the death toll to 1,023, the department said in its bulletin.

Of the 23 deaths, 22 were due to comorbidities where COVID-19 was incidental, it said.

Kolkata accounted for 12 deaths, while North 24 Parganas recorded seven, Hooghly two and one each in Howrah and Darjeeling districts, the bulletin said.

The number of active COVID-19 cases currently stands at 13,679 in the state.

New Delhi: The total number of Coronavirus cases in India have reached the one million mark on Friday. 

The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients has increased to 63.24 per cent. While the recoveries to deaths ratio is 96.09 per cent: 3.91 per cent now, said Government of India on Thursday.  

The total number of COVID-19 cases includes 3,31,146 active cases, 6,12,815 cured/discharged/migrated and 24,915 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
