101 students of Tibetan school test positive in Himachal

Himachal Pradesh on Saturday recorded 330 new Covid-19 cases, including 101 students of a Tibetan school boarding in Mandi district, taking the state's tally to 24,569, officials said.

The death toll in the state spiked to 362 with three patients succumbing to the virus in Shimla, Solan and Una districts.

Among the 155 people tested positive in Mandi district, 104 were school students.

They comprised 101 hostelers of Tibetan Children's Village School in Chauntra and three of a government school.

Rebel JD-U leader in Bihar poll fray dies in Patna

While the three-phase Bihar assembly elections are slated to come to a close on Saturday evening, an independent candidate in the poll fray from Benipatti segment in Madhubani district died of coronavirus at AIIMS here.

Sanjay Jha died at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences where he was admitted for the last 10 days.

Jha, a former Janata Dal-United leader, rebelled against the party after denial of ticket from Benipatti.

Reports said a 45-year-old woman was mowed down by a speeding car in Supaul district on Saturday morning while she was returning after casting her vote. The accident occurred in area in the jurisdiction of Lalit Gram police post on National Highway-57.

Meanwhile, Congress Rajya Sabha member and AICC incharge of Bihar affairs, Shaktisinh Gohil tested positive for coronavirus after an RT-PCR test. Gohil tweeted on Saturday: "I will fight coronavirus too with your blessings. Nothing to worry about."

532 fresh cases in J&K, tally crosses 98K

Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on Saturday reported 532 new Covid-19 cases, pushing the tally to 98,337, health officials said.

Officials said that out of the 532 fresh infections, 208 are from Jammu division and 324 from Kashmir division, while 688 were discharged from different hospitals after recoveries.

So far, 91,225 have recovered completely in J&K.

At least 1,528 patients have so far succumbed to Covid-19.

The number of active cases is 5,584 out of which 1,510 are from Jammu division and 4,074 from Kashmir division.

6,953 new cases take Delhi's  tally to 4,30,784

The national capital on Saturday witnessed a slight drop in new coronavirus cases as it logged 6,953 infections, taking the overall tally to 4,30,784.

On Friday, the city had recorded 7,178 new cases, the highest ever single-day tally since the pandemic struck the city. Delhi has been recording more than 6,000 daily Covid-19 cases for the last five days.

According to Delhi government data, as many as 6,338 people recovered and 79 died in the last 24 hours. Till now, 3,83,614 people have recovered, 40,258 people have an active infection, and 6,912 people have died so far. The case fatality rate stands at 0.85 per cent.

About 57,433 Covid-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. In total, 50,490,20 tests have been conducted so far in the national capital.

The positivity rate, which is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the tests conducted, is also increasing and has mounted to 12.11 per cent.

Andhra records 2K more cases; tally 8.4 lakh

Andhra Pradesh reported 2,367 new Covid positive cases, pushing the state's tally to 8.4 lakh, even as 2,747 more patients recovered in the state to outnumber infections on Saturday.

East Godavari accounted for the highest number of infections, 386, in the past 24 hours, followed by West Godavari (361), Krishna (358), Chittoor (255), Guntur (226) and Nellore (153).

Among other places, Visakhapatnam (135), Kadapa (131), Srikakulam (102), Prakasam (84), Vizianagaram (78), Anantapur (61) and Kurnool (37).

With the new additions, Guntur's tally is inching towards the 70,000 mark while Kurnool's is close to the 60,000 mark.

East Godavari continues to shoulder the highest number of cases at 1.18 lakh.

Meanwhile, 11 more patients have succumbed to the virus in the past 24 hours, raising the total number death toll to 6,779.

Chittoor continues to be the district which has witnessed the highest number of Covid deaths, 794, and approaching the 800 mark.

Maha: Deaths in MMR cross 18K, state toll zooms past 45K

Covid-19 deaths crossed 18,000 in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and 45,000 for Maharashtra even as the daily fatalities remained high with active cases falling below 1 lakh, health officials said here on Saturday.

The state witnessed 150 deaths - compared with the peak tally of 515 - and the state's fatalities shot past 45,000, from 44,965 to 45,115 now.

The state recorded 3,959 fresh cases - much lower that the peak single-day tally of 24,886 - and the state tally shot up from 17,10,314 to 17,14,273 cases till date.

On the positive side, the state recovery rate increased from 91.35 per cent to 91.53 per cent - while the current mortality rate remained stable at 2.63 per cent.

Simultaneously, another lot of 6,748 fully recovered patients returned home - taking the total from 15,62,342 to 15,69,090 till date - much higher than the 99,151 active cases currently in the state, which dropped below 1 lakh for the first time.

Of the 150 deaths, Pune led the state with 38 fatalities, 32 in Satara, 23 in Mumbai, 16 in Thane, 7 in Nashik, 6 each in Solapur and Sangli, 4 in Nanded, 3 each in Yavatmal and Nagpur, 2 in Latur, 1 each in Raigad, Ahmednagar, Dhule, Jalgaon, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri, Aurangabad, Beed, Bhandara and Chandrapur.

COVID-19 LIVE: India crosses 85-lakh mark

New Delhi: India's COVID-19 caseload went past 85 lakh, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 78,68,968 pushing the national recovery rate to 92.49 per cent, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday.

The total coronavirus cases mounted to85,07,754with 45,674infections being reported in a day, while the death toll climbed to1,26,121 with 559 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The case fatality rate stands at 1.48 per cent.

The number of active cases of COVID-19 remained below 6 lakh for the tenth consecutive day.

There are5,12,665active cases of coronavirus infection in the country as on data which comprises 6.03 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7,30 lakhonAugust 23 and 40 lakh on September 5.

It went past 50 lakh on September 16,60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11 and crossed 80 lakh on October 29.

According to the ICMR, accumulative total of 11,77,36,791 samples have been tested up to November 7 with11,94,487 samples being tested on Saturday.
