Delhi reports 4,266 new covid-19 cases, 21 more deaths

Delhi reported 4,266 new COVID-19 cases and 21 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking national capital's tally to over 2.09 lakh. There are 26,907 active cases in the national capital while 1,78,154 cases have recovered or have been discharged.

"Delhi reports 4,266 new COVID-19 cases and 21 deaths in the last 24 hours; 2754recovered/discharged. Total cases in the national capital rise to 2,09,748 including 4,687 deaths and 1,78,154 recovered/discharged/migrated. Active cases 26,907," said the Government of Delhi. 

Meanwhile, India's tally of active COVID-19 has reached 9,43,480 cases.

UP conducts over 1.50 lakhs tests in last 24 hours, reports 7,042 new cases

Over 1.50 lakh COVID-19 tests including over 50,000 RT-PCR were conducted in Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours, said Principal Health Secretary Amit Mohan Prasad on Friday.

"A total of 1,50,652 samples were tested in the state in the last 24 hours including 50,076 tests which were conducted at RT-PCR labs. A total of 72,17,980 samples have been tested so far. The state's positivity rate of COVID-19 in the state stands at 4.14 per cent," said Mohan addressing a press briefing on coronavirus situation in the state.

Maharashtra's COVID-19 count crosses 10-lakh mark with 24,886 new cases

Maharashtra on Friday reported 24,886 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of cases in the state to over 10 lakhs, according to the state health department bulletin. 

As per the bulletin, the death toll due to COVID-19 in the state stands at 28,724 after 393 patients succumbed to COVID-19 on Friday. The total number of COVID-19 cases in the state stands at 10,15,681 including 7,15,023 discharged, 2,71,566 active cases and 28,724 deaths.

5,514 COVID-19 cases reported in Tamil Nadu

A total of 5,514 new COVID-19 cases and 77 deaths were reported in Tamil Nadu on Friday, taking the total number of cases to 4,91,571 in the state. According to the health department, 6,006 patients were reported today. The total cases in the state include 8,231 deaths, 4,35,422 discharges and 47,918 active cases. Meanwhile, India's tally of active COVID-19 has reached 9,43,480 cases.

A total of 9,999 new COVID-19 cases and 77 deaths were reported in Andhra Pradesh on Friday. The state's count of coronavirus cases has gone up to 5,47,686.

Haryana reports 2,388 new COVID-19 cases, 25 deaths

Haryana reported 2,388 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday, taking the state's tally to 88,332, while 25 more fatalities pushed the toll to 932, according to the health department''s daily bulletin.

On Thursday, the state had reported its biggest single-day spike of 2,591 cases.

Aftab Shivdasani tests positive for COVID-19, under home quarantine

Actor Aftab Shivdasani on Friday said he has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been advised to quarantine at home.

Shivdasani shared the news in a statement posted on Twitter, saying that he "showed minor symptoms" of the novel disease, following which he got himself tested.

"Hello everyone, hope you all are fit and fine and are taking care of yourself. Recently, I started showing minor symptoms of a dry cough and a mild fever and I got myself tested for COVID-19.  

"Unfortunately the results came out positive and under the medical supervision of doctors and the authorities, I have been advised home quarantine," the 42-year-old actor said.

7,016 fresh COVID-19 cases take UP's tally to over 2.99 lakh; death toll mounts to 4,282

The COVID-19 death toll in Uttar Pradesh rose to 4,282 on Friday with 76 more fatalities, while 7,016 fresh cases pushed the infection tally in the state to over 2.99 lakh, officials said.  

Additional Chief Secretary Amit Mohan Prasad said, "The total number of active cases in the state now stands at 67,321 while 2,27,442 patients have been treated and discharged after recovery. In the past 24 hours, 76 persons have died due to the disease."

The total number of COVID-19 cases have risen to 2,99,045 while 7,016 fresh cases reported in the past 24 hours, he told reporters.  

The highest single-day spike so far was registered on Thursday, when the state registered 7,042 cases.

Another UP minister tests positive for coronavirus

 Uttar Pradesh Minister of State for Jails, Jai Kumar Singh Jaiki, on Friday, said he has tested positive for coronavirus. "After detecting primary symptoms of corona, I had got my test done on September 9, which has come positive. As per medical advice, I have isolated myself at home," Singh tweeted on Friday.

In another tweet, he requested all those who had come in his contact in the past one week to get themselves tested.

Before Jaiki, 12 ministers in the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh Government had tested positive for the virus. Two of them, Chetan Chauhan and Kamal Rani Varun, succumbed to the infection.

Odisha Women and Child Development and Mission Shakti Minister Tukuni Sahu has tested positive for COVID-19. "I have tested COVID positive. Now I am in home isolation and stable. Those who have come in contact with me in the last few days are requested to get themselves tested if required," the minister said in a tweet on Friday.

Union minister Suresh Angadi tests positive for Covid-19

Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi has tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday. Angadi made the announcement of his diagnosis on Twitter. 

He said, “I have tested Covid-19 positive today. I am doing fine. Taking the advice of doctors. Requesting all those who have come in close contact with me in the last few days to monitor their health and get tested in case of any symptoms.” He said that he was asymptomatic.

189 more Maharashtra Police personnel test positive for COVID-19

A total of 189 more Maharashtra police personnel tested positive for COVID-19, while one died, in the last 24 hours. 

"The total number of positive cases in the police force has risen to 18,405 including 3,612 active cases, 14,608 recoveries and 185 deaths till date," Maharashtra Police said. 

Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state in the country by the infection. The State has so far reported 2,53,100 active cases, 6,86,462 cured and discharged patients and 27,787 deaths.

New Covid-19 drug gets DCGI's nod for human trial

Amid the raging coronavirus pandemic, PNB Vesper Life Science Private Limited on Friday received approval from the Drug Controller General of India to conduct the clinical trial of their drug on Covid-19 patients. 

The Indian Pharma Research company claimed that if their propriety drug PNB-001 -- Baladol -- works successfully in Covid-19 patients, it would be the "first new chemical entity in the world for the treatment of the disease".

The drug has shown positive results in all the initial preclinical studies.

Mizoram's COVID-19 tally rises to 1,353

At least 20 people, including two infants, have tested positive for coronavirus in Mizoram, taking the state's COVID-19 caseload to 1,353, an official said on Friday. 

Sixteen cases were reported from Aizawl district, three from Kolasib district and one from Lunglei district in the last 24-hours, the official said.

Two infants aged 6 and 10 months and a BSF jawan were among the newly infected persons, he said.

12 more succumb to COVID-19 in Pondy, toll rises to 365

Puducherry continued to witness a surge in COVID-19 infections as 12 more people died of the virus and 504 cases were added anew on Friday, taking the overall tally to 19,026.

A release from Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said 12 people succumbed to infection during last 24 hours ending 10 am on Friday, taking the toll to 365.

The Director said 504 fresh cases were recorded at the end of the examination of 2,823 samples.

COVID-19: Seven more deaths in Rajasthan

Rajasthan recorded seven more fatalities due to the novel coronavirus on Friday, taking the COVID-19 death toll in the state to 1,199, according to a health department bulletin.
The state also reported 740 new cases, taking the total number of people infected by COVID-19 in the state to 98,116.
 As per the bulletin, 79,222 people have been discharged after treatment till now.

Odisha Minister tests positive for COVID-19

Odisha's Women and Child Development and Mission Shakti Minister Tukuni Sahu on Friday said that she has tested positive for COVID-19.

Sahu became the fifth minister in the state to be infected by a coronavirus. Earlier, Rural Development Minister Susant Singh, Higher Education Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo, Textile Minister Padmini Dian and Tourism Minister J P Panigrahi had tested positive for the infection.

"I have tested Covid positive. Now I am in home isolation and stable. Those who have come in contact with me in the last few days are requested to get themselves tested if required," Sahu said in her twitter post.

Second Kerala Minister test COVID positive

The state secretariat meeting of the CPI-M held last week appears to have played a role in spreading the pandemic as a second Kerala Minister on Friday tested COVID positive.

State Industries Minister E.P. Jayarajan who was in isolation at his hometown in Kannur turned positive and was moved to the state-run Medical College Hospital at Pariyaram, near Kannur.

His wife also has tested positive.

Finance Minister Thomas Issac was the first state minister last week to test positive and soon after all those who took part in the meeting, including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and State Health Minister went into self-isolation.

Vijayan's test results were negative.

Issac is convalescing at the State-run Hospital here.

Odisha reports record 3,996 new COVID-19 cases, 14 fresh fatalities

Odisha reported its highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases on Friday as 3,996 more people tested positive for the infection.

The state had registered its previous highest single-day spike of 3,991 coronavirus cases on Thursday. 

"The fresh infections have pushed the state's caseload to 1,43,117," he said.

"Odisha's coronavirus death toll mounted to 605 as the state registered a record 14 fatalities," the official said.

UP records single-day spike of 7,042 corona cases

Uttar Pradesh has recorded the highest single-day spike of 7,042 coronavirus cases, taking the tally to 2,92,029.

Lucknow alone recorded 917 cases on Thursday.

The number of deaths on Thursday was 94 pushing the death toll in the state to 4,206, according to an official bulletin.

Fatalities reported in the state include 11 Covid-19 deaths in Lucknow, eight in Kanpur city, six in Gorakhpur, five each in Meerut and Pilibhit, four each from Prayagraj, Varanasi, Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar.

The total number of active cases in the state now stands at 66,317.

Covid 19 LIVE: India's case tally crosses 45 lakh mark

New Delhi: India registered a record 96,551 new coronavirus cases in last 24 hours taking the total number of infections past the 45-lakh mark, confirmed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday.

Apart from the fresh infections, 1,209 coronavirus-related deaths were also reported taking the death toll to 76,271 in the country.

Out of the total 45,62,414 COVID-19 cases, around 9,43,480 are active cases while 35,42,663 have been successfully cured/discharged/migrated.

In more positive news, the Ministry of Health announced that there has been an unprecedented surge in COVID-19 recoveries in India. There is more than 100% increase in patients recovered and discharged in the past 29 days, added the govt.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) confirmed that a total of 5,40,97,975 samples have been tested up to September 10, 2020. Out of these, 11,63,542 samples were tested yesterday, said the ICMR.

Fatalities reported in the state include 11 Covid-19 deaths in Lucknow, eight in Kanpur city, six in Gorakhpur, five each in Meerut and Pilibhit, four each from Prayagraj, Varanasi, Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar.

The total number of active cases in the state now stands at 66,317.

Covid 19 LIVE: India's case tally crosses 45 lakh mark

New Delhi: India registered a record 96,551 new coronavirus cases in last 24 hours taking the total number of infections past the 45-lakh mark, confirmed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday.

Apart from the fresh infections, 1,209 coronavirus-related deaths were also reported taking the death toll to 76,271 in the country.

Out of the total 45,62,414 COVID-19 cases, around 9,43,480 are active cases while 35,42,663 have been successfully cured/discharged/migrated.

In more positive news, the Ministry of Health announced that there has been an unprecedented surge in COVID-19 recoveries in India. There is more than 100% increase in patients recovered and discharged in the past 29 days, added the govt.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) confirmed that a total of 5,40,97,975 samples have been tested up to September 10, 2020. Out of these, 11,63,542 samples were tested yesterday, said the ICMR.
