Puducherry MLA tests positive for COVID-19

Puducherry: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) legislator in Puducherry, R Siva tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday.

A spokesman of the Department of Health and Family Welfare here told reporters that the samples collected from the legislator confirmed the infection and on his request he had been admitted to a private hospital in Chennai.

The COVID-19 tally in the union territory rose to 10,522 on Sunday with the addition of 412 fresh cases while the toll mounted to 159 with eight deaths, according to the Health Department.

Bengal COVID tally climbs to 1,38,870 with record 3,274 new infections

Kolkata: The COVID-19 caseload of West Bengal went up to 1,38,870 after the highest single-day spike of 3,274 new infections was reported on Sunday, the health department said.

The death toll due to the disease also rose to 2,794 with 57 more people succumbing to coronavirus infection, a bulletin released by the department said.

Since Saturday, 3,048 patients have recovered from the disease and the number of active cases is now 28,069, it said.

In the last 24 hours, 37,149 samples have been tested.

Shillong: At least 106 more persons, including 43 personnel of various armed forces, tested positive for COVID-19 in Meghalaya on Sunday, pushing the tally in the state to 1,917, a senior official said.

209 new coronavirus cases in Goa; four persons die

Panaji: The coronavirus infection count in Goa went up to 13,999 on Sunday after 209 people tested positive, the health department said.

With the death of four patients, the coastal state's fatality count grew to 144, it said.

A total of 453 patients were discharged from various hospitals across the state on Sunday, which took the number of recovered persons to 10,472 so far.

Goa's COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 13,999, new cases 209, deaths 144, discharged 10,472, active cases 3,383, samples tested till date 1,80,716.

5,938 new COVID-19 cases in Karnataka, 68 deaths

Bengaluru: Karnataka on Sunday reported 5,938 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total infection count to 2,77,814, while the toll reached 4,683 with 68 deaths. The day also saw 4,996 people getting discharged.

Bengaluru Urban accounted for the maximum numbers of fresh cases reported at 2,126.

As of August 23 evening, cumulatively 2,77,814 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Karnataka, which includes 4,683 deaths and 1,89,564 discharges, the health department said in its bulletin.

Of 83,551 active cases, 82,764 patients are in isolation at designated hospitals and are stable, while 787 are in Intensive Care Units.

J-K reports 666 new COVID-19 cases, 9 deaths

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday reported 666 fresh COVID-19 cases and nine more deaths due to the infection.

Now, the union territory's COVID-19 caseload has reached 32,647 and the death toll mounted to 617.

The Kashmir Valley recorded 540 fresh cases and the Jammu region 126 in the past 24 hours till 5.00 pm on Sunday, an official said.

The Srinagar district recorded 258 of the fresh coronavirus cases, followed by Jammu (60), he said. This is for the third straight day that Srinagar has recorded more than 200 fresh cases of COVID-19.

So far, Srinagar district has recorded the maximum number of COVID-19 cases at 8,075, which is nearly 25 per cent of the total infections in the union territory.

The union territory's summer capital has also reported the highest 195 COVID related fatalities so far, which is 31 per cent of the total deaths due to the disease.

As on Sunday, more than 80 per cent of the infected persons in the city have recovered and there are only 1,366 active cases.

Of the nine new deaths, seven were reported from Srinagar and two from Jammu.

Jammu and Kashmir has 7,198 active cases of the coronavirus disease (COVD-19), while 24,832 patients have recovered so far, they said.

COVID-19: Maha's case count grows by 10,441; death toll by 258

Mumbai: Maharashtra on Sunday reported 10,441 new coronavirus positive cases, which pushed the cumulative count in the state to 6,82,383, a state health official.

With the death of 258 patients during the day, the toll reached 22,253, he said.

As many as 8,157 patients were discharged after recovery on Sunday, which took the number of recovered persons to 4,88,271 so far.

According to the official, there are 1,71,542 active COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra at present.

So far, 36,16,704 tests have been carried out in the state.

Maharashtra's COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 6,82,383, deaths 22,253, recoveries 4,88,271, active cases 1,71,542 and people tested so far 36,16,704.

Six deaths, 1,096 fresh virus cases in Haryana

Chandigarh: Haryana on Sunday registered another spike of 1,096 coronavirus cases as the fatality count reached 603 with six more deaths.

During the past a few days, the state has reported a sharp spike in cases. So far, 54,386 people have contracted the infection.

Of the six fatalities, two took place in Ambala while one each in Hisar, Kurukshetra, Sirsa and Kaithal, according to a state Health Department bulletin.

Among the districts which reported fresh cases were Panipat (134), Gurgaon (113), Ambala (97), Hisar (96), Kurukshetra (75), Sonipat (66), Karnal (51), Rewari (45) and Panchkula (40), the bulletin said. 

The state has 8,961 active cases as of now while 44,822 have been discharged after recovery.

As of Sunday, the state's recovery rate was 82.41 per cent. The infection doubling rate was 33 days, the bulletin said, adding that 38,039 are being conducted after every 10 lakh population.

The state has a fatality rate of 1.11 per cent.

AP COVID-19 tally breaches 3.5 lakh mark with 7,895 additions

Amaravati (AP): Coronavirus cases in Andhra Pradesh crossed the 3.5 lakh mark on Sunday as 7,895 were added afresh while the state reported 93 more fatalities.

The latest bulletin said the total number of those recovered from the viral infection increased to 2.60 lakh after 7,449 more got cured in 24 hours ending 9 am on Sunday. 

The number of active cases in the state now stood at 89,742.

With 7,895 new cases being reported, the overall tally rose to 3,53,111.

50 deaths, 1,136 fresh virus cases in Punjab; infection tally 41,779

Chandigarh: Punjab on Sunday recorded its second-highest fatality count after 50 more people died from coronavirus even as 1,136 fresh cases took the state's infection tally to 41,779.

According to a medical bulletin, the disease has claimed 1,086 lives in the state so far.  

On Sunday, 19 deaths were reported from Patiala; nine from Ludhiana; seven from Jalandhar; six from Gurdaspur; two each from Ferozepur and Hoshiarpur; and one each from Fazilka, Kapurthala, Muktsar, Sangrur and Tarn Taran, it said.  

The state had reported its highest 51 deaths on August 17.  

Among districts which reported new cases were Ludhiana (242), Patiala (188), Jalandhar (107), Amritsar (68), Moga (60), Kapurthala (58), Sangrur (51) and Hoshiarpur (51).  

A total of 2,226 coronavirus patients were discharged after recovering from infection. So far, 26,528 people have been cured of it, the bulletin said.

There are 14,165 active COVID-19 cases in the state as of now, according to it.

Forty-six patients are on ventilator while 374 are on oxygen support, the bulletin said. The state has so far collected 9,07,160 samples for testing.

Kerala reports 1908 fresh cases; death toll climbs to 223

Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 1,908 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Kerala on Sunday and five deaths were reported, taking the toll to 223, while 1,110 recovered from the infection, Health minister K K Shailaja said.

A total of 1718 people were infected through contact and the source of infection of 160 people was not known.

The covid infection tally in the state touched 58,261 today, she said.

While Thiruvananthapuram reported 397 cases, Alappuzha had 241, Ernakulam 200, Malappuram 186, Kannur 143, Kollam
133, Kozhikode 119, Thrissur 116, Kottayam 106 and Pathanamthitta 104, the minister said in a press release here.

Of the positive cases, 50 are health workers, 35 had come from various countries and 105 from different states, the release said.

While 37,649 people have recovered from the infection, 20,330 people are under treatment.

At least 1,82,525 people are under observation in various districts, of whom 1,65,996 are in home/institutional quarantine and 16,529 in hospitals, including 2066 admitted today.

In the last 24 hours, samples of 36,353 people have been sent for testing.

So far 14,22,558 samples have been tested.

Jharkhand's COVID-19 tally rises to 29,211; death toll mounts to 311

Ranchi (Jharkhand): Jharkhand's COVID-19 tally rose to 29,211 on Sunday as 980 more people tested positive for the infection, while 14 fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 311, a health bulletin said.

The fresh infections have pushed the number of active cases in the state to 9,518, while 19,382 people have been cured of the disease, it said.

A total of 13,214 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, the bulletin added.

With 1,450 fresh coronavirus cases, Delhi records highest single-day spike in August

New Delhi: Delhi recorded 1,450 fresh coronavirus cases on Sunday, the highest single-day spike in August, taking the infection tally to over 1.61 lakh, while the death toll mounted to 4,300.

Sixteen fresh fatalities were recorded in the last 24 hours, officials said.

Sunday's spike in fresh cases surpassed Saturday's increase of 1,412 cases, authorities said.

According to the Delhi government's health bulletin, 6,261 RTPCR, CBNAAT, TrueNat tests and 12,470 rapid antigen tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.

The total number of cases stood at 1,61,466.

The bulletin said that the number of active cases stood at 11,778, while 1,45,388 patients have either recovered, been discharged or migrated out.

The number of COVID-19 containment zones is 627.

15 fresh cases take Mizoram's tally to 918

Aizawl: Fifteen more people, including two frontline workers, in Mizoram, have tested positive for novel coronavirus on Sunday, taking the states COVID-19 caseload to 918.

According to a statement issued by the state's Information and Public Relation department, 11 cases were reported from Kolasib district, three from Aizawl district and one from Lunglei district.

Of the 15 fresh cases, nine were due to local transmission. Six truck drivers who came from Tripura and Assam were among the rest, it said.

Meanwhile, 36 people, including seven Assam Rifles personnel, four Border Security Force (BSF) jawans and 22 truck drivers were discharged from COVID-19 care centres on Sunday after they recovered from the infection.

With 459 people having recovered, the recovery rate in the state now stands at 50 per cent. The number of active cases also stands at 459. 

According to the Health Department, a total of 32,391 samples have been tested till Saturday.

Mamit and Khawzawl districts are now coronavirus-free, the department said.

97 new cases push Arunachal's COVID-19 tally to 3,223

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh reported 97 more COVID-19 cases, including 35 security personnel, pushing the state's tally to 3,223, a senior health department official said on Sunday.

The fresh cases include 24 each from Tawang and Upper Subansiri, 22 from the Capital Complex region and 16 from West Kameng, State Surveillance Officer L Jampa said.

Barring seven, all of them are asymptomatic and have been shifted to COVID care centres.

Arunachal Pradesh now has 990 active cases after 103 people were discharged from hospitals on Saturday, increasing the total number of recoveries to 2,228, Jampa said.

The state's recovery rate stood at 69.12 per cent.

"Thirty-five paramilitary personnel - 22 from Tawang, 11 from West Kameng and two from East Siang - are among the new patients," the official said.

Altogether 1,752 people, including 682 security personnel, have tested positive since August 1, he said. Five patients have so far died due to COVID-19 in the state.

Arunachal Pradesh has thus far tested 1,41,655 samples, Jampa added.

59 coronavirus deaths, 5,325 fresh cases reported in UP

Lucknow: Fifty-nine people succumbed to COVID-19 in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, raising the death toll caused by the disease to 2,926 in the state, a senior official said.

Briefing reporters here, Additional Chief Secretary Amit Mohan Prasad said the case fatality rate stands at 1.56 per cent.

As many as 5,325 fresh coronavirus cases were reported in the state, taking the state-wide tally to 1,87,781, he said.

The count of active cases in the state stands at 49,242.

So far, 1,35,613 COVID-19 patients have been discharged after recovering from the disease with the recovery rate at 72.21 per cent, he further said.

The senior official said 1.3 lakh samples were tested in UP on Saturday.

Across the state, 62,774 help desks have been set up for the convenience of the public, Prasad said.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Health Minister Prabhuram Choudhary on Sunday said he has tested coronavirus positive.

He shared the information on his Twitter handle.

Choudhary is the seventh minister in Madhya Pradesh, besides Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, to test positive for the infection.

"My COVID-19 test report came out positive. I request those who had come in my contact to undergo a coronavirus test. Those in close contact should quarantine themselves," he tweeted.

"With your prayers and blessings, I will return amidst you soon to serve the people," he said.

In the last week of July, CM Chouhan had tested positive and recovered after treatment.

Besides, Public Works Department Minister Gopal Bhargava, Medical Education Minister Vishvas Sarang, state Cooperatives Minister Arvind Bhadoriya, Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat, Higher Education Minister Mohan Yadav and Minister of State (Independent charge) for Backward Class and Minority Welfare Ramkhelawan Patel had also tested coronavirus positive for infection.

Tripura's COVID-19 tally rises to 8,720; death toll mounts to 72

Agartala: The number of COVID-19 cases in Tripura rose to 8,720 on Sunday as 331 more people tested positive for the infection, while two fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 72, a health official said.

The two patients died at the Agartala Government Medical College on Saturday, he said.

The fresh infections have pushed the number of active COVID-19 cases in the northeastern state to 2,448, while 6,182 people have recovered from the disease so far and 18 patients have migrated to other states, the official said.

The state has tested 2,41,104 samples for COVID-19 so far, he added.

Six deaths, 697 fresh coronavirus cases in Rajasthan; total count 69,961

Jaipur: Rajasthan health authorities on Sunday reported six coronavirus fatalities and 697 fresh infections, taking the numbers to 950 deaths and 69,961 cases in the state.

So far, 69,961 people have contracted the infection in the state, according to a Health Department official. 

On Sunday, 115 cases surfaced in Alwar; 110 each in Jaipur and Kota; 109 in Jodhpur; 98 in Bikaner; 76 in Bhilwara; 71 in Sikar, five in Jalore; and three in Jaisalmer.

The maximum 254 fatalities due to the infection have been reported in Jaipur, followed by 87 in Jodhpur; 67 in Bikaner; 66 in Bharatpur; 64 in Ajmer; 60 in Kota; 40 each in Nagaur and Pali; 23 in Alwar; 22 in Udaipur; and 19 in Dholpur. 

Currently, 14,759 patients are under treatment as 53,565 have recovered from the infection, the official said.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra's Thane district has gone up to 1,13,884 with 1,284 more people testing positive for the disease, a health official said on Sunday.

The fatality count in the district has reached 3,240 as 26 more people succumbed to the viral infection on Saturday, he said.

India’s coronavirus tally on Sunday breached the 30-lakh mark after the country reported 69,239 new cases in the last 24 hours. The country’s toll rose by 912 to 56,706. Rajasthan records 11 more COVID-19 deaths, 1,310 fresh cases

The COVID-19 death toll in Rajasthan rose to 944 on Saturday with 11 more fatalities, while 1,310 fresh cases pushed the infection tally to 69,264, a health department official said.

Three deaths were reported from Jaipur and one each from Ajmer, Bhilwara, Pali, Hanumangarh, Sikar, Udaipur, Kota and Tonk, he said.

There are a total of 14,176 active cases in the state and 53,449 patients have been discharged after recovering from the disease.

Punjab minister Sukhjinder Randhawa tests positive for coronavirus

Punjab Cabinet Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has tested positive for the coronavirus, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said on Saturday evening.

"My Cabinet colleague and Cooperation & Jails Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has tested positive for #Covid19. I wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to him joining us at work soon," the chief minister said in his tweet.

Randhawa is the third minister of the Amarinder Singh-led government to have contracted the infection.

61 fresh COVID-19 cases in Andamans; tally rises to 2,808

Sixty-one more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, taking the Union territory's tally to 2,808 on Saturday, a health official said.

As many as 109 more people have been cured of the disease, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,853, he said.

The fresh infections have pushed the number of active cases in the islands to 923, the official said.

Odisha's COVID-19 tally rises to 75,537, death toll mounts to 399

Odisha's COVID-19 tally rose to 75,537 on Saturday with the detection of 2,819 fresh infections, while nine more fatalities pushed its coronavirus death toll to 399, a health official said.

Three fresh fatalities were registered in Cuttack, two in Sundargarh and one each in Bolangir, Ganjam, Malkangiri and Rayagada districts, he said.

The fresh COVID-19 cases were reported from 29 of the 30 districts of the state.

Toll in COVID-19 rises to 234 in Assam

The toll in Assam due to the pandemic rose to 234 with seven more succumbing to it, Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on

Saturday.

The seven deceased are from Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Cachar, Kamrup, Sonitpur and Kamrup Metropolitan districts, Sarma tweeted.

The persons affected included a 77-year-old from Kamrup Metropolitan district, which primarily consists of the Guwahati city.

The others are a 77-year-old and a 60-year old from Dibrugarh district the fourth one is a 46-year old man from Jorhat, Sarma said.

A spokesman of the Department of Health and Family Welfare here told reporters that the samples collected from the legislator confirmed the infection and on his request he had been admitted to a private hospital in Chennai.

Bengal COVID tally climbs to 1,38,870 with record 3,274 new infections

Kolkata: The COVID-19 caseload of West Bengal went up to 1,38,870 after the highest single-day spike of 3,274 new infections was reported on Sunday, the health department said.

The death toll due to the disease also rose to 2,794 with 57 more people succumbing to coronavirus infection, a bulletin released by the department said.

Since Saturday, 3,048 patients have recovered from the disease and the number of active cases is now 28,069, it said.

In the last 24 hours, 37,149 samples have been tested.

209 new coronavirus cases in Goa; four persons die

Panaji: The coronavirus infection count in Goa went up to 13,999 on Sunday after 209 people tested positive, the health department said.

With the death of four patients, the coastal state's fatality count grew to 144, it said.

A total of 453 patients were discharged from various hospitals across the state on Sunday, which took the number of recovered persons to 10,472 so far.

Goa's COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 13,999, new cases 209, deaths 144, discharged 10,472, active cases 3,383, samples tested till date 1,80,716.

5,938 new COVID-19 cases in Karnataka, 68 deaths

Bengaluru: Karnataka on Sunday reported 5,938 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total infection count to 2,77,814, while the toll reached 4,683 with 68 deaths. The day also saw 4,996 people getting discharged.

Bengaluru Urban accounted for the maximum numbers of fresh cases reported at 2,126.

As of August 23 evening, cumulatively 2,77,814 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Karnataka, which includes 4,683 deaths and 1,89,564 discharges, the health department said in its bulletin.

Of 83,551 active cases, 82,764 patients are in isolation at designated hospitals and are stable, while 787 are in Intensive Care Units.

J-K reports 666 new COVID-19 cases, 9 deaths

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday reported 666 fresh COVID-19 cases and nine more deaths due to the infection.

Now, the union territory's COVID-19 caseload has reached 32,647 and the death toll mounted to 617.

The Kashmir Valley recorded 540 fresh cases and the Jammu region 126 in the past 24 hours till 5.00 pm on Sunday, an official said.

The Srinagar district recorded 258 of the fresh coronavirus cases, followed by Jammu (60), he said. This is for the third straight day that Srinagar has recorded more than 200 fresh cases of COVID-19.

So far, Srinagar district has recorded the maximum number of COVID-19 cases at 8,075, which is nearly 25 per cent of the total infections in the union territory.

The union territory's summer capital has also reported the highest 195 COVID related fatalities so far, which is 31 per cent of the total deaths due to the disease.

As on Sunday, more than 80 per cent of the infected persons in the city have recovered and there are only 1,366 active cases.

Of the nine new deaths, seven were reported from Srinagar and two from Jammu.

Jammu and Kashmir has 7,198 active cases of the coronavirus disease (COVD-19), while 24,832 patients have recovered so far, they said.

COVID-19: Maha's case count grows by 10,441; death toll by 258

Mumbai: Maharashtra on Sunday reported 10,441 new coronavirus positive cases, which pushed the cumulative count in the state to 6,82,383, a state health official.

With the death of 258 patients during the day, the toll reached 22,253, he said.

As many as 8,157 patients were discharged after recovery on Sunday, which took the number of recovered persons to 4,88,271 so far.

According to the official, there are 1,71,542 active COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra at present.

So far, 36,16,704 tests have been carried out in the state.

Six deaths, 1,096 fresh virus cases in Haryana

Chandigarh: Haryana on Sunday registered another spike of 1,096 coronavirus cases as the fatality count reached 603 with six more deaths.

During the past a few days, the state has reported a sharp spike in cases. So far, 54,386 people have contracted the infection.

Of the six fatalities, two took place in Ambala while one each in Hisar, Kurukshetra, Sirsa and Kaithal, according to a state Health Department bulletin.

Among the districts which reported fresh cases were Panipat (134), Gurgaon (113), Ambala (97), Hisar (96), Kurukshetra (75), Sonipat (66), Karnal (51), Rewari (45) and Panchkula (40), the bulletin said. 

The state has 8,961 active cases as of now while 44,822 have been discharged after recovery.

As of Sunday, the state's recovery rate was 82.41 per cent. The infection doubling rate was 33 days, the bulletin said, adding that 38,039 are being conducted after every 10 lakh population.

The state has a fatality rate of 1.11 per cent.

AP COVID-19 tally breaches 3.5 lakh mark with 7,895 additions

Amaravati (AP): Coronavirus cases in Andhra Pradesh crossed the 3.5 lakh mark on Sunday as 7,895 were added afresh while the state reported 93 more fatalities.

The latest bulletin said the total number of those recovered from the viral infection increased to 2.60 lakh after 7,449 more got cured in 24 hours ending 9 am on Sunday. 

The number of active cases in the state now stood at 89,742.

With 7,895 new cases being reported, the overall tally rose to 3,53,111.

50 deaths, 1,136 fresh virus cases in Punjab; infection tally 41,779

Chandigarh: Punjab on Sunday recorded its second-highest fatality count after 50 more people died from coronavirus even as 1,136 fresh cases took the state's infection tally to 41,779.

According to a medical bulletin, the disease has claimed 1,086 lives in the state so far.  

On Sunday, 19 deaths were reported from Patiala; nine from Ludhiana; seven from Jalandhar; six from Gurdaspur; two each from Ferozepur and Hoshiarpur; and one each from Fazilka, Kapurthala, Muktsar, Sangrur and Tarn Taran, it said.  

The state had reported its highest 51 deaths on August 17.  

Among districts which reported new cases were Ludhiana (242), Patiala (188), Jalandhar (107), Amritsar (68), Moga (60), Kapurthala (58), Sangrur (51) and Hoshiarpur (51).  

A total of 2,226 coronavirus patients were discharged after recovering from infection. So far, 26,528 people have been cured of it, the bulletin said.

There are 14,165 active COVID-19 cases in the state as of now, according to it.

Forty-six patients are on ventilator while 374 are on oxygen support, the bulletin said. The state has so far collected 9,07,160 samples for testing.

Kerala reports 1908 fresh cases; death toll climbs to 223

Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 1,908 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Kerala on Sunday and five deaths were reported, taking the toll to 223, while 1,110 recovered from the infection, Health minister K K Shailaja said.

A total of 1718 people were infected through contact and the source of infection of 160 people was not known.

The covid infection tally in the state touched 58,261 today, she said.

While Thiruvananthapuram reported 397 cases, Alappuzha had 241, Ernakulam 200, Malappuram 186, Kannur 143, Kollam
133, Kozhikode 119, Thrissur 116, Kottayam 106 and Pathanamthitta 104, the minister said in a press release here.

Of the positive cases, 50 are health workers, 35 had come from various countries and 105 from different states, the release said.

While 37,649 people have recovered from the infection, 20,330 people are under treatment.

At least 1,82,525 people are under observation in various districts, of whom 1,65,996 are in home/institutional quarantine and 16,529 in hospitals, including 2066 admitted today.

In the last 24 hours, samples of 36,353 people have been sent for testing.

So far 14,22,558 samples have been tested.

Jharkhand's COVID-19 tally rises to 29,211; death toll mounts to 311

Ranchi (Jharkhand): Jharkhand's COVID-19 tally rose to 29,211 on Sunday as 980 more people tested positive for the infection, while 14 fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 311, a health bulletin said.

The fresh infections have pushed the number of active cases in the state to 9,518, while 19,382 people have been cured of the disease, it said.

A total of 13,214 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, the bulletin added.

With 1,450 fresh coronavirus cases, Delhi records highest single-day spike in August

New Delhi: Delhi recorded 1,450 fresh coronavirus cases on Sunday, the highest single-day spike in August, taking the infection tally to over 1.61 lakh, while the death toll mounted to 4,300.

Sixteen fresh fatalities were recorded in the last 24 hours, officials said.

Sunday's spike in fresh cases surpassed Saturday's increase of 1,412 cases, authorities said.

According to the Delhi government's health bulletin, 6,261 RTPCR, CBNAAT, TrueNat tests and 12,470 rapid antigen tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.

The total number of cases stood at 1,61,466.

The bulletin said that the number of active cases stood at 11,778, while 1,45,388 patients have either recovered, been discharged or migrated out.

The number of COVID-19 containment zones is 627.

15 fresh cases take Mizoram's tally to 918

Aizawl: Fifteen more people, including two frontline workers, in Mizoram, have tested positive for novel coronavirus on Sunday, taking the states COVID-19 caseload to 918.

According to a statement issued by the state's Information and Public Relation department, 11 cases were reported from Kolasib district, three from Aizawl district and one from Lunglei district.

Of the 15 fresh cases, nine were due to local transmission. Six truck drivers who came from Tripura and Assam were among the rest, it said.

Meanwhile, 36 people, including seven Assam Rifles personnel, four Border Security Force (BSF) jawans and 22 truck drivers were discharged from COVID-19 care centres on Sunday after they recovered from the infection.

With 459 people having recovered, the recovery rate in the state now stands at 50 per cent. The number of active cases also stands at 459. 

According to the Health Department, a total of 32,391 samples have been tested till Saturday.

Mamit and Khawzawl districts are now coronavirus-free, the department said.

97 new cases push Arunachal's COVID-19 tally to 3,223

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh reported 97 more COVID-19 cases, including 35 security personnel, pushing the state's tally to 3,223, a senior health department official said on Sunday.

The fresh cases include 24 each from Tawang and Upper Subansiri, 22 from the Capital Complex region and 16 from West Kameng, State Surveillance Officer L Jampa said.

Barring seven, all of them are asymptomatic and have been shifted to COVID care centres.

Arunachal Pradesh now has 990 active cases after 103 people were discharged from hospitals on Saturday, increasing the total number of recoveries to 2,228, Jampa said.

The state's recovery rate stood at 69.12 per cent.

"Thirty-five paramilitary personnel - 22 from Tawang, 11 from West Kameng and two from East Siang - are among the new patients," the official said.

Altogether 1,752 people, including 682 security personnel, have tested positive since August 1, he said. Five patients have so far died due to COVID-19 in the state.

Arunachal Pradesh has thus far tested 1,41,655 samples, Jampa added.

59 coronavirus deaths, 5,325 fresh cases reported in UP

Lucknow: Fifty-nine people succumbed to COVID-19 in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, raising the death toll caused by the disease to 2,926 in the state, a senior official said.

Briefing reporters here, Additional Chief Secretary Amit Mohan Prasad said the case fatality rate stands at 1.56 per cent.

As many as 5,325 fresh coronavirus cases were reported in the state, taking the state-wide tally to 1,87,781, he said.

The count of active cases in the state stands at 49,242.

So far, 1,35,613 COVID-19 patients have been discharged after recovering from the disease with the recovery rate at 72.21 per cent, he further said.

The senior official said 1.3 lakh samples were tested in UP on Saturday.

Across the state, 62,774 help desks have been set up for the convenience of the public, Prasad said.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Health Minister Prabhuram Choudhary on Sunday said he has tested coronavirus positive.

He shared the information on his Twitter handle.

Choudhary is the seventh minister in Madhya Pradesh, besides Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, to test positive for the infection.

"My COVID-19 test report came out positive. I request those who had come in my contact to undergo a coronavirus test. Those in close contact should quarantine themselves," he tweeted.

"With your prayers and blessings, I will return amidst you soon to serve the people," he said.

In the last week of July, CM Chouhan had tested positive and recovered after treatment.

Besides, Public Works Department Minister Gopal Bhargava, Medical Education Minister Vishvas Sarang, state Cooperatives Minister Arvind Bhadoriya, Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat, Higher Education Minister Mohan Yadav and Minister of State (Independent charge) for Backward Class and Minority Welfare Ramkhelawan Patel had also tested coronavirus positive for infection.

Tripura's COVID-19 tally rises to 8,720; death toll mounts to 72

Agartala: The number of COVID-19 cases in Tripura rose to 8,720 on Sunday as 331 more people tested positive for the infection, while two fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 72, a health official said.

The two patients died at the Agartala Government Medical College on Saturday, he said.

The fresh infections have pushed the number of active COVID-19 cases in the northeastern state to 2,448, while 6,182 people have recovered from the disease so far and 18 patients have migrated to other states, the official said.

The state has tested 2,41,104 samples for COVID-19 so far, he added.

Six deaths, 697 fresh coronavirus cases in Rajasthan; total count 69,961

Jaipur: Rajasthan health authorities on Sunday reported six coronavirus fatalities and 697 fresh infections, taking the numbers to 950 deaths and 69,961 cases in the state.

So far, 69,961 people have contracted the infection in the state, according to a Health Department official. 

On Sunday, 115 cases surfaced in Alwar; 110 each in Jaipur and Kota; 109 in Jodhpur; 98 in Bikaner; 76 in Bhilwara; 71 in Sikar, five in Jalore; and three in Jaisalmer.

The maximum 254 fatalities due to the infection have been reported in Jaipur, followed by 87 in Jodhpur; 67 in Bikaner; 66 in Bharatpur; 64 in Ajmer; 60 in Kota; 40 each in Nagaur and Pali; 23 in Alwar; 22 in Udaipur; and 19 in Dholpur. 

Currently, 14,759 patients are under treatment as 53,565 have recovered from the infection, the official said.

Rajasthan records 11 more COVID-19 deaths, 1,310 fresh cases

The COVID-19 death toll in Rajasthan rose to 944 on Saturday with 11 more fatalities, while 1,310 fresh cases pushed the infection tally to 69,264, a health department official said.

Three deaths were reported from Jaipur and one each from Ajmer, Bhilwara, Pali, Hanumangarh, Sikar, Udaipur, Kota and Tonk, he said.

Punjab minister Sukhjinder Randhawa tests positive for coronavirus

Punjab Cabinet Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has tested positive for the coronavirus, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said on Saturday evening.

"My Cabinet colleague and Cooperation & Jails Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has tested positive for #Covid19. I wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to him joining us at work soon," the chief minister said in his tweet.

Randhawa is the third minister of the Amarinder Singh-led government to have contracted the infection.

61 fresh COVID-19 cases in Andamans; tally rises to 2,808

Sixty-one more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, taking the Union territory's tally to 2,808 on Saturday, a health official said.

As many as 109 more people have been cured of the disease, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,853, he said.

The fresh infections have pushed the number of active cases in the islands to 923, the official said.

Odisha's COVID-19 tally rises to 75,537, death toll mounts to 399

Odisha's COVID-19 tally rose to 75,537 on Saturday with the detection of 2,819 fresh infections, while nine more fatalities pushed its coronavirus death toll to 399, a health official said.

Three fresh fatalities were registered in Cuttack, two in Sundargarh and one each in Bolangir, Ganjam, Malkangiri and Rayagada districts, he said.

The fresh COVID-19 cases were reported from 29 of the 30 districts of the state.

Toll in COVID-19 rises to 234 in Assam

The toll in Assam due to the pandemic rose to 234 with seven more succumbing to it, Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on

Saturday.

The seven deceased are from Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Cachar, Kamrup, Sonitpur and Kamrup Metropolitan districts, Sarma tweeted.

The persons affected included a 77-year-old from Kamrup Metropolitan district, which primarily consists of the Guwahati city.

The others are a 77-year-old and a 60-year old from Dibrugarh district the fourth one is a 46-year old man from Jorhat, Sarma said.
