India's COVID-19 cases per lakh people is one of the lowest in the world despite its high population density, and the recovery rate has now reached almost 56 per cent, the Union health ministry said. 

For every one lakh population, there are 30.04 coronavirus cases in India, while the global average is over three times at 114.67, the ministry said, referring to the WHO Situation Report 153, dated June 21.

India's recovery rate stands at 55.77%

The Health Ministry said that the recovery rate in the country is 55.77 per cent among COVID-19 patients. 

"During the last 24 hours, a total of 9,440 COVID-19 patients have been cured. A total of 2,37,195 patients have been cured of COVID-19 so far. The recovery rate is 55.77 per cent among COVID-19 patients," the Health Ministry tweeted. 

It said that the total number of recovered patients has crossed the number of active patients by 62,808. 

"Presently, there are 1,74,387 active COVID-19 cases and all are under active medical supervision," the Ministry added.

18,000 COVID-19 tests being conducted each day: Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said that testing has been increased by three times in the city and now 18,000 tests are being done per day in the national capital.

"There has been a three-fold increase in testing; earlier it was five thousand tests per day, now it is around eighteen thousand per day. Now people will not face any issues in getting tested for COVID-19," Kejriwal said.

He informed that there are 25,000 active cases in Delhi and 33,000 people have recovered. 6,000 people are in hospitals and 12,000 people are getting treatment at home.

383 COVID-19 cases in Puducherry

Puducherry Government on Monday informed that the Union Territory has reported a total of 383 COVID-19 cases so far.

At present there are 226 active cases and while 149 people have been cured and discharged in the Union Territory.

While according to the government, the death toll stands at eight.

Over 69 lakh COVID-19 tests conducted till June 21: ICMR

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Monday informed that over 69 lakh COVID-19 tests were conducted by various laboratories across the country, including 1,43,267 tests on June 21.So far, 69,50,493 tests have been conducted, it said.

As of now, a total of 953 laboratories across India have been given approval to conduct COVID-19 test. While 699 of them are government laboratories, 254 are private laboratory chains.

With 67 new COVID-19 cases in Rajasthan, tally inches closer to 15,000-mark

With 67 new COVID-19 cases reported in Rajasthan on Monday, the tally of positive cases in the state has reached to 14,997, confirmed health department.

These confirmed cases were reported from Jaipur (28), Dholpur (10), Ajmer (6), Jhunjhunu (6), Kota (6), Dausa (5), Tonk (2) and Sirohi (1). Three cases were reported among the people belonging to other states/country, the state health department said.

"64 patients have recovered from the disease, 66 have been discharged on Monday after being treated for the virus," it added.  

The state has witnessed 349 fatalities to date.

As per the data given by the state health department, there are 2,987 active cases and the count for discharged patients stands at 11,421.

Odisha reports one more COVID-19 fatality, 143 new cases

A 46-year-old man from Ganjam district became the latest COVID-19 victim in Odisha, raising the death toll due to the contagion in the state to 15, a health department official said on Monday.

Odisha also recorded 143 new cases of the respiratory ailment, taking the state's coronavirus tally to 5,303, of which 1,562 cases are active, he said.

Goa Health Minister expresses condolence over state's first COVID-19 death

Goa Health Minister Vishwajit P Rane on Monday expressed his condolence to the family of an 85-year-old man, the first person who has been succumbed to COVID-19 in Morlem in North Goa district.

Rane tweeted, "Deeply saddened to inform that an 85-year-old man, from Morlem in Sattari, who had tested positive has succumbed to #COVID19. My heartfelt condolence to the family."

"This is the first COVID-19 death reported in the state," it read.

Rane further added, "We assure the people that our team is doing everything to keep our people safe and are following the strictest measures that are in place. This is an unfortunate incident and I stand with the family in their time of grief."

Earlier, the Minister made a faux pas and identified the dead COVID-19 victim as a woman. "Today, we had our first COVID-19 death of an 85-year-old lady in my constituency, Morlem," he had said.

69 more COVID-19 cases in Nagaland, state count reaches 280

69 more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Nagaland on Monday, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 280.

"Out of 275 samples tested, 69 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported. The total number of positive cases stands at 280, of which 139 are active and 141 have recovered," said S Pangnyu Phom, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland.

Minister V S Sunilkumar goes into self-quarantine after health worker tests positive for COVID-19

Kerala state Agricultural Minister VS Sunilkumar has gone into self-quarantine following a meeting attended by a health worker tested positive for COVID-19.

A COVID review meet was convened by the minister at the Thrissur Corporation on June 15.

The health worker tested positive for covid on sunday evening. Following that, the minister and his PA entered into self-quarantine.

Thirteen people attended the meet on that day. All those who participated in the meeting may advised to go into quarantine.

7 new corona cases in Agra, recovery rate increases further

Seven more coronavirus cases reported in the past 24 hours till Monday morning in Agra took the district's total tally to 1,139 even as 937 patients have been discharged so far after recovery. The death tally has increased to 77 so far, compared with 75 till Sunday morning.

The recovery rate of 82.41 per cent is encouraging, health officials said. On Sunday, Agra's recovery rate was 81.71 per cent.

So far, 18,797 samples have been collected from 67 containment zones for testing.

Mathura also reported 12 new cases, Firozabad 11, Mainpuri 8, and Etah six.

Officials said the Covid hospital at the SN Medical College is in the process of installing 10 more ventilators even as city philanthropists have donated more than two dozen air conditioners for the convenience of patients.

Arunachal Pradesh's COVID-19 tally rises to 139

Four more persons were found to be positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, taking the total number of cases in the Northeastern state to 139, officials said on Monday.

There are 118 active cases in the state at present, they said.

Total 21 people have recovered from the disease so far, they added.

Most of the active cases are in Changlang district where 68 people are undergoing treatment, followed by Capital Complex (20), West Kameng (12), East Siang (five), Lohit and Lower Dibang Valley (three each), Namsai and Tirap (two each), West Siang, Tawang and Lower Siang (one each).

With increase of 14,821 new cases, India's COVID-19 count reaches 4,25,282

With an increase of 14,821 new cases and 445 deaths, India's COVID-19 count reached 4,25,282 on Monday.

According to the latest update by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), 13,699 deaths have been recorded due to the infection so far in the country.

The rise in confirmed cases today is lower than the highest spike of 15 thousand plus cases registered on Sunday.

The count includes 1,74,387 active cases, and 2,37,196 cured/discharged/migrated patients.

Maharashtra with 1,32,075 confirmed cases remains the worst-affected by the infection so far in the country. The state's count includes 60,161 active, 65,744 cured, discharged patients while 6,170 deaths have been reported due to the infection so far.

Meanwhile, the national capital today became the second-worst affected region in the country with the number of confirmed cases in Delhi reaching 59,746 as opposed to Tamil Nadu's 59,377 cases.

While 2,175 deaths have been reported in Delhi due to the infection so far, the toll in Tamil Nadu stands at 757.

Gaya Deputy Mayor tests positive for COVID-19

Deputy Mayor of Gaya Municipal Corporation has tested positive for COVID-19.

According to officials, the Deputy Mayor was tested after he complained of cold and body ache for the past two days. Following that, he was tested for coronavirus through the TrueNet machine.

On testing positive, he was admitted to the isolation ward.

Gaya civil surgeon Dr Brijesh Singh has confirmed the TrueNet test results.  

"After his request, he was sent for home quarantine. His swab samples will be sent to Patna for COVID-19 test," said Dr Singh.

First COVID-19 death in Goa; 85-yr-old woman succumbs

An 85-year-old woman, who tested positive for coronavirus earlier, succumbed to the infection on Monday, making it the first case of death due to the viral disease in the state, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said.

The woman, belonging to Morlem village in North Goa district, was undergoing treatment at the ESI hospital, a designated facility for COVID-19 patients, he said.

The state government has already declared Morlem village, which falls under Valpoi, the Assembly constituency of Rane, as a COVID-19 containment zone.

"Today, an 85-year-old woman from Morlem village died. This is the first COVID-19 death in the state. My condolences to the family," Rane told reporters.

He said the state government was following all the latest protocols to keep Goa safe.

Mumbai reports 1,242 more COVID-19 cases

A total of 1,242 cases of COVID-19 were reported in Mumbai on Sunday, as per information provided by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

With this, the total number of COVID-19 cases reached 66,507, including 29,347 active cases. While 33,491 patients have been discharged so far, and 3,669 deaths have taken place.

India's COVID cases per lakh population among lowest in world, says govt

Guwahati: The number of COVID-19 cases rose to 5,586 in Assam on Sunday, with 331 people testing positive, the highest in a single day, according to state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. 

The previous single day highest was 285 cases on June 4.

The state's tally of positive cases reached 5,586, with nine deaths and over 3,000 recovered patients, he said.

The minister said that 198 new cases were reported late tonight, while 133 cases were reported during the day, taking the daily total to 331, the highest so far on a single day.

The state's recovery rate has improved to 63.2 per cent with 202 more patients discharged on Sunday from various civil, district and model hospitals after testing negative, taking the total of released patients to 3404, the minister said.

Of the total 5,586 positive cases, there are 2,170 active cases, nine deaths, 3,202 recovered cases and three persons who migrated out of the state, he said. The total number of people tested so far in the state is 2,88,677, the minister said.

"Two days in a row our team managed to conduct over 15,000 more COVID-19 tests today, taking our total to 2,88,677. Our targeted testing is designed to trace all potential infections", the minister said.

The number of people in institutional quarantine facilities is 38,568, while the number of people in home quarantine is 1,19,405, he said. There are 285 containment zones in 23 districts of the state with Kamrup(Metro) having the highest of 129.

Meanwhile, the Assam Targeted Surveillance Program (ATSP), aiming to cover more than 50,000 random tests during a week, continued for the fifth day on Sunday.  "We aim to conduct more than 50,000 random testings in a week's time, targeting vulnerable areas", he said.

Under ATSP, samples of people working in locations such as truck parking places, loading and unloading centres, godown areas, weigh bridges, dhabas etc. will be collected and tested.

Staff of hotels used as institutional quarantine will also be tested along with frontline officials like police personnel, the minister said. ATSP will also cover the family members or co-residents of homes of persons who have been released from the institutional quarantine, he added.

The entire exercise is expected to be finished by June 27, and shall involve the deputy commissioners of each district who will ensure the availability of adequate facilities, the minister said.

In order to facilitate people to get themselves tested without having to visit hospitals, some health facilities have been identified by the health department where swab collection for COVID-19 will be done free of cost, Sarma added.

18,000 COVID-19 tests being conducted each day: Arvind Kejriwal

First COVID-19 death in Goa; 85-yr-old woman succumbs

An 85-year-old woman, who tested positive for coronavirus earlier, succumbed to the infection on Monday, making it the first case of death due to the viral disease in the state, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said.

The woman, belonging to Morlem village in North Goa district, was undergoing treatment at the ESI hospital, a designated facility for COVID-19 patients, he said.

The state government has already declared Morlem village, which falls under Valpoi, the Assembly constituency of Rane, as a COVID-19 containment zone.

"Today, an 85-year-old woman from Morlem village died. This is the first COVID-19 death in the state. My condolences to the family," Rane told reporters.

He said the state government was following all the latest protocols to keep Goa safe.

Mumbai reports 1,242 more COVID-19 cases

A total of 1,242 cases of COVID-19 were reported in Mumbai on Sunday, as per information provided by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

With this, the total number of COVID-19 cases reached 66,507, including 29,347 active cases. While 33,491 patients have been discharged so far, and 3,669 deaths have taken place.

Guwahati: The number of COVID-19 cases rose to 5,586 in Assam on Sunday, with 331 people testing positive, the highest in a single day, according to state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. 

The previous single day highest was 285 cases on June 4.

The state's tally of positive cases reached 5,586, with nine deaths and over 3,000 recovered patients, he said.

The minister said that 198 new cases were reported late tonight, while 133 cases were reported during the day, taking the daily total to 331, the highest so far on a single day.

The state's recovery rate has improved to 63.2 per cent with 202 more patients discharged on Sunday from various civil, district and model hospitals after testing negative, taking the total of released patients to 3404, the minister said.

Of the total 5,586 positive cases, there are 2,170 active cases, nine deaths, 3,202 recovered cases and three persons who migrated out of the state, he said. The total number of people tested so far in the state is 2,88,677, the minister said.

"Two days in a row our team managed to conduct over 15,000 more COVID-19 tests today, taking our total to 2,88,677. Our targeted testing is designed to trace all potential infections", the minister said.

The number of people in institutional quarantine facilities is 38,568, while the number of people in home quarantine is 1,19,405, he said. There are 285 containment zones in 23 districts of the state with Kamrup(Metro) having the highest of 129.

Meanwhile, the Assam Targeted Surveillance Program (ATSP), aiming to cover more than 50,000 random tests during a week, continued for the fifth day on Sunday.  "We aim to conduct more than 50,000 random testings in a week's time, targeting vulnerable areas", he said.

Under ATSP, samples of people working in locations such as truck parking places, loading and unloading centres, godown areas, weigh bridges, dhabas etc. will be collected and tested.

Staff of hotels used as institutional quarantine will also be tested along with frontline officials like police personnel, the minister said. ATSP will also cover the family members or co-residents of homes of persons who have been released from the institutional quarantine, he added.

The entire exercise is expected to be finished by June 27, and shall involve the deputy commissioners of each district who will ensure the availability of adequate facilities, the minister said.

In order to facilitate people to get themselves tested without having to visit hospitals, some health facilities have been identified by the health department where swab collection for COVID-19 will be done free of cost, Sarma added.
